Still a great phone. I use this daily with a great battery life. Battery health after 1.5 years is still @ 89% with an average screen on time of 5 hours.

    • What size battery is it?

      • +1

The iPhone XR comes with a 2,942mAh battery

    • +1

My battery life is till 98% after 1 year use with regular using.

      • That sounds insane, do you use your phone very minimally or have some really strict charging procedure of 80-20% or something?

        • Nothing special, average screen time is about 3-4 hours a day. IOS has optimised battery charging function I would say that helps? I am using apple 29w fasting charge tho.

        • Mine's at 97% after a year with regular use.
I charge the phone at night. I think the phone works out it's own charge rate at night so you hit 100% over a longer period. Potentially that helps with battery life?

          • @dannyboi: Damn I’ve had my iPhone XS since December 2018 and now it’s 86%

      • Battery can last 1 year XD

  • +2

Just bought the new se last week :( dammit.

    • +4

I know this doesn't go for most of you here but I still prefer the 2020 SE over the XR even if they were the same price: you get a lighter/more compact phone with a better chip but as a trade-off you have a smaller screen and a smaller battery. If I could deal with the size of a XR, I'd much rather pay a little bit extra to get the 11 which is a much better phone overall.

      • The SE would have been so good with an edge to edge screen and a under screen finger print scanner. I wonder if Steven would have allowed this level of lack of innovating.

        • +2

Se is a budget phone they arent investing in innovation here

          • +3

@richmond12: It’s not innovating at all to add an in screen finger print and full screen panel. The most basic of phones have this now. $749 is not budget.

            • +2

@checkingthisout: Brands (especially Apple) would not typically introduce new technology into a budget phone. No iPhone has in-screen Touch ID so I didn't expect this to be added to this budget iPhone.

            • +2

@checkingthisout: Agree with you statement checkingthisout.

              "749 is not budget"

        • +3

No he wouldn't, but again he's dead

        • From what I read, there will be a 'small' edge-to-edge iPhone 12 with a 5.4" screen. Just picture a 11 Pro or XS (both 5.8") and take 1 cm off the screen, measured diagonally. That would make it a bit smaller than the current SE and potentially my dream phone! It would cost a fortune no doubt and won't come out until late this year so in the meantime, the 2020 SE will do it for me!

      • +1

Yeah the other thing to consider is Apple support phones for about 5 years, an SE gets you a full 5 year support, XR is would have 3 1/2 years left. So for those that like to hang onto phones for a long time the SE could be the better option.

        • Yeah and that’s what I’m hanging onto, since I upgraded from a SE to the SE 2020, I’m likely to again hold onto the phone for ages.

Just looks more dated than the XR. Still happy with it though.

      • How much more from XR to 11?

      • +1

Se battery life terrible according to reviews

        • Not "terrible", but only average. Battery life is comparable to that of the iPhone 8. It might have been okay a few years ago, but it's a step backwards compared to the XR and 11 and that's disappointing.

          • +2

@ak47wong: It's terrible if gaming or anything processor intensive since the A13 is gonna suck down all dem mAh like nothing. If just regular daily use apparently similar battery life to iPhone 8. That said, the 11 has like 30% more battery life for comparable use.

The battery is really the only thing holding me back from jumping over from my Pixel 2.

There are also mixed reports about the camera sensor

        • Refunded my SE yesterday after 13 days of use. Battery health was at 98%.
My iPhone 6 battery health is still at 100% (swapped battery 11 months ago for $15).
I found the SE and my 6 both got about 3:45H screen time of use.
          6 is still fine 🤪

      • -1

SE is value in the US market at $399 but in Asia and Australia I would look for deals on older model over it.

    • The SE has quite a decent pick of features that aren't on the XR so don't feel too bad champ. Newer chip, better HDR. Some trade offs but they are both on about equal ground.

    • +2

Why would u buy the SE.. its just a Iphone 7 with a better CPU

      • +1

Not everyone is down with the newer X/11 design and interface.

For myself - The concept of going from my iPhone 8 to something similar, but with the guts of a iPhone 11, is rather appealing.

      • Actually the SE 2020 is based on the iPhone 8

  • +7

Get the 11 by all means it’s a better phone. Apple needs to stop picking the SSD hill to die on. Xiaomi Has 256GB SSD in sub $400 phone.

  • +1

XR is still a great phone I bought it since launch and it works well

  • I don't get the initial pricing.
    $1199 for a 64GB iPhone 11 or $1199 for a 256 iPhone XR?

