Wow could have confused this line up with one of Xbox's… Worst month ever for PS Plus.

    • +17

      That's, like, your opinion, man.

      • +4

        He is right.

        • +2

          He is correct.

      • 8 year olds, dude

    • +1

Well we did have the best month last month.

    • What xbox have

    • I agree with your opinion

  • +11

    Oh yeh! Love Cities Skylines

    • +1

Farming Simulator or Goat Simulator, which one is more fun?

      • Goat Simulator is good.. but Farming Simulator is better.
Who doesn't want to be a professional farmer?

      • +3

Goat simulator is fun for an hour max

    • +2

If I didn't have kids…. Ohh the Skylines I would construct

  • 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♂️🤦

    🤷‍♀️🤷‍♂️🤷

  • +5

Sorry but simulators and controllers don't mix.

    • +5

I completely disagree. Simulators are one of my favourite genres on PS4, and I enjoy playing them there even with a completely capable and far better pc. Sure, it's not as easy as on PC and you don't have access to mods, but damn it's nice just chilling in living room, work laptop to one side and just going from one to the other as needed.

Played and platinumed Cities Skylines, Surviving Mars, Tropico 5, Jurassic Park Evolution, Don't Starve and working on a few others like Two Point Hospital and Frostpunk. Its completely doable and enjoyable/works well, just need to not be completely against it from the get go. There's some annoying elite PC mentality that seems to stop people from being able to even try.

      • -3

Consoles may work for some people such as yourself, but for others it won't. On the other hand I've almost never heard anyone complain about using a mouse and keyboard to play a sim.

        • Talk to more people

  • It'd make these kind of games better if all the dlc's were added as well.

  • hahaha wow

  • +3

Honestly, if you don’t play online frequently then Plus and Live are a waste of cash. It’s hard to believe these games are considered ‘free’ when every platform except Xbox didn’t change for online until this gen. In sales, you could easily pickup 5 or 6 great games that you will actually play in a year for the cost of a yearly subscription, rather than having a perpetually growing back catalogue of mediocrity that you will mostly never touch. I love PlayStation exclusives, but GamePass is the subscription model consoles should be adopting; all first party and some 3rd party releases included with the sub from day 1, and a fantastic rotating back catalogue. If PlayStation and Nintendo did the same I’d have no hesitation signing up to all 3.

    • +3

I pay $49 a year, get at least 5 games I play nearly fully, and get a reliable multilayer network. Sounds like you don't like cost games?

      • +1

Great for you, but it’s quite the opposite. I do like cost games and since it takes years for decent games to arrive on these services they have already been purchased and played, where what you’re left with in the subscription is not worth the additional cost. Like I said, if you play a lot of multiplayer then you have no choice, you have to pay for the service anyway. That doesn’t mean that that’s a business model we should be celebrating. Plus $49 a year is far from the usual cost of the service. If you get a good deal then obviously the value of the service increases.

        • -3

Would you rather they charge over $1000 for the console?

          $49 is what ozb pays….

          • +2

@onlinepred: Again. GAMES subsidize the cost of the console, as they have for literally EVER. To say they need to charge for a subscription as well to make ends meet is not just bullshit, but double dipping bullshit at that.

Give the devs 100% of the profits then, don't take a cent off any game sold. If PS+ is what keeps Sony from charging over a grand for what was AT THE TIME OF RELEASE just a midrange PC in a lil box, then surely you can stop taking money from the game makers, right? Or wait, is that where the majority of your money comes from and PS+ is just an extra hand out for no work since you (profanity) don't even operate the god damn servers anyway? It is? You're just greedy shits? Okay, got it.

            • @TheDukeOfNukem: Games subsidise the cost of the console… What about the cloud to host these games… Or host the downloads… Zzz,,

              • @onlinepred: The cloud doesn't host anything, unless you're talking that Gaikai stuff, which since we don't actually get access to in Australia, I doubt.

The downloads run off the big ol' Sony computer. If they can't afford operate an online infrastructure, they shouldn't run an online infrastructure.

