I found myself looking for a laptop and bought one of these.
I think it's a decent deal for stock that's already in Australia- ideally I would have waited for one of the new ryzen 4000 powered laptops but I was informed by a supplier that they are now months away due to the pandemic.

i7 9750h
16 GB ram (note this is single channel only bit there is a spare slot, so i would suggest getting another stick of ram to enable dual channel)
2070 max q
512gb nvme
144hz 1080p screen.

  • Good price, bought an Aorus X5 with a GTX 1070, 16gb ram for around $3200 discounted 3 years ago.

Prices have come down a lot since then, you’re getting much better value now.

But agree on preference being for AMD Ryzen CPU’s.

same, 2 years ago I bought an Alienware 15 for ~$2.1k with i7-7k GTX 1070

thinking about selling it for around $1.5k to buy a desktop

that asking price sounds pretty optimistic

        • brand is Alienware, like Apple phones, i guess they don't lose their value that bad

          • @sticky8anana: Much like apple phones the value decreases exponentially with passing generations not with functionality.

      • I think you should drop to $1.2k or $1.3k.
1.5k for a 2 years old with that spec is a bit high.
But of course, it just my opinion.

      • Yeah if I had a do-over, I’d build a much better spec’d desktop for cheaper instead.

An AMD system is looking pretty good right now.

I’ll probably hang onto my one until it dies or hand it down to a relative.

If I sold mine, I’d lose a lot of money on the trade since my purchase price was very high to begin with, you’re in a much better position to sell.

The 1070 isn’t bad, still plays every game on max settings.

        • With DP and freesynch you can stretch the GPU further. I ran mine mostly with an external monitor, a little noisy, but capable at 2560x1080.

  • I have a bad feeling about this deal…

      A bad omen????

      • +1

Yeah i guess you could say that

  • Would be a deal at half the price.
Better to wait a few weeks for the new Ryzen 9 4000 options.

    • New products won't have any substantial discounts. It's basically saying "buy the old model at a discount or pay full price for a new model when out later".

3 months ago, I would give this a downvote. However, with this pandemic is lurking around, I gave this deal an upvote.
I am looking for a gaming laptop, but I will wait for another deal.
In the meantime, this is still a good option for those looking for a decent gaming laptop from a recognized brand.

  • I got an Omen from this deal:

Very happy with it, great build quality and excellent screen.

For reference, this Dell with similar specs (Same CPU/GPU) was $2070 a few weeks back
    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/New-Dell-G7-15-Gaming-Laptop-9th…

    • I ended up buying one of those Dell G7s during that deal. There must be some serious delays as it still hasn't arrived…

      • Strange. I ordered the G5 in that deal and received it in a few days. This was after it had gone out of stock and then came back in stock. Received it well before the stated delivery timeframe.
