  • What's a good brand of AMP for a good price that isn't one of those chinese SMSL ones?

    • Price range? Need digital inputs such as optical and coax?

      • Yes optical and coax please. Maybe some Onkyo? Probably $500 ish?

        • If you can get away with no digital and coaxial then here is a nice and powerful amp for $389 worth checking out. https://www.rio.com.au/product/z240-stereo-amplifier-myryad/

          • @Nomoneynotalk: That plus topping d30 could be good. May need to wait for a deal on the topping or get one second hand.

Integrated with digital inputs tend to be higher than $500 new. Yamaha WXA-50 is different because it is priced higher but most places sell it for cheaper. There is always an option of looking second hand.

I would go for topping as a DAC but I wouldn't go for SMSL for an amp.

    • That amp is great…. Why are you looking to avoid it?

I think the "Chinese" statement is likely the reason.

        • Seemed a little like that.

It's highly regarded. Nice tiny form factor and it runs my LS50 on my desk more then loud enough…. Far more demanding then these.

I have run these off it too, no issues. Under $200…. What's to hate.

          • @scuderiarmani: Yeah I've got a mate that has the ad18, and has had zero issues with it. Definitely seems fine for a lower end decent amp.

    • Yamaha WXA-50

      • That's a good choice for lots (variety) of inputs, small size and reasonable performance, especially at $500.

    • +1

What's wrong with Chinese t amps? I'm running a pair of BW 683 off an SMSL ad18 and it's just as good as a Yamaha aventage. Don't kid yourself thinking an amp is magically gonna make it sound 10x better

    • Nothing wrong with SMSL.

  • Would an Audioengine N22 be sufficent to drive these?

    • On a desk I think it'd be more then adequate. A large room, looking to wake up the neighbours… Probably not.

  • last pic on amazon.. rear ported speakers mounted up on a wall…
yeah, that's not going to be the best solution.

    • shrug Q acoustics make wall mounts for my 2010i's and come with a foam bung to go in the rear hole…

  • Previous all time low of $486 is buried in this deal.

Is this price for a single or two KEF speakers?

    • +4

Unlike the floor standing ones, this is for a pair of speakers.

      • +1

I can't believe how long that argument went.

      • How did you work that out? Everything I can see says 'speaker' singular. Item weight seems like it should be for 2 speakers though I guess.

        I'm keen but I'm suspicious it's only for 1

        • +1

It's the same Amazon link for all the previous KEF deals and people did receive a pair. KEF doesn't package their consumer bookshelf speakers in singular units for the Australian market from what I've seen. Just try finding just a single Q150 unit being sold.

If you're afraid, can always spend $10 more and order from appliancesonline for $559 (could probably call to get them to match Amazon though at $549): https://www.appliancesonline.com.au/product/kef-sp3958aa-q15…

          • @Satirical: Thanks a lot for the info! Much appreciated.