Considering that games RRP for 100, and Sony gets a nice big chunk of all that, even moreso on the digital sales, they are making an absolute killing just by having people release games on their service for me to buy. If Sony makes an online store, and Dev A puts a game up for 100 bucks and Sony takes 20 bucks from that sale of a game they paid nothing for, Sony is making money. Running their PlayStation store costs absolutely nothing compared to the sheer volume of sales they rake in from games they had no hand in. Sony is making truckloads every time a game is successful for doing NOTHING.

But no, you're right. I should pay them so they can keep their store open so I can give them more money. That totally makes sense.

                • +1

@TheDukeOfNukem: I don't think I paid more than $69 for a new game. How much of that goes to sony/devs?

                  • +1

@onlinepred: Well no shit, you're a moron to pay full RRP but I can't use special prices as an argument. I don't know the percentage, but a quick Google tells me last financial year PlayStation made $78.14 billion in game sales ALONE, so if you think they can't keep the lights on for a year with nearly 80 billion, you're nuts.

      • How do you pay $49?
I've seen man be 25% discount on Ozb

        • +1

The average is $55. I was lucky as there was a glitch a while back on the Playstation store where it applied a discount to the $55 price. So I bought 5 haha.

    • Games pass and subscription services are the cancer of gaming. I hope it fails and Sony don't cotton on to it.

      • -1

Think of it as a loan, if you would rather pay significantly more upfront for your console, or pay it over a period. I mean they could charge $1000 for the next PS5 and give you PS+ for free.

        • +2

Think of it as what it is. AN EXTRA.

The console costs what the console costs. As they always have. You're going to tell me PS+ subsidized the PS2 and made it more affordable too?

It is meant to be an optional extra, that's why it's called PLUS, not PlayStation Mandatory Subscription (please tell me someone laughed that I worked a PMS joke in there).

If I buy the next gen and play entirely offline. Well I'll be missing out on patches and shit, but I'll be paying the price they asked and that's how it goes. You do understand that they make money on every single game sold and that's whats ACTUALLY meant to subsidize the price of these consoles, right? I think they'd much rather I buy 10 full priced AAA games a year than spend a few bucks every month on this bullshit.

          • -1

@TheDukeOfNukem: I understand. They should increase cost of games, and remove cost of ps plus.

            • @onlinepred: No, considering AAA games are $100 RRP and they are already making way more than enough off the SALE OF GAMES MADE BY OTHER PEOPLE THAT THEY PAID NOTHING FOR, Sony are making a (profanity) killing for doing nothing other than keeping their store's lights on.

You really don't get it or are you taking the piss?

Sony's store MAKES MONEY off selling things, like all stores do. Sony's store makes a (profanity) tonne of money just by letting other people's shit go for sale. They could stop making games all together, just make a console and let other people put shit on the PSN and make an absolute killing still.

They don't NEED more money, they WANT more money, and people like you, thanking them for the privilege are not just why PS+ HAS dipped in quality, but you're why they think they can get away with making it mandatory.

Plus has been bullshit since they day it became mandatory to fully enjoy the game I just paid $100 for. If $100 isn't enough to make them happy, I'll stick with a (profanity) ColecoVision.

              • @TheDukeOfNukem: Why do you need to pay for plus to enjoy the game you just overpaid for?

                • @onlinepred: Because funnily enough games are more online than ever, many are online only. And if online's locked off, well…

                  • @TheDukeOfNukem: Oh right, I play single player games, no ps plus needed. I guess if you want the services up and running, you gotta pay for it :-D

                    • @onlinepred: Nope. Store still runs fine on Vita and PS3 at no cost. Online servers (aka multiplayer, aka the only "service" that really matters and is directly promoted in their writeups) are maintained by the people who make the games, NOT Sony.

If anything, you should send EA a cheque every time you play Battlefield online, because they deserve it more than Sony since they are the ones actually paying to keep your game up and going.

Oh, and PS, server maintenance is piss cheap in most cases, Tony Hawk American Wasteland on 360 from 2005, pretty sure it was a launch game but don't quote me, still has it's servers up because it's so insignificant in terms of cost.

