        • If you want a phone that'll get Android 10 and regular security updates and all that jazz I wouldn't bother with this one. There'll probably be 6-12 months lag time waiting for Oppo and then Optus.

Having said that, the phone is good as is.

  • I wonder why Optus is not selling this phone on its website although it is advertised in a web-page before that but when it comes to buying online its not listed to select only reno z.

JB Hifi has dropped its price to match Harvey Norman https://www.jbhifi.com.au/collections/oppo-reno-5g

    • Wow maybe that's a good go. With some discount gift card to use.thanks

      • What would be the fastest gift card option?
It usually takes 24hrs to recieve them.

        • +1

Suncorp e-gift card deliver instant.jb is no stock anyway.

  • Why they charge a high shipping, 15 dollars?

    • Stock is delivered from the nearest store to your address. Shipping was $5.95 earlier. They are charging $15 now probably because it is shipped interstate. Try JB which is selling at the same price.

      • Thanks, but JB is out of stock and can’t delivery :(

  • Just received the phone today can someone help how do I enable or enroll in face unlock? I have a passcode and finger print set but face is greyed out, when I try to enrol face, all options are greyed out and I cannot do anything. EDIT: I got it working, I think i had to double tap at the top where it said enrol face.

    • Lol, bit confuse. I was wondering the same question

  • Has anyone been able to get Color OS 7 on the device? I've tried using a VPN (connecting to India) and setting language to Hindi (India).

    • That won't work. This is the Optus variant which means it'll need to be approved by Optus whenever they get round to it.
Probably sometime in 2021 if we're lucky.

Given there's reports of optus dumping Oppo stock (which I guess is why they're selling this for cheap) wouldn't surprise me if they didn't bother with updates in the future.

      • Since it shares the same firmware with the Telstra variant. They might be just preinstalled some Optus/Telstra app based on a retail version. Still have chance to get coloros 7 next month.

    • That won't work. Reason is in India, they do not have Reno 5g. They have the regular 4g Reno 10x zoom same as ours here.

      • Ah ok! I tried Russia as well to no avail. Let's hope that we get the update next month.

  • I noticed a fair bit of battery drain recently, then remembered someone on here mentioned the Google app taking up a lot of usage. So I checked Power Usage of Today and Google is listed at 70%and ~800mAh. I also recalled the other day I turned on the "Hey Google" and lock screen personal results.

After reading through the whirlpool result, and ozbargainer linked above I read this:

After getting into developer mode, I found this was the google assistant process listening for "Ok Google". Disabled it in the google app and denied mic permissions. Force stopped the process and it seems ok now.

Will turn off the lock screen personal results first, and then see power usage for tomorrow.

    • maybe it is the case.
i did factory reset, login my account, do not active "ok google", do not even touch the "GOOGLE" app. wifi/nfc/bluetooth/location/gmail sync/photo backup/off screen clock all on. no sim.haven't touch mic setting.
it's been 31 hours, battery drain is around 0.7%/hr, it think is fine.
more importantly, the GOOGLE app never show up, i had
bluetooth 60% (strange but only 7mAh)
      system launcher 23%
      google play services 5%
      gmail 4%
      wifi 2%
google text to speech engine 1%
      photos (oppo's) 0.7%
      weather service 0.5%

i am done with the test, i will start use this phone sometime next month, when the cos7 arrives hopefully. i am too lazy to re setup everything over again, since i prefer factory reset after a majot android update, start everything fresh.

this phone is not bad, the only thing i am concern is it can not play prime video at HD (1080p or 1.82GB/hr) at least on cos 6. in the video setting i can not find the option "use hardware acceleation" to enable HD streaming. looks like it is the app's problem, netflix could play at full hd.

  • I have been mostly setting my apps tonight, system launcher and google play both at 19% battery usage. I can play HD content on Prime well at-least it says so when playing the content i.e 4K UHD, but netflix does not show this information I assume it plays in HD.

    • You can play prime at HD?Very interesting. Even Uhd when streaming on the phone? Do you have that option "use hardware acceleration". And I assume you are on CPH1921AU_11_A.18 right? What's is your "BEST" quality data consume? HD is 1.82GB/hr. It only show 0.46GB/hr to me.

    • If you can get it work at 1.82GB/hr, I'd like to learn from you. I do not think 4k on mobile phone.

I've tested netflix (Full HD supported), Google Play movie (HD), Disney+(high quality up to 2GB/hr), youtube (1080p).
Only prime video best at 0.46GB/hr. The thing is I have prime as long term subscription.

      • Yes same firmware also same best data quality on Prime Video 0.46/hr. I was referring to I can play all videos in Prime, perhaps it not playing at full hd.

        • Ok, yes, if I have to watch at 480p I'd rather do not watch on this device.

          • @ce5himm: Makes sense the Netflix videos are more crisp and clear then Prime

Optus Variant has just received ColorOs7. 3.26Gb :)

    • YAY! This is completely unexpected after majority of people were saying it would be delayed because it is an Optus variant. Maybe this is just the normal release and Optus doesn't do that.

      • it is expected. and as we discussed before, for this phone does not matter Telstra or Optus.

        • Whirlpool user confirmed with a Telstra variant they received ColorOS 7 today as well.

          • @exc3113nce: yes
            i am telstra ver

so you are Big.Cruz on WP? lol
hope the google app battery drain will get better.

    • Thanks OP..updated.Good to be back at Android 10.

Agreed, I missed having dark mode. The notifications on AOD and also overall look have vastly improved

    • Fixed up a bug I had :)

And I just saw on youtube that the beta for Android 11 is out. I'm wondering if lineageOS will ever come out on these.
