Virgin Restarts Redemption Flights from September 1st

So it seems all is not lost when it comes to Virgin Points, although taking this announcement with a grain of salt given they are still in administration…

LOL, good way to lower the accrued debt of the points, by letting them redeem them for flights that may not fly or may not be honoured by the new owners.

You get the full amount refunded if it's cancelled, and you can change the redemption for free before 1 September…

      Seems pretty low-risk.

      • Well that's pretty decent. Probably worth it before a possible devaluation of points on flights.

  • Virgin Australia domestic Reward Seat and Any Seat bookings have re-opened for travel from 1 September 2020 to a limited number of redemption destinations.

We’re hoping that travel restrictions and State and Territory border lockdowns will have eased by September. A list of redemption destinations we’re initially making available is on our website and we’ll update that list as it changes.

If you book a Virgin Australia Reward Seat or Any Seat before 1 September 2020 for travel after this time:

Fees will be waived for any changes or cancellations you make until 1 September 2020; and
If you or Virgin Australia cancel your flight before 1 September 2020, we’ll refund your Points/cash in full to the original form of payment (except for any booking or credit card fees).
While redemptions were paused, your Points remained in your account and we extended the expiration period, so your Points haven’t expired. Now that the pause on domestic redemptions has been lifted, we’ll revert to our standard terms and conditions on expiry¹. Please refer to our website to find out more about expiry.

Virgin Australia continues to operate through its period of voluntary administration. The safety of all guests and crew continues to remain paramount to Virgin Australia and they have implemented additional cleaning and hygiene measures including social seat distancing onboard. At this stage, it is expected that the administration process will be finalised by, at the latest, mid-August 2020, although that date may change. Please refer to the Virgin Australia website for further information about the administration process and the airline’s health and safety processes.

Other redemption opportunities aren’t available for the time being, but we’ll update you as that changes. You can continue to earn Velocity Points with our partners. Further information about the Velocity program, Points and domestic redemption bookings is available on our website.

    Kind regards,

    The Velocity Frequent Flyer Team.

  • Wonder if they'll devalue the points…

That title is a complete hash of the English language and bears no resemblance to the Virgin announcement.
