[Wrong Item] Dell - 146GB 15,000RPM Serial Attached SCSI Hard Drive $16.50 Delivered

Mod — Moved to forum as the order confirmation says HDD kit rather than the actual SAS drive itself. Keep in the forum to keep the discussion going (for those who have made the purchase).

Is this a hd mount kit? how do I delete this thing?

Hope you agree this is a deal, seems like it to me.
Sure they are not big but compared to normal disks they are a good price.

Would consider using two in raid 0 for my OS partition.

Remember these are SAS, they Wont? work with SATA controllers.

SATA 3 Gbit/s drives may be connected to SAS backplanes, but SAS drives may not be connected to SATA backplanes..

  • Its got to be a mistake - I have ordered one, but will be highly surprised if Dell honour this

  • The 3.5" one it displays as you might be interested is $371, I'm not even going to bother trying for this one…

  • Definitely they won't honor it even after a banking transaction:

"MISTAKES: While all efforts are made to check pricing and other errors, inadvertent errors do occur from time to time and Dell reserves the right to decline orders arising from such errors."

  • Well, I ordered and have just received order confirmation, but the confirmation shows 'Kit - HDD Bracket for 2.5-inch HDDs'

So seems the product type and description does not match the product

      Enjoy your new gadget :)

  • Yes same here, got order confirmation for the Hdd Bracket.

    • btw I ordered 5

      • +1

so why do you need so many hdd brackets for?

  • don't forget additional 7% off with moneybackco!

But as others have said, this is a pricing error, you've a snowballs chance in hell of getting one.

    • +1

Well apparently Frosty the snowman has a condo in hell.

Got my bracket today…….attached to a shiny new 146GB HDD.

      Thanks OP!!

  • how do I delete this bargain?

    • Maybe click on the report link.

  • I purchased 4 just in case :D

  • +4

You could simply change the title to "Dell HDD Backet for 2.5 Inch drivers… only $16 delivered… bargain!"
    :D

  • Ordered 2… order desc:
Dell - 146 GB 15,000 RPM Serial Attached SCSI Hard Drive for Dell PowerEdge R210 Server

Looks like it's the HDDs, not the brackets. We shall see!

  • this is my email and it doesn't say kit anywhere-
(how do I format this thing?)

Dell Order Acknowledgement - Internet Reference Number: AU0000-*******

    Order Details

Product Unit Price (ex GST) Quantity Price
Dell - 146 GB 15,000 RPM Serial Attached SCSI Hard Drive for Dell PowerEdge R210 Server $ 1 $
    Sub Total(s): $15.00
    GST: $1.50
    Total Price: $16.50

    • in you order confirmation will say Hdd Kit.

      • shite. just got the second email, an Order Confirmation, indeed it does say Kit.

  • If you click on What's in the box you get this:
    1 x Hard Drive
    4 x M3X.05X4.5MM Flat head Screw
    1 x M3 Flat head Screw

    • hmm thats an interesting development….
wonder why it said bracket in the others though?

      • Looks like what's on the website is different from the actual item linked to their inventory. For those saying brackets, they have actually ordered and received order confirmation saying mount brackets.

  • nearly ordered 10, then I saw the comment and give up
    great replies guys

  • +4

Id like to congratulate you all on buying HDD mounting kits

    • +2

yeah, buy who will be laughing when the rest of us need to mount our HDDs?

  • +2

In 2005 (or was it 04?) there was a stuff up on Dells website for 250gb HDD's, You can imagine in 2005 these HDD's were worth about $500 - $600 and they listed it at $8 each (i think, cant quite remember).

I ordered 5 of them and Dell honored the order, i still have these HDD's to this day running in a NAS with Raid 5.

  • these are definitely mount kits. I didnt have to "purchase" to wait and see. There is sales support that u can talk to! They confirmed this are mount kits. its so funny how some people think with logic with no room for error. ohh.. the frill of surprise for some.

  • Sh!t, I bought 3, will I get refund ? or I am screwed :(

    • might contain he Hard Drive

      Reason
-It has 146GB (mounts wouldn't have a capacity)
-Description says it contains a HD (http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/53545#comment-603723)

      • I think there is system error, maybe the product id is for the hdd bracket wif hdd image & description

      • If they honor it i will buy more lol

        • same here, but i didnt order at all, cuz i read the comment and stops me ordering 10
          lol

  • ordered 3, see how is goes, if it is the kit only, I will ask for refund, otherwise will keep HDDs
(also made screen dump on the selling page as proof that I was buying the HDD rather than the kits)

  • now no longer on their site
    Yep, seems like an error

  • For those who ordered, keep this image as a proof:

      • I think this is illegal since they already got your money.

        • +1

I highly doubt it is illegal. It will align to their account cycles which probably occur every two weeks, so you may get it earlier but at worst case two weeks.

Legally it will be something like 'a reasonable amount of time' and two weeks isn't going to be seen as unreasonable for a large company, even though it seems that way to individuals.

        • +3

What I mean is that since they got your money you and Dell finalised and agreed for a deal the "contract"!
This is Law, you guys don't need to neg unless you learn basic stuff first.

        • +3

Advertising a horse than send you a gold fish.

        • I'll play your card and tell them to give me my HDDs or I will sue them :P

        • +2

They have immediately offered a refund upon learning that your order was not as you expected it to be. That seems like a pretty reasonable response.

This is really not too dissimilar to a pricing error. Instead of the error being in the number holding the price, it was in the number identifying the product. The leap from one to the other really isn't very large.

It's clearly a mistake and while it can be a tad disappointing, it's difficult to see how someone can honestly believe they should have to honour it. A person made a mistake, just like people make mistakes all the time.

        • +1

@Domingo but this is a big faceless company! we should try to screw them as much as possible… bit of payback does the soul good!

        • Nope
I believe business's have this in their T&C about these situations

        • @wisc I have no issue with trying to screw the big companies, but this isn't the way to do it and we all know it. They've got away with stuff like this before and to be honest, they should, because it's one person's carelessness that caused it.

        • my comment was a bit /TIC/

      • I've been told this is a mistake by the marketing department.
After a bit of resistance they said marketing would be looking at some discount / compensation for the inconvenience.

Let's see what they've got to say. Otherwise a full refund is available.
        No great loss.

        • Do I have to email them for a refund ? or there could be a possibility of sending me HDDs :D

  • +1

Got my HDDs yesterday :D WINNING :p

    • +1

So is this a genuine bargain, or Dell honoring their mistake, or Dell having another mistake in their logistic department?

      Well done guys!