                      • @TheDukeOfNukem: Ps3 on launch was $1100 in Australia.

                        • @onlinepred: Actually, we were meant to have the 20gb option as well for 829 but we got (profanity) on again. What we did get was the one and only 60gb option…which btw… was 999 RRP actually (https://www.crn.com.au/news/ps3-australian-launch-date-revea…)

Not that you even have half a point, since the PS3 was ridiculously expensive to make and cost a bunch more than the 360 which was also available, but the PS3 had basically a whole PS2 built into it too, when they got rid of that and scaled it back a bit, the price dropped to 499 (https://www.theaustralian.com.au/australian-it-old/sony-ps3-…) and PS Plus was still a couple years from being a thing yet.

                          Convinced yet orrrrr?

PS, since you mentioned buying games on special, it's worth noting too that consoles go on sale too, hint hint.

Edit: They halved the price in just over 2 years. Almost like they could get by with just a shitload of revenue from all the games they sell or something. Weird.

Further edit: How did the Wii and Wii U get away with launching for under 400 here with an online store and multiplayer and shit to boot, but no online subscription? Crazy stuff.

                          • +1

@TheDukeOfNukem: Wii u hardware was cheap as. It was a glorified old tabet rofl.

Good job you can keep playing your half price Ps3. Then you can be happy. Meanwhile I'm fine paying $399 for a new ps4 and $200 for 3 years of ps plus getting a whole library of games I enjoyed playing

                            • @onlinepred: Someone has no idea what a Wii U's rockin' then, though you having no idea isn't much of a surprise.

Good dodge on the dollar comment though, I mean, you brought it up twice, but it kinda looks like your argument is invalid so fair play to just drop it.

PS4 was 550 retail just so you know. And I thought you paid 55 a year, and bought 5 of them even though I'm pretty sure it caps at 3 years? Someone's all over the shop.

But yeah, enjoy your farm sim from 2018 man, sounds like you're really getting value.

                              • @TheDukeOfNukem: In still playing journey, uncharted 2,3,4, dirt really 2….Will add then to my library and play them when I can yay! Games I wouldn't buy, but I will try them.

              • +4

@TheDukeOfNukem: Why are you so angry, mate? If you don't like it, like you said, don't give em your money. No one is forcing you. Likewise, if others want to pay for a subscription to plus, then I don't see why they can't or shouldn't.

                • +1

@tebbybabes: "Why are you so angry, mate?"
I'm not. But this guy missing the point and thinking that Sony NEED to charge for an online service (despite themselves not actually paying for servers or anything for games, meaning they have LITERALLY constructed a pay wall and put it right between me and my game and when I give them money, I get nothing, they don't pay the server cost, I just get the privilege to play the game I just shelled out money for already), is hecka dumb dude.

"If you don't like it, like you said, don't give em your money"
Okay, so I guess I shouldn't ever buy any games with multiplayer in them since I'm not getting a full product then yeah?

                  "No one is forcing you"
Really? That's funny, because I went to buy the Uncharted 4 when it came out and despite being a predominantly single player franchise, it has a multiplayer mode and 5 multiplayer trophies, meaning I can't 100% it's list without paying more money. In effect, just being another way of saying I am not getting a full package when I pay a full price.

"Likewise, if others want to pay for a subscription to plus, then I don't see why they can't or shouldn't"
People can pay for whatever they want. But realistically, considering it's a made up cost made up by Sony for doing next to nothing, and it is actively siphoning content away from the already paying players, I have no reason to be happy about it and should be annoyed, as too should you and anyone else who pays for something that didn't just used to be free, but still should be free.

    • +2

I recently played Gravity Rush 2 (a game Sony made) to find the servers were shut down within 18 months of release, and they wanted to turn them off sooner until there was backlash.
I don't want to pay $60 a year to a company to fund servers when one of the few games I want servers for had them shut down so soon. And on top of that, the poor choices of games, price increase, and removal of Vita games has turned me off Plus. A subscription like Gamepass would be so much better.

