  • 4k originally, holy cow

      Ryzenphobia

Yeah $4K was a prank right?

      • Dell does this all the time.

My work laptop was advertised as $6500 discounted to $3500 (like 40% off or whatever) ever since it was released in Jul 2019 - cost us $2500 enterprise pricing at work.

Scratch that, just checked. They are now saying $7,131 reduced to $3,851. As far as I know it has NEVER been sold at the before price (ie always on 40-50% "discount").

ACCC should prosecute them for it.

So 2 generations old…. Of course they'd be trying to clear it.

Awful value. For $4k it'd want a high end GPU.

Even by Dell standards, ignoring their great bq and support, this is absurd.

  • Still not top the last MacBook Pro deal…

  • I had one. got it for $500 dollars on some insane Dell outlet sale black Friday 2018

    sold it

design is nice, screen is amazing, but it just didn't feel right

    • maglev keyboard is not for everyone, you either love it or hate it. I didn't like it
    • ram is soldered so no upgrades possible
    • just 4 thunderbolt ports and that's it forget about USB
    • gets too warm even when idle - could be they fixed this in BIOS since then? switching to Cool profile in Dell Power manager helps though
    • smaller battery (compared to same generation normal xps 15) to make space for monster cooling system
    • 2+ kg not really suitable for 2-in-1 but YMMV
    • killer wifi is hit and miss, needs tinkering with
    • battery life isn't something to write home about

all in all it's a luxury toy with lots of drawbacks. looks cool on display, but in reality it's not a reliable companion

oh by the way battery swells on some units, covered by warranty but still something worth mentioning - Dell technician told me

also speakers suck. I had Dell replace mine twice but still they were rattling unpleasantly during video calls which was rather annoying

at this price? skip the damn thing

    • $4000 laptop for $500

      ya jokin

      • not really, can find you a thread about it from 2018. there were maybe 30 units of various models available for the whole Australia and they were gone in a matter of minutes

I was aiming for xps 13 there were 2 if those roughly the same price, but they were gone by the time I could place an order

I thought it was a price error but to my knowledge Dell honoured all orders

  • New update due out soon for the XPS-15. According to the leaked photos, they'll only have USB-C ports.

I think this is overpriced even after discount for a 2 gen old CPU.

    • +1

I concur. much nicer and more reliable laptops can be bought at this price
