Synology DS918+ 4 Bay NAS $662 Delivered @ Smarthomestoreau eBay

940
PBOLT15

Been waiting for another deal on the DS918+

Cheapest you can get it at the moment, and yes I know there is a new model coming out this year, however it appears that all it is is a CPU bump. Claiming 15% better performance (https://www.synology.com/zh-tw/products/DS920+#features).

I'm sure there will be comments but ensure the drives you get for your NAS are not SMR, good article on it here;
https://www.tomshardware.com/news/wd-fesses-up-some-red-hdds…

I'm going to use it with ultrastar drives (thanks to systema for posting that deal - now expired).

  • Thinking about replacing my HP N40 with one of these.
What drives are people putting in here? WD Red? Seagate Ironwolf?
Thinking I'll go either 6TB or 8TB drives.

  • Gah, missed it. Serves me right once again for thinking about things too much when eBay plus returns are free anyway.

  • New to NAS thing guys here.
On the price point I noticed this deal via eBay:

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/4-Bay-Synology-DS918-4GB-DiskSta…

    $759, with 10% code (PILLOW10) down to $683.10 and cashreward @ 5%
this will bring down to $648.94 + Free Delivery, on eBay site it suggests stock availability 10+

    Question here:
    1. is this a good price point for this DS918+ ?
    2. my requirement will be office onedrive backup, personal videos / pictures, TV shows / Movies
    3. want to use NA to stream movies on TV / Laptop / iPads, using for continuous recording from security camera
    4. share with close by friends / family who can access certain folders (i.e., movies / shows, etc)

Appreciate your inputs here your inputs here

As far as I'm aware cashrewards doesn't apply with discounts codes on eBay

      • I wasn't aware about that… do you know without cashreward, current price with 10% code on eBay @ $683.10 worth a price?

        • +1

I would love to tell you how good it is but auspost is holding my package at Melbourne DC… Historically though $683 is on the high side, depends how badly you want it now.
