    I'm a simple man. I see under $1800 for a GTX 1070-equipped laptop, I upvote. Then again, it's Acer :(

    • Cheers!

    • +3

Acer seem to have gotten better with age… 5-10 years ago I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole, but now they seem to improved their products and quality control.

      • -1

I can't begin to imagine what corners they cut in order to keep the price low. Every other OEM appears to slap $2400+ on their 1070-equipped notebooks.

        • +2

Not that you can trust RRPs, but this is $3000 and $2000 on EOFY sale currently, and the double discount from the ebay voucher brings it down to that price.
Static Ice indicates others are selling it around the $2400 mark..

      • Agreed, they had one of the first IPS HDMI 2.0 4K monitors available a few years ago and I've been fairly happy with it.

i bought one of these but gf just got me a predator 15. anyone want to buy the hp for 2k? its still sealed.

      • Might wanna put that up in the Classifieds section before your comment gets taken down.

    • +2

      Hey Droidyy,

I just pulled one of the many results that came up with the comparison, I can link other benchmarks too - is there a specific website you prefer?

      Let me know, thanks!

Literally just anything that isn't GPUBoss would suffice. That link above is a Firestrike, Dota2, Overwatch, DOOM, BF1, Tombraider, Witcher3, and Premiere Pro bench for a bunch of cards.

        • +2

Awesome link, thanks for referencing the timestamp too.

Will update post with the addition of this Vid comparison.

          Thanks again!

        • +3

          Updated and credited.

          Cheers!

      • For future posts, you could consider using UserBenchmark instead of GPUBoss. It should still be easy to search and find stuff, but the data will be more useful for people comparing actual performance (although it won't be as good as a "true" benchmark comparison like the video linked above/below).

        • +1

Hey MHLoppy - thanks for the feedback. Will definitely take UserBenchmark into consideration the next time we do a comparison on GPU's. Appreciate the suggestion.

    • What is wrong with GPU boss??

      • it makes comparisons based on the specsheet, such as comparing core counts and flops between architectures, which is not comparable.

it doesn't cite real world testing whatsoever, besides passmark and futuremark, which is often incorrect and generally a bad source of info.
comparing two GPUs on how they mine bitcoins in 2017 isn't a good benchmark, and can wildly variate from day to day.

  • +1

Upvoted for StaticIce comparisons. Please post more great deals here!

Cheers Joe888, tried to slightly lessen the homework for everyone - time is of the essence with fellow OzBargainers!

Will be posting more in due time, thanks for the feedback and stay tuned!

      • :) Would be good to get a gsync monitor into the mix for these beasts :)

  • Any deals on touch screen with min 256 gb ssd?

  • I just bought an MSI version of you guys 2 weeks ago :'( was a bit pricier, so this is a good bargain that's for sure.

  • OP I pulled the trigger on this and had trouble with "The seller has made changes to the item" then the cart was empty if I tried to look at it but from the product page it looked like it was in the cart. Anyway it finally went through, and there is a Paypal transaction (just one from what I can see). Can you help me confirm the order was successful.

    • +1

Hey syousef! I can confirm your order went through! Hope you enjoy the laptop, and congratulations!

      • Thanks!

  • +2

Some good deals there. The 17 inch could also double as a portable shelter you can sleep under, which is great bang for buck

    • +1

Haha, and also provides some warmth for these cold Winter nights!

    • I use to haul a Dell Inspiron 9300 then 9400 on the train every day and play Flight Simultator 2004 on it as well as practice R/C flying on Realflight back before everyone called anything remote controlled that flew a "drone". Plus a few other games - Dungeon Siege and MotoGP '07 come to mind. At around 3.6kg the Inspirons were not quite as heavy as this beast but heavy nonetheless. I did this for a few years. These days I drive to work most of the time and when I do go into the city and use the train, I don't bother a laptop. To be honest the effort of installing and maintaining software got to be more of a downer. I'm sure it didn't do my back any good either. But man did I have good times!

  • The eBay link is 6th generation CPU. That's probably why it's cheap. Not that it matters. But $2000+ should come with 7th generation CPU.

