  • Fuel Conserving Engine Oil ?????. Lol

I think 0-16 is too thin when it's at high temp.

    • yes, Agree. which means not good for highway and rapid accelerations ?

0W-16 is perfect for engines designed to run with 0W-16 oil.

      • Yeah nah, there are some hard limitations on fluid lubrication no matter how you design something. 0w-16 is bs oil that sacrifices engine protection for fuel economy.

This oil would pretty much suit a hybrid/phev that does a lot of short trips and barely any highway driving.

  • Fyshwick/Gunghalin/Warwick Farm all have 1 each from my quick search.

  • My owner's manual states this for the Prius-V
    0W-20, 5w-20, 5W-30, 10W-30
API grade SL "Energy Conserving", SM "Energy Conserving", SN "Resource Conserving" or ILSAC multigrade engine oil

I'm currently using Nulon 5W-30 full synth from Costco.

Is this 0W-16 OK to use?

    • I have a V too : D

since i dont do much Highway driving and drives like a nanny. Hopefully it wont break it.

Here's an interesting article on 0W-16
        https://www.noln.net/articles/2277-the-skinny-on-ow-16-oil
Think I'll give it a go.

        • Interesting read.
I've been using the same Nulon 5W-30 oil from Costco for my Prius V for a number of years. I fear 0W-16 might not give the engine enough protection, but not according to the article.
Work mate swears by Castrol Edge, I might wait for a special to try it.

    • The only thing that could really happen is that the oil breaks down before your 10-15k service is due (only real evidence of this will come about with an oil analysis) and/or your engine will use more oil than usual. Could be a little, could be a lot (compared to your usual viscosity).

    • I wouldn't. At temperature the engine is designed to run on 20 or 30 weight oil. This will be running thinner than what it was designed for, which means less lubrication and increased wear.

It would probably work fine, and the increased wear may never manifest while you own the car, but it's simply the wrong grade of oil for that car. Spend a few more dollars and just follow what the manufacturer recommends.

    • Check Nulon's recommended oils per vehicle here http://www.datateck.com.au/lube/NulonAus/

      • Thanks for the link. It says
0W-20, 5W-30 full synth, 5W-30 semi-synth in order of Best, Better, Good.

Perfect oil for winter, going to grab 1 if they have it

  • Which car currently on the market need a 0w16.

  • I'd only use this in my Tesla Model S :)
