I hope it can run cryis better than china can :)

      • yooooooooo, that's gold!

Man all these CPU deals meanwhile I'm waiting for a good sale on an RX 5700…

    • This looks to be the cheapest at the moment at $570, though the heating sounds like balls.

      https://www.newegg.com/global/au-en/msi-radeon-rx-5700-rx-57…?

      edit: also $566 @ Amazon

      • +1

But its got a plastic back plate to help trap all the heat in on those cold nights.. you dont want your graphics card to be too cold do you?

        • Jesus needed that last night

  • -1

Does seem very competitive historically, it's not the lowest ($773) but very close.

    • What you're looking at is the Amazon AU price. The one in the deal is fulfilled by Amazon US, and is cheaper.

correctomondo! case of the Mondays sir. Still a damn good deal with the current climate :D

All these CPU deals and all the good motherboards are either expensive or out of stock….

    • +1

I was shopping for x570 motherboards two weeks ago and there were loads around.

    • Try x470 and x370 boards mate, they're still great.

    • Yeah I want a good motherboard for the 16 core model, it's hard to find a good one.

  • Has anyone dealt with a warranty claim for these Amazon US to AU purchases?

    • +1

I had to warranty a hard drive that was DOA and it was normal post it back at there expense (except i had to drop it at storage place instead of aus post) took a bit of time to get money back though.

Might be harder after the first few months but how many CPUs go bad that are not DOA?

    • Returned a keyboard after a year. Postage was more expensive then a keyboard itself but no questions asked and all moneys refunded by Amazon.

Bought this CPU through amazon AU for $789 a couple of weeks ago. Very good upgrade over my 9700k, And once you tweak ram timings its on par with single core performance to a 9700k at 5ghz.

    • +1

Nice. Which workloads are you seeing the gains in? I thought it would be mostly a sidegrade for gaming.

FYI, your 9700k would have most likely seen some very decent gains from adjusted ram speed/timings: https://www.purepc.pl/pamieci_ram/test_pamieci_ddr4_2133_360…

      • For the gaming side i noticed better performance in call of duty MW, I couldn't even boot the game without it freezing/stuttering for a while on my 9700k (while in the menu).

I dont do much multithreaded workloads, But stuff like extracting zipped files, and compressing 4K movies is 3-4x faster on the 3900x from my testing.

I ran 3466 cl14 ram on the 9700k anything faster would have been minor gains. 3900x i'm running 3800mhz cl16.

        • Correct me if I'm wrong but you might get better performance if you drop to 3600mhz and tighten timings again with IF at 1800 unless you're lucky and can get your IF over 1800?

          • @sakurarar: I tried 3600 and 3800 cl16 with ram calc, Because my kit is dual rank 16x2 kit i cant hit cl14 or cl15 even unless i drop it to 3200mhz.

The difference in sub timings between 3600 and 3800mhz was bugger all, so i went for higher mhz, as i got higher scores benchmarking it. (my kit is samsung b-die btw). I may end up dropping back to 3600mhz cl16 because i had to bump the voltage to (1.42@3800mhz) vs (1.35@3600mhz) and really the performance difference tiny. rather have my ram run a bit cooler.

But yeah you are right, Lower frequency with tighter timings generally is better for ryzen. But most people would buy cheap kits of ram that dont overclock well with ryzen, and they lose out of a bunch of free performance.

  • The beauty about amd iteration (compared to GPU) is each new reduction in CPU creates a ceiling problem.

So a 12 core hyperthreaded is a absolute bargain, and a massive saving most AMD motherboards are backwards compatible that's huge.

Why? Well your certainly not missing out on anything unless you into non gaming, but still it's certainly good enough for most tasks.

I'd feel gutted and cheated if it was intel selling a 6 core, then 8 core, because that's what the did for over 10 years, filthy assholes

    • Hehehe.. love the passion at the end, I'd be ordering one if I knew what was happening with my job..!

  • How much can you OC these chips compared to intel?

    • Might be best to look at r/AMD

    • +1

won't be as far as intel could go. mine is going @4.35 all cores with a noctua A12. Hasn't pushed too far but I recon there's little room left.

    • 4.4ghz

  • Next gen AMD is out in 6 months

    • And likely work on the same mobo as you get for this… Sell n upgrade if needed which I highly doubt is needed for a good 3+years :)

    • The gen after is out in 20ish months.

      • 😂

      • +1

But what about the gen after that?! Gonna wait and see if prices drop even further then…

  • Thanks bought one. What mobos do people recommend? I was thinking one of the X570's but not sure which. Good experience w/ asus rog atm.

  • $735 now.

    • Just the price is tied to USD. AUD gets stronger so the price gets lower.

  • If you want to get one locally, it's $739 currently at Shopping Express - https://www.shoppingexpress.com.au/buy/amd-ryzen-9-3900x-3.8…

  • $735 sounds good to me, is there a coupon or cashback we need to apply to get it for this price? Showing as $750 for me and when I press on the "from $x new" thing to bring up the sellers list $750 is the cheapest there too.