Sure there's storage difference, but wasn't the XR marketed as a "cheap alternative"?

    • +2

iPhone 11 is essentially a slightly newer version of the XR. Same as the 11 Pro is the newer version of the XS.

    • Iphone 11 is the cheap alternative to the 11-Pro - its just marketing/branding that makes it seems like its flagship model up really its not

  • would you guys prefer xr or xs? i can see vodafone has payment plan for the xs only $939

  • This or SE? Very close id say

    • +6

It depends, you want the latest and fastest chip and compact in size, SE. If you want a bigger real estate and longer battery life, XR.

      • +1

To be honest, most users won't notice any difference on speed. Unless you are editing 4k videos on SE with latest chip.

        • +2

You might not notice a difference today, but if you are planning to keep the phone for a few years, then yeah you’ll notice a big difference with the new iOS and app updates.

  • +2

Can you buy 9x $100 gift cards + $90 bonus so the phone would come down to $909? :)

    • +2

Coupon will be emailed within 7-10 working days of gift card purchase.
Limit of one $10 coupon per transaction.

So either way, by the time you get your coupon, this phone might be sold out or expired.

      • You are right hehe :)

    • +1

In the bonus deal post someone mentioned it was a bonus voucher not gift card so you can't use all 9 vouchers in 1 transaction

    • thats what i want to know as well!!

    • +1

Get Ultimate gift from Big W it is nearly 10% off.

  • I was about to buy mum an iPhone 11 for $1,279. Is the 11 worth the extra price?

    • +1

I just got my Mum a Samsung A20 for $179 seeing as she is a basic user. She loves it.

      • +12

I won't judge the amount of love by the price tags on the phones so let's just say you both are good sons or daughters.

      • +9

She was too kind to tell her son the truth.

I gave my mum a better phone than the one I use myself (a flagship Apple phone). You might think they are basic users, but the reality is that they certainly can take advantage of the latest and greatest. When I upgraded my family PC from HDD to SSD a few years ago, I thought my parents would be impressed, but they weren't - because they were already used to tablets with solid state storage. So, the reality was I let them suffered with a PC using HDD for a few years.

        • Agreed they are old not blind. My grandmother upgraded from a $200 huawei to an iphone 11 and it was night and day. She loved the ability to screen mirror her photos to an apple tv as well the camera alone was a huge difference.

          • @gottacatchemall:

Agreed they are old not blind

            iPhone XR & 11 - 828 x 1792 pixels, LCD IPS.
            Galaxy A20 - 720 x 1560 pixels, Super AMOLED.

            Not much difference.

            • @Arthur Dunger: There is a sufficient gap on the CPU and GPU side. Also, Samsung appears to cut a fair bit out. of A20. Much slower 4G modem (LTE Cat4 150/50Mbps - granted it is still faster than our lousy NBN), WiFi officially is up to 802.11n (no ac support according to the spec). Slightly cutdown on bluetooth (no aptX). Wouldn't surprise me if dual pixel phase detect auto focus is not there. Mono speaker.

A review also indicated a slight lag when unlocking the phone (when using the fingerprint reader or face unlock). It's relative I guess. If your grandma has not experienced fast phones before, she probably wouldn't notice. However, personally, I feel that non-tech savvy people are actually less forgiving when it comes to lack of performance or features.

      • Dont get you mum that.. shes have a bitch of a time trying to use it and just throw it back at in ur face

    • +1

      Yes. Thanks son!

    • Unless your mum is super Tech savy, then id say no - The main difference with the 11 is a slightly faster chip (so better future proofing) and a slightly better camera. Form factor, display etc are pretty similar.

    • If you are already spending this much money than yes it is worth it. Its 2 years a head of the XR.

      • Why 2 years ahead?

    • +2

Yes, now that SE is out, you should avoid iPhone XR and go at least iPhone 11. The added night mode photo support is useful. Also, the ability to capture multiple video streams concurrently is not something you can do with iPhone XR (or iPhone SE).

      • Thanks, yep I splashed on a green 11 cos the cameras compared to the XR and SE.

  • -1

My iPhone 11 pro max’s battery is at 97% capacity just after 6 months.
Probably revisit the idea of buying a super expensive phone.

    • +3

97% is pretty good after 6 months. To be honest, Apple tend to report a slightly better figure. Third party applications are not that optimistic. Apple really improved the battery on iPhone 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max this year.

