  • Hey OP, how does it compare to the stock amd prism r7 3700x included cooler?
    Thanks

    • The best comparison is an i7 9700 we had running a stress test kept its cool in the 70s

I hope this helps you evaluate if this will be better performance as we haven't tested it on an R7.

Brought this for my 3600 cpu, this just fit under the lid of my 4u server case. In my situation it was a vast improvement, since the airflow over the standard cooler was terrible

    • +3

I use this for my 3700x and it dropped about 6 degrees off the prism.

      • Is that under load or idle? Mine idles in mid 60s but won't go over mid 80s under stress

      • interesting because wrath prism has pretty decent reviews. I was under the impression it was as good if not better than many low end coolers.

      • +1

I should clarify if you guys are interested. I initially gained about 6 degrees over the Prism with the stock Gammax. Thereafter I added a Noctua 1700pwm (the blue light annoyed me and the stock fan isn't that quiet). I also improved the cooling in my case with some decent fans, 2 in and 2 out. Lastly I added a second fan (pull) to the Gammax. I didn't take much notice of initial idle temps (currently 37 - 42 as the day gets warmer), but in gaming I saw a huge impact, from the initial max of low to mid 80's, I now I peak at 70 (on a warm QLD day). IMO the Gammax is the best (cheap) tower cooler you can get.

  • Does this fit narrow LGA2011?

    • According to Deepcool's website, they say support Intel LGA20XX

This should mean it will also support LGA 2011

Seems crazy to me to shove a cheap cooler on a HEDT setup…

      • I've got old supermicro server motherboard just running file server and plex etc. Currently on passive cooler so just trying to update that but need something shorter than 155mm.
        Probably just got a noctua

    • Wouldn't suggest so unless it's specifically mentioned in the specs.

      • Yeah I assume not so won't risk it

  • How much is the shipping? Thanks

    • Hi Braday,

$7.5 through either Australia Post or Sendle

This is comparable to a Coolermaster Hyper 212X but a lot cheaper.

Have used these in the past, great coolers for the price.

    • Yep. Used this previously on i7 6700K and highest temp I ever got was 55 degrees under the most stressful 4K HEVC encoding. Usually around 50 under high load. Beat my friends custom water cooling setup by a couple degrees doing the same task. Can't say enough about this coolers performance for the price. Install was a little bit finicky but all ok in the end. Cost me $25 from Amazon delivered a few years back.

  • Semi-transparent fan with blue LED for a modder-vibe.

    For a circa 2008 "my-first-custom-PC" vibe.

    • +3

I hate how computers look nowadays. Check out my custom PC! It has a glass side panel and RGB everything just like every other computer posted in the last three years.

I sold a guy an old i7 2600 pc recently. Had a platinum power supply and a basic black case. He swapped the power supply for a $60 rgb one, put on a nasty RGB all in one cooler and fitted an RX 570 - all in a $250 RGB case. He sent me pics and I was like, dude, you could have a 2070 super in that thing for the money you just wasted.

      • It somewhat reminds me of people who would put giant spoilers and an obnoxious fart can exhaust on some battered old 90s Honda Civic like it would make it faster or something, haven't seen or heard one of those for a while so hopefully this stupid trend might die down a bit as well

      • Never said I didn't like the old, solid steel cases with a tonne of blue LEDs, sh*tloads of fans and grills aesthetic.

I'm not much of a fan of today's tempered glass-everything, RGB-adorned, lava lamp-looking cases either.
They just look like modern-day skyscrapers; incredibly ugly fusions of glass and metal with that utterly unimaginative "Scandinavian/IKEA" minimalism going on.

That's why I always liked Antec and Cooler Master cases, especially from the late 2000s/early 2010s; they tended to have the most interesting and functional designs. I still think the Cooler Master Cosmos I and II were some of the best cases ever.

I sold a guy an old i7 2600 pc recently.

I still have one of those in an old, sensible Cooler Master case with no side panel windows, no obnoxious lighting and a very practical interior and exterior I/O panel.

I can't get over the longevity of those Sandy Bridge builds with the classic 4.6Ghz CPU overclock. Probably the best value CPUs ever released at this point, and I doubt we'll see another CPU by Intel that represented such a generational leap in performance, had so much headroom and idiot-proof tolerances for OC'ing and stayed as relevant as they did for so long. I can still game on my old i7 2600K build to this day; all it's required to stay useful is an SSD and GPU upgrades as time went on but it's still incredibly responsive in day-to-day tasks to the point that I still don't see that much of a difference when using it compared to my much newer PCs. That CPU, along with the i5 2500K was truly one of the best computing buys of the last two decades.

  • Snowman Cooler FTW!

    • Even these have increased dramatically in price on eBay, but for people who haven't heard of the "Snowman", these are simply amazing. Within a degree or two of the gammaxx 400 and could be picked up for about $25 before this pandemic.

  • Would this fit in an In Win A1 Plus?

    • +1

      Hi OldGregg,

It will and give you a 5.5mm clearance between your case and the cooler according to Deepcool and Inwin's websites

      OP

  • Much prefer cooler master ma610p - dual fans and better RGB

    • +1

6 heatpipes, two fans, twice the price. Sure there's better coolers than this deal, but this is going to be a perfectly fine basic tower HSF for a cheap price.

  • Does it come with thermal paste?

    • +1

      Hi Josh,

      Comes with thermal paste.
