      It says the brand is Kong-Gu (Xiaomi Eco-Chain). I haven't researched well but apparently the company is owned by Xiaomi but they're not the same.

  I'd never heard of this xiaomi non-subsidiary company thing….

  I am looking to invest in one that will last longer than the $10 ones I keep buying that fail at the first sign of wind.

    And the non subsidiary is just a way for other companies to produce products and use the xiaomi platform (they need to a hear to the quality and design philosophy). Almost like an app store.

  Interested to get some real life opinion from someone who has used one - is the auto closing something that would be really useful, say, getting into a car - or is it just a useless gimmick?

    I have the genuine one so i can speak about that rather than this build. materials are quite nice but it doesn't seem any stronger than any other folding umbrella. The auto-closing feature is great when you are trying to jump into the car quick, but the fact that it is water resistant is a bigger benefit. You close that thing and water beads off to where it's instantly dry enough to throw back in its sleeve.

    Note that i have owned 2 though. my first one was great until i leant it to a co-worker and didn't explain how it opens and closes and they physically pulled it open once the umbrella had auto-closed and destroyed the spring. Once you press to auto-close, you have to fold it down before you can auto-release it again