    • The 7th gen CPU of this laptop costs $3000. This is overpriced comparasion.

  • This is a good enough deal to make me kick myself. Bought a lower spec for more…I guess this was last year though.

  • The LCD in the 15" 1060 powered Helios 300 Predator gets some pretty bad reviews - dim and not the best colours.

Can anyone comment on the LCD quality in this 17" one?

What a beast for the price.

    • +1

I found a review for the laptop but unfortunately it is the version with the UltraHD screen.

At this price so long as it is usable for photo editing and gaming I'm not going to complain if it's not the best of the best. Still should outdo my current laptop which I don't trust at all for photo editing.

      • +1

An NZ 1080 review screen starts at ~5 minutes, doesn't say much other that a touch slow response at times, the rest seems fairly comprehensive so I would think he would have mentioned any screen issues.

        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1bSTGpLNV8o

      • That's actually really nice, even more so considering the UHD panel can be had for under $200 delivered from the first link I found.

        https://www.ebay.com.au/i/322261199456?chn=ps&dispItem=1

I'd be worried that the 1080p panel inside it will be sub par for most uses as has been the case when Acer puts in very good specs for prices designed to compete with Dell's Inspiron line. I'd want the panel to be better than just acceptable if I'm powering it via a 1070. I get nit (pardon the pun) picky about LCD quality on 'premium' laptops.

        • It'd be fine connected to a dell monitor u2414 right?

        • +1

          @tomkun01:

Better than fine, it will be ultrafine ;)

          /monitorpun

The 1070 is overkill for 1080p60hz. It wants 1440p or 100hz+. You won't really see a difference between a 1060 or 1070 with your monitor, or even between a 1050ti and 1070 in most cases. There is a case for future proofing, but with modern APIs like Vulkan and Direct X12 along with modern consoles using hardware much closer to PC architecture - that developers don't really have much of a need for more power in the near future (likely the lifecycle of the laptop). They can just use better tools to get a lot more out of the hardware, but of course this isn't a perfect world so not every game you will want to play in the next few years will be developed with efficient code in mind - it's just easier for devs to do so going forward.

If you get this laptop the next thing is to start saving for a screen that's better suited to a 1070 - this laptop is a real beast and your current monitor would be caging it a little.

        • @c0balt:
disagree, 1070 is not over kill for 1080, witcher 3, assassin's creed black flag, unity, dishonored 2, gta5, all of these games fail to run at the highest settings with steady 60 fps.dishonored 2 even consumed all 8G of 1070 (i even had a crash once, had to lower the settings)

  • +1

Oh one other thing I've learnt from my previous large screen laptops.

USE THIS TIP AT YOUR OWN RISK.

If you're not careful the keyboard imprints upon the screen. To prevent this I use a layer or two of cloth (a clean brand new poly-cotton pillowcase that isn't dyed with bad dye that rubs off works for me, so long as there are no seams pressed against the screen) plus the separator from the original packaging between the screen and keyboard when I put it away. You also have to be careful not to wedge it too far into the hinge…a gap of 1cm or so is good. I went from 2-3 generations of laptop which had imprints to no problems and have done this for other family members who also had no issues.

Obviously this wouldn't work if it was one of the older latching screens but I haven't seen a latch on a laptop screen for a while.

    • Great precaution syousef. I find that using a plain dust cloth, or soft microfibre screen cloth is also a great protector in between keyboard and screen.

      Cheers!

  • 1070 is great, but a 4kg laptop may as well be a tower. Sigh

    • +3

Not quite. The weight is a burden if you're walking around with it (though I've done that). But taking it to a mate's house or work in a car or if it's a short walk to public transport is not an issue really. Having a built in screen and keyboard means you don't have to lug other things around.

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Acer-Aspire-Switch-11-PRO-11-6-IP…

Hi if somebody can give me advice on this laptop. I don't know much about computers. Looking for a laptop around $500 . Thanks in advance .

  • Bought Lappy thanks do you offer local pick up for today?

    • Hi JustinOzBargain,

Sorry we don't offer any type of pickup/Click 'n' Collect on these eBay orders at this time. Due to the EOFY madness combined with the eBay deals, it's absolute mayhem; logistics wise.

