For that price, only 8GB is insulting.

People who consider to purchase might want to read this first.

    • Surface Laptop 3 screens were cracking at random and will offer free repairs to devices under warranty.

Well that's a neat excuse for anyone who drops one of these.. "One moment I was holding it and the next thing I know, the screen's cracked!"

  • For the price, I prefer macbook

Mbp starts at 2k for the same screen size and no touchscreen ?

      • +1

No point including a touchscreen if the OS doesn't support it

According to that description, is there only one USB port?

    • and no HDMI

      • +1

There is one USB-A port and one USB-C port

HDMI on most new laptops has been phased out. USB-C can do it all.

    • I have a variant of this laptop (i7, 16GB, 256GB). It has 1 USB-A port, 1 USB-C port, 1 headphone jack and 1 charging point (proprietary magnetic charger). No HDMI port unfortunately. I had to get a USB-C hub, which can usually be had for $30-$50

This is only 15% discount. It has been 20% discount before.

Been pretty disappointed with my surface laptop 3 tbh

    • +1

Is is just me or do all surface Laptop 3s have average ish batterys. I get like 5 to 6 hours from 100% with light to moderate use.

Considering picking one up but wanted to know why you’re disappointed

I have issues with it not waking from sleep, which is a common issue. The power button is a soft button that doesn't respond sometimes rather than a switch.

Sometimes doesn't power by USB C.

I have the surface dock, which doesn't have USB C ports. For an expensive accessory it's kinda lacking.

You cannot set the power option in windows to performance without regedit.

It generally lacks performance over other ultra books at this price.

I bought this mainly for work, so for keyboard and screen size it's good. Anything else it's kinda meh.

I've got the same issue.. especially on Monday mornings!!

I also have a variant of this laptop (i7, 16GB, 256GB) and have been really happy with it. Great build and super fast.

  • 16GB all the way. I thought that I could so some hobby 4K video edits with my 8GB Surface Book, yeah nah.

But I just cannot justify to pay premium+ for a 16GB model :P Better to stick with 1080p.

      Considered using proxy videos?

      • Hey! This is interesting, thank you! Had no idea it could be done this way :)

For anyone who has a UNIDAYS account there is always a 15% off surface devices option. Thats how I got my Surface laptop 3.

Anyone considering buying this laptop: overall it is a great machine, light, aesthetic, FAST, great keyboard and trackpad.

HOWEVER, the battery is imo poor. Microsoft claims this laptop gets 11.5 hours with typical usage (whatever that means) but with actual usage I personally get around 4-6 hours however I've seen people who get 3-4 hours.

Also like KV85 said theres this https://www.forbes.com/sites/ewanspence/2020/05/11/microsoft…

    • I had pretty much the same experience with my Surface Pro 4. I loved it but the battery life was probably 4 to 5 hours, which just wasn't enough. I actually replaced it with a Surface Book and the battery on that thing has been fantastic.

    ram is soldered
in fact the only thing serviceable is an odd format m.2 SSD (2230)

    upgrading not possible

in my books that's a lot to ask for a thing I can't upgrade or easily repair.

  • Poor Linux support🤔

  • Thoughts on the i7 version with 16GB ram for $2251?
    https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/microsoft-surface-laptop-3-13…

seems not bad + cashrewards. Wonder if any wiggle room for paying in cash/bartering at GGs?

  • None available in-store for me it seems. Might see if I can get JB HiFi to match as I don't wanna wait!

  • If you don't mind the colour or not being Alcantara the Black version is $1599 from JB Hifi
