Best places to spend remaining prepaid Mastercard balance

A few months ago, I received a prepaid Mastercard as a gift.
I used it a bunch of times, but now I'm down to the last few dollars on the card (<$5), and I'm not sure how/where to spend it.

I was hoping I could top up my Steam balance with a custom amount, and specify exactly how much is left on the card, so I don't leave a cent behind, but they only let you purchase pre-set amounts.

Does anyone have any suggestions for places where it's possible to specify an exact amount to charge a card, so I can extract the maximum value out of it?

    Coles

    • Yeah, I had that thought. It's a good suggestion, but it's in-store only, right?

Literally any shop that accepts Mastercard.

  • buy anything u want. if its over $5 just say "can i put some on this card" and tell them to type in $5 and pay the rest with cash or another card.

Okay, I have a few problems with this.
      1. They never gave me a pin for the card when I activated it, so I can't use it in store.
      2. It's not a simple number like $5. I'd feel like a doof asking a sale assistant "just chuck $3.37 on this card".
      3. I'm playing the isolation game i.e. not leaving the house at the moment.

But that's the OzBargain way…. I'd do it for 99 cents if I thought it was still on the card.
The alternative is to let the card expire as I am very sure Mastercard wont mind - and probably make a tidy sum from similar people who have the same attitude.

        1. I think those cards if you press credit and enter you can sign for it without the need for a pin
        2. Go through self serve
        3. Even with isolation, I don't understand how a grown adult doesn't need to leave the house at least once in a 2 week period.

Woolworths discounted gift cards through Cashrewards. Allows you to specify any amount you like.

It has to be over $4.75 balance on the MasterCard in order to buy a minimum $5 eGC.

  • Use it for "free" subscription services that require credit card details.

  • Lotto?

  • I usually use the last couple of dollars towards petrol when I’m low on cash or milk.

At Coles or Woolworths, split payment, use up the remaining amount in this card, and fund the rest from some other source.