We will definitely revisit this down the line when things have settled and work on a eBay pickup process. Stay tuned.

      Thanks!

      • No worries thanks for the reply

        • Not a problem, enjoy the laptop!

      • Well so much for "fast and free delivery". Australia Post strikes again.

Yesterday the tracking said it would be delivered today. Then around 1am I got an email that it will be tomorrow. So I arranged for someone to be home tomorrow. But they attempted delivery anyway and have now redirected to the Seven Hills Business Hub post office - nowhere near my home and I have to pick up tomorrow after 11am. To say this is a pain is an understatement. That post office is further from my house than two of your stores. At the very least, if there are no further hassles, that's my lunch time tomorrow gone not to mention the expense of getting there. And I still have to worry about whether or not it has been damaged.

        Please consider allowing pickup.

  • Would this be good for some CAD work? Looking for a laptop for a friend. No idea about this stuff.

    • Thanq,

Depends on the CAD program you're using and type of CAD work you're doing; but for the most part, the GTX1070 is definitely an above average GPU for CAD work. There are many threads online of users reporting on their CAD work with the 1070. Just keep in mind that it's mainly intended as a gaming GPU.

    • Decent screen, decent CPU, decent GPU, plenty of disk and RAM. I don't see why not.

      • Thanks all. I'll go back to the user to find out what program they are using. But looks promising from your response.

        • Not a problem, happy to help!

Let them know that the code expires at midnight though, if they want to take advantage of the deal.

          Thanks!

    • Beware if you're planning on using it for SolidWorks because it HATES Geforce cards compared to Quadro. Even a low end Quadro runs rings around my 1070 in SolidWorks

  • Tried to buy one, but getting a "A seller made some changes to an item listing."….what's going on??
Can't tell if its been purchased…paypal has this message, but stays in that screen rather than moving back to ebay…

    • +1

Hi randomchecker, the listing remains the same and hasn't been edited. Possibly the quantity changed during your check-out purchase? Other than that, can't think of any other reason why eBay would give you that message. Hope this helps! Did the purchase go through?

      • No sale went through - number in cart didn't change either.

Does the whole transaction need to go through now, or can it be set up for pay after delivery through PayPal?

        • That is very strange - it prompts you to pay after clicking buy it now, unless you added to cart; in which you'd have to complete the checkout to secure the deal.

Can you PM us with some further details? (Ebay User I.D, item you were purchasing etc), and we'll further investigate this on Monday.

          Thanks!

    • +1

      Try again.

I had the same. Went through on the 3rd try when I looked at the listing again.

Interestingly when that was happening I tried to re-add to my cart, only it didn't give me the option as the product listing said it was already in the cart.

I was thinking I had just missed out and they sold out and was about to give up but it did finally go through.

Though I have had issues with them from time to time, JW isn't a dodgy company. It's nice to see them competitive on price again, because they aren't usually nowadays.

      • Hi again syousef,

Thank you for the feedback - we appreciate it!

We have meven ore deals yet to come - will update the post very shortly!

        • Thanks Andre for the awesome EOFY deals 👍

        • *even more - was typing too fast!

          @JustinOzBargain:

Not a problem mate, glad you got one!

      • +2

Just an update - more deals have been added and outlined in bold above.

        Thanks!

  • can this be purchased through ebay and picked up from a store tomorrow?

    • Hi JoelyMoley,

Sorry we don't offer any type of pickup/Click 'n' Collect on these eBay orders at this time. Due to the EOFY madness combined with the eBay deals, it's absolute mayhem; logistics wise.

The demand is definitely there, so we will revisit this down the line when things have settled and work on a eBay pickup process. Stay tuned.

      Thanks!

      • That would be good.

I hope you guys are using a courier with signature and not Australia Post for these purchases.

I have to admit I am extremely nervous about delivery these days. I recently had a claim rejected by Ebay even though the seller had provided an invalid tracking number. The only reason the seller refunded in the end was because I was going to go through a chargeback process.