      • +1

Gravity Rush hit close to home, I loved the first game on Vita and by the time I was ready to get around to the second I heard the servers were gone and supposedly there's an MP trophy or something (never looked tbh) which means I might not be able to plat it when I eventually get around to it and that's a bummer because I did the Vita one and the remake's plat and they were a blast. No grindy bullshit trophies, just fun and exploratory stuff, some of the time trials might have been a bit wonky but otherwise I remember nothing hard.

Don't forget PS3's removal too! But Vita also yeah, that sucks. I actually had about 70 games in my PSN wishlist from last year waiting on a sale and about 20 Vita games I really wanted are half priced in the new sale today so I am gonna blow the dust off my boy tonight! Hell, actually on the subject, Plus was so good in the day that the catalogue I'd built up was what pushed me into actually buying a Vita in early 2013. Uncharted, Gravity Rush, Wipeout, Katamari, all the PSP and PS1 games from Plus's early years, I had tonnes of shit right out the gate. Love my Vita.

    • +1

Totally agree with you. If it wasn't the pricing error I wouldn't even bother getting it for two years.

If you are a casual gamer and hardly have time on the console it's waste of money. When you got two kids full time job and family commitments it's not possible to enjoy or get value out of PS plus at all

  • +3

is this an out of season april fool's joke?

    • I see what you did there. Have an upvote.

    • Sony: Don't you guys don't play simulation games?

  • +7

I'm being srs, this is the best month in a while, will be downloading both.

    • -8

if srs = sarcastic aka donald trump

      • +9

I'm a simple man. I see someone mention anything political with no real reason or benefit, I downvote.

  • +7

Cool been wanting to try both of these games, Skylines is meant to be the successor to SimCity.

  • +7

Heck yes to skyline. Played dozens of hours in the PC, will gladly spin it up on the console as well.

Lol at some of the sooks above

  • -4

This is what I get for putting hope in PS+ for the first time in years.

Shit month as most of them are, but this is somehow even more disappointing than the usual trash.

    • Hey man. You can ride tractors and horses around a paddock. Tell me another game you can do that. Yeah, thought so…

      • +1

LEGO City level in LEGO Star Wars 2 from 2006. But with lightsabres and shit.

        • +1

Hmm.. alright, you can have that one

  • wow, what a month! Farm simulator and city skyline. Thank you for your generosity Sony, I must say I was slightly concerned with that leak of dark souls and dying light… who would have wanted those, am I right guys?

Sony doing what they do best, keeping us all happy.

on a side note, can't complain too much we've had some good games this year - need to balance it out with a steamy pile of garbage every now and then.

I'm still playing bloodborne from a few years back.. 2 trophies from platinum, yea it's legit taken me this long solo. I enjoy punishment.

  • +1

    Omg Yes!!!!! :D

  • -1

    This is next level bad.

  • +3

I don't get the hate for this month. Ok Farming Simulator might not before everybody, but Cities is basically Sim City and has great reviews.

    • Console players don't like computer games?
My cousin was mad at me when I convinced him to swap me his Mega drive for my amiga.
      Think it's like that

  • Thanks for this disappointment PS Plus for your May offering

Actually give me some time to play a rerun of FF7R in hard.

    • Why don't you just get another game?

  • the kids will love it… lol, they will play anything on the PS4. hahaha

  • Very disappointing, even more so that I saw this blog posted yesterday teasing us that the games would be Dark Souls Remastered and Dying Light :(
    https://screenrant.com/playstation-plus-free-games-may-2020-…

    • Was about to post the same thing. One of those 2 titles would be far more welcomed than the pair of these.

    • I believe dying light was already given, as I have it and never paid for it.

    • Nah I don't want Dark Souls played that game too much already.

  • Not yet available?

    • +2

It’s still 4th in America. Releases are based on US time so most likely this afternoon (times are never consistent to the hour)

      • Awesome. Thanks for this great info

  • I am looking at getting me a new Ps4 console. Quite expensive to buy?

    • Probably just due to Covid. Should drop back to normal prices once restrictions start easing.
