Would You Recommend This Kogan TV (Series 9, XU9210)

Hey guys.

I was looking at getting a TV for my bedroom for standard viewing and streaming games from my nvidia shield. I was having a look for a TV around the ~$500 price mark and saw this Kogan TV. https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/kogan-50-smart-hdr-4k-uhd-led-t…

I did some research and I believe this seems OK value? Dolby Vision HDR, decent contrast ratio, 60hz, 8ms response time, (though not sure about nits for this).

There was also an alternative https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/kogan-43-smart-hdr-4k-led-tv-an…, but for the price difference, i only saw a slight reduction in response time (6.5), reduced inches, and improvement in audio (but I will use my soundbar for audio).

Do you think either of these are good value and decent for my needs, or are there better alternatives out there for the price (I originally ordered the TCL P8M, but i cancelled due to waiting over 3 weeks for delivery without Bing Lee able to give me an estimated delivery time).

Thanks!

  • Have a look at this Philips TV which is a special buy at Aldi this Saturday: https://www.aldi.com.au/en/special-buys/special-buys-sat-16-…

Same features and $100 cheaper than Kogan's. So it is pretty good value for money for a branded TV for the bedroom and if you don't like it you have Aldi's no questions asked 14 day refund policy.

On the other hand Kogan's support is a completely different story! For whatever reason if the TV develops a fault then you are most likely wishing you didn't buy from Kogan as their support is virtually non-existent. Lots of horror stories reported here and elsewhere.

    • Thanks for that! That was actually also a TV i was looking into. It is this model: Philips 50PUT6103/79 | https://www.philips.com.au/c-p/50PUT6103_79/6000-series-4k-u…

But it doesnt seem to list response time and the OS is pretty crap (not that it matters as Im using a NVIDIA shield). But worth a look!

Unless the primary purpose of this TV is fast action gaming and/or sports I would not really worry much about refresh rate of a bedroom TV. Each to their own though.

      • I have the 58 inch version of this TV and very happy with it. Picture quality, black levels are all good but like you said, the OS is a bit slow. That's literally my only gripe with it.

Sweet! Sold on this, and it's so cheap :)

          • @ramrod1234x: The only other thing is it's not true HDR. But then again, neither is the Kogan (which also is definitely NOT Dolby Vision), so not really an important factor. Enjoy!

Same problem with anyone who sells mass chinabranded junk. It might still work reliably 95% of the time, but the 5% is incredibly painful.

  • Kogan brand sucks, better off going on ebay

  • Would You Recommend This Kogan !@#$%^&*()

Yes I would, to people I do not like.

  • I asked a similar question recently. The response was clear.

  • I bought the 65" model. It's really not too bad. I was expecting it to be a lot worse than it is but the blacks are decent, no backlight bleeding, the OS isn't as good as my nvidia shield but it's not much worse either. If you're just after a basic no frills tv, they're good.