  • Rep, any better deal on this. Lowest OZ price is $1355 or so from Warehouse 1 before any coupon

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/ASUS-ZenBook-UX430UQ-GV047R-14-FH…

    • Regenade,

This particular model doesn't have any margin for us - but after relaying your question to my director; he's set a new price to close EOFY, and further express his support of the OzBargain community!

Talk about 'ask and you shall receive'…in this case anyway! Hah.

Price has been updated to $1400.00 (with free delivery), before code meaning $1200.00 Delivered w/ code.

      ASUS ZenBook UX430UQ-GV047R 14" FHD i5-7200U, 8GB, 256GB SSD, GeForce 940MX 2GB, Windows 10 Pro Laptop $1200.00 delivered
      - StaticIce Comparison

Grab one while you can, and Happy Bargaining!

      • Appreciate the deal but there are at least 5 other sellers include Shopping Express /Future selling it for $1395 on ebay

  • These guys have exceptional customer service..

    • +1

Thank you Charlie, we are doing our very best during this extremely busy and crazy time!

      Enjoy the screen :D

  • +2

Any further updates likely tonight? Posdibly a good gsync? .. pretty please ;)

    • +1

      Hey pw2002au,

Didn't manage to score any deals on any GSync monitors this time round… but definitely noted for the next deals which will come along.

      Stay tuned!

  • Hey, with the Acer Aspire S5-371-76WD, I just wanted to confirm that the keyboard is backlit? Other sources suggest it is, but I haven't found it on your listing anywhere.

    • +1

      MHLoppy,

Sorry for the belated reply :( You got me on this one - I'm sure it's backlit, will confirm on Monday.

Regarding the deal itself, I am confident eBay will have another deal up it's sleeve very shortly, in which we'll list this again (if you're still interested by then.)

      Thanks!

  • good run until eBay decided to make the code expire at a weird time 9.25pm

    • +1

      This!

We were just as surprised as you! Was wondering why the code didn't have an automatic expiry once we applied it to this post.

  • I'd love to get something similar (or better!) to this at a comparable price (Lenovo ThinkPad E570P Gaming 15.6" FHD Core i5-7300HQ 8GB 128GB SSD 2G-GTX1050Ti - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/316233)

What's the best you've got in and around this price tag, JWComp? PS: Cheers for being an active responder in this thread! The OzB community appreciates it.

    • Hey StToffee,

      Apologies for the belated reply!

Regarding the laptop; the closest deal we had to the Lenovo ThinkPad you linked was our Acer Predator G9-592-785K 15.6" FHD i7 16GB RAM SSD+HDD GTX970 Laptop, which we had listed at $1274.15. However, I've noted the deal you linked, and we'll see what we can do on the next upcoming deal. Stay tuned.

And not a problem regarding the responses. We tried to stay on top of the queries as much as we could today, in the midst of all the EOFY madness thrown in.. Appreciate your support!

  • Code expired just as I was getting ready to drop on a switch alpha. I already have one but my partner has commandeered it for his uni work. Such a great little laptop.

    • +1

      Hey froggym,

Damn - sorry to hear! That was one of the last deals we had posted too…

Not to worry, send me a PM when the next deal is live (won't be too long knowing eBay!), and i'll do my best to offer a great deal on the Alpha again.

      Thanks!

  • Was just about to pull the trigger on the g9-793 but the code is invalid. Dam to late I guess…

    • +1

      HitokiriDee,

Sorry you missed out.. as mentioned above, the sellers were not informed of a set expiry for this particular eBay code. Usually they advertise midnight expiry, or a set time - but for this one there was no mention of any expiry unfortunately.

Stay tuned though, I'm sure there will be some great deals in the next week or 2.. will definitely post back up when they're online again.

      Thanks for the interest.

      • Will keep my eye out then :) Thanks for keeping me in the loop

  • +2

Dang it. Why'd the code have to run out?

JWComp, any wiggle room for those of us that missed out?

    • L33Simpson,

We agree with you - it came to an abrupt end! I'm sure there's more up eBay's sleeve though - possibly in the next week or so.

PM me with what you were after, and we'll see what we can do!

      Thank you!

      • Check pm please
