An overlooked Star Wars RTS from Petroglyph (founded by ex-Westwood developers) that's basically like a Total War game in space.
Large "naval" battles with space fleets comprised of capital ships and parasite fighters and land-based battles planet-side with the all of the iconic ground-based vehicles from the series. You hop from planet to planet in a galactic conquest campaign much like you advance province to province in Total War, and manage resources from conquered planets, raise units, research tech upgrades and build defences. Attacking/defending planets and space stations works much like sieges do in Total War, with the difference being that in space the defender rallies around a space station which has stationary defenses; and on land, around bases with a variety of possible defensive structures and upgrades.
Quite enjoyable back in the day, especially the larger space fleet battles and the authentically Star Wars soundtrack and sound effects. I would think it still holds up quite well as there haven't been any Star Wars franchise RTS games since, to my knowledge.
