Why would I spend $16.48 for 1 when I can get 2 for $2.99? And just replace them more frequently as they get carved up

    • I updated the listing to denote a 4-pack of mats rather than the 1. I wanted different colour coded mats for food safety reasons - avoid cross contamination between meat and vegetables for example.

I've never understood this idea of colour coded cutting boards outside of a commercial environment. Just wash with soap and water.

        • Plastics and timber are porous

            • @OzBragain: Simply washing the board doesn't necessarily clean them. You need to use a bleach solution and let them soak.

If you've had a piece of meat on it for ten mins, the juices, however small and for simplicity will leach to the centre of the board. When you wash that board, you only reach the surface and maybe one fifth of the distance to the centre since you have only scrubbed the surface. If you now use the board for veges you have introduced the risk if cross contamination….

Have been using wooden and plastic boards at home for decades. Never used bleach or any disinfectant, just wash with water and detergent and occasionally oil the wooden boards. None are meat/veg specific and haven't had a problem yet. This dangerous practice has worked fine for my family for generations, guess I'll keep rolling the dice.

  • Do people like these thin flexible cutting boards more than the thicker ones? I assume these are harder to carry food to pans etc on as they bend when picked up?

    • +2

      I like the thick ones.

        What about cutting boards?

        • Yes thick boards too.
