Fine - No Right Turn

Yes, Another one of these.

So this afternoon I stopped at a yellow light and braked really hard which cause a road rage incident with the motorcyclist behind me. He became aggressive shouting profanities and kept tapping on my window. So I wanted to get away from him, so I took a right turn at an intersection when he was slightly ahead of me and behold, it turns out to be a no right turn 3-7pm intersection.

The HWP officer pulled me over and issued me with a fine, I am on my P2 with 2 points, so this would end my licence. I am also on good behaviour bond regarding a speeding offence committed last year so ideally I do not wish to return to court in case that gets bought up.

How should I approach this?

Hope you don't injure or kill anyone next time you're in an accident that "obviously" isn't your fault either.

What if he had the wrong playlist going in the car whilst he checks his dashcam and an endangered bird species crosses his path?

  • Pay the fine duuh, and learn not to be a idiot in the near future, that guy or girl on the motorcycle is vulnerable and is easy to hit, be it front back left or side.

But it's just blatantly ignorant to contest your right when you clearly broke the road rules due to pressure. If the guy or girl attacked your vehicle then make sure to record them or attach devices for that.

But in the near future remember the roads are not a entitlement most forget everyday.

  • That motorcyclist could have been injured badly or even be killed by you. I don't think "keep tapping on your window" a road rage at all. In fact I wouldn't even call it a road rage had he kicked your window in.

Pay the fine and lose your licence. Learn how to drive safely for the others in the future.

P.S The real reason why you had to break hard on a yellow was because you would have been speeding again. This was whilst you were on probation for speeding last year.

    • to be fair, the motorcyclist has a personal obligation to be more vigilant than anybody else on the road. Also OP's car has a giant 'P' on the back, the cyclist should have shown more caution. However it sucks that this all happened. And it's good that nobody was injured.

  • Well I for one am glad you're finally off the road, for 6 months no less.

There's literally no way you argue that you were in the right and you're taking the piss if you think otherwise.

You're trying to argue that you were trying to get away from him so you made an illegal turn, it's not like your life was in danger and he was brandishing a knife and trying to break your glass and get at you.. You had a million opportunities to turn off into a side street but you chose the illegal intersection turn. You did this because you weren't paying attention to whether the turn was allowed or not literally minutes after you were not paying attention to the traffic lights that caused you to hard brake in the first place. You really do need to have your license taken away.

Now go and top up your Opal card.

Am I the only one hoping that the motorcyclist will make an appearance here?

I have a f30 320i M sport, absolutely love it, nothings gone wrong

This comment didn't age well, only from late January too.

Enjoy the time off the roads, not that you should be driving much anyway.

I don't think anyone should ever tailgate and especially at an intersection where a light is amber, you're just asking for trouble. Way better to assume the person in front is likely to stop / hit the brakes hard. Got to anticipate things like that.

Had some clown doing the same thing to me and I probably could've made the light but I knew it was a red light camera so I calmly applied the brakes and stopped while he (always blokes) zipped around me and got flashed by the camera.

Anyway, regarding the fine, OP should get familiar with public transport. If they caught ALL of your antics, you would have lost your license a long time ago, so I don't know think you can play the "unlucky" card.

especially dont tailgate behind a 'p' plater, i think that's what the 'P' is for isn't it?

  • Bad luck.

Not doubt many of here have broken car road rules but there just wasn't a cop during that time.

Move to a better neighbourhood I guess?

  • Which state are you in? Cause in NSW P holders cannot get good behaviour license.

    "Hi O.P
Don't listen to the others, they probably never seen a court room in their life. I went to court for a speeding over 30km/hr fine, I had 2 character references and completed a traffic offenders program before hand. I went to court waited 4 >hours for my case to be heard and when it was my turn with the judge he gave me a section 10 and I walked away with nothing, no fine, no demerits, no suspension. The court fees was $169 dollars which is a shit ton less than the $1000+ >fine I would have gotten if i took it on the chin. Contest it OP"

Consider it karma and take it on the chin…

  • Something doesn't make sense, to escape the biker you turn right where there may be opposing traffic instead of left which is your easiest way off the main road?

  • You took an illegal right hand turn to get away from the motorcycle that was ahead of you.

    Got it.