Also, don't expect cheap phones to have equal quality batteries. I do have a cheap phone (a brand name starts with the letter X), the battery is shockingly bad that after 8 months, the phone turns itself off when the battery percentage is at 48%. Right now, in order to turn that phone on, I must connect it to a power source. Once it powered on, it shows 100%. Cheap phones cut corners on every aspect, they don't cut corners on everything except battery.

      • +5

100% right! cheap android type phones are cheap for a reason.. people trying to compare them to apple devices are just kidding themselves or just arent very smart people - while on Ozbargains we try to find deals, most-of the time the say is true - you tend to get what you pay for.

    • just checked, mine is at 97% as well - got it on release day so just over 7 months. I use my phone a ridiculous amount though…

    • +2

Whats wrong with that.. 97% is good - after 18 month itll be around 90% - expected

      • My phone battery goes down to 40% at noon. It’s only a 6S plus (also 18 months old) but battery health is at 89%. Why is the battery not lasting longer in the day?? :(

        • +1

Get a batt swap for around $70 and your 6S will be back in action.

Source: had the same problem with my 6S, batt replacement made it feel like a new phone again.

          • @hashtagbargain: I’ll try to hold out for as long as possible. I also cashed in my velocity frequent flyer points, so I’m sitting on a lot of JB gift cards at the moment. But agree - changing the battery will suit me just fine.

  • Still don't like the screen resolution being under FHD for a phone that costs a thousand dollars

    • +4

      be realistic, it from Apple.

    • +2

There are reasons why many buy Android phones. This is one of them.

  • +2

Just a reminder for those who got this - Don't forget to activate your free 1 year Apple TV subscription within 90 days of phone activation.

  • Looks like deal is expired

    • Blue has expired. Coral and yellow are avaiable

  • It seemed so straight forward to me - get the SE. I didn’t pre order and most places seem to be out of stock with 3 weeks wait for new stock.

Then saw this deal which threw a spanner in the works.

This morning I settled on SE 128gb over the XR…now thinking 64gb iPhone 11???

I currently have the iPhone 6 16gb. Basic browsing, messaging, email only with occasional YouTube video. I do take a lot of photos though so this is an important feature.

Having not had a new phone for 5+ years, the SE is already a major step up despite some reviews commenting on the small screen and poor night photos. However, I’m also tempted to maybe get the iPhone 11 considering I probably won’t be updating again for another 5 years or so. Any suggestions or advice please?

    • +1

Battery life seems to be the biggest downside of the new SE. Most of the reviews have been thrashing the battery life!

Would recommend the XR or the 11 if you want better battery life! especially if you are going to keep it for an other few years!

    • +1

If you're going to hold onto it for 5 years I'd be tempted to get the 11. The camera and battery life improvements are justifiable (not to mention the larger screen). The difference is $400 between both models you are looking at, which is an extra $80/year.

The only bummer with 11 is that I prefer touch id over face unlock

    • Just imagine your current phone on steroids: that's what you'll experience going from a 6 to a SE. Besides the colour options, the only main difference is that it's a fair bit heavier. Would you like a bigger screen? If yes, don't get it. If no, it will be a safe choice. I've been shooting some pics on mine this morning, the camera is great (coming from the old SE) and some say it shoots better photos than the XR.

      • A bigger screen would be nice but it’s not essential. I was watching a video yesterday where a guy compared shots between the SE, XR and 11 and all were very similar and he mentioned what you said about the pictures being slightly better on SE v XR

It’s between the 128gb SE or the 11 now. I keep changing my mind. Right now, leaning more towards the 11 as I’m keeping it for next few years + plan to take lots of pics and vids with it. The additional cost - while cringe worthy - will be justified over the long run.

        • Yeah the 11 will give you a few more years useful life over the SE, particularly if you don’t change your phone very often. Im not sure how relevant a <5 inch phone would be in 2.5 years time. Plus there’s rumors of a SE plus which would be a budget 5.5 inch phone.

I have the iPhone 6s Plus and my partner has the iPhone 6, definitely due for a change in the next year! I would prefer the iPhone 11 over the SE most definitely, and rather cough up the $400.

          • @Flowerbomb: Yes, if you’re used to the old gen Plus models, a 11 makes total sense. The SE is just a great phone for those who don’t want (or care for) a big screen, with the added bonus that it’s quite cheap for Apple standards.

  • +1

Why wouldn’t you get an xs max from the good guys? Currently on special and comes to $968 for the 256gb ($579 plus $390 early cancellation fee).
