If you're polishing off a bottle of rum by yourself on a weekday night, you really should see someone.

      • preferably a doctor, because that's how you get alcohol poisoning!

        • +1

From one bottle? Depends on a person.

      • While I agree with you, in this climate, it’s not that easy. Believe me, I know.

      • +1

these days weekday, weekend, it all feels the same.

      • a hooker …… might as well finish the evening in style after $90 rum.

      • Probably "sees" a wide selection after polishing off a bottle.

    • +1

centelink and jobkeeper …..bad combination during lock down and dan murphy selling booze …….

Some people actually drink quality alcohol for reasons other than getting your drank-on

Or free when a mate gives it to you as a gift. What's your point in relation to this bargain?

      $10 in Venezuela

      • really? Im gonna go there claim Tronald's bounty and buy me some ron zacapas.

When I was flying to Belize I thought "quality rum for cheap, yay". Soon as I got there and saw how willing to rip off a tourist some people are, I stuck to the cheapo rum. That was the only way I knew that I was getting what I ordered at the bar. If you know what Zacapa tastes like AND can find it there, or can buy from a reputable shop, that's different.

      • I highly doubt that, considering it's from Guatemala and you hardly can find any premium stuff in Venezuela.

    • Excellent rum, and this is the sweet spot. The XO is lovely too but hard to justify the $ over this, especially at this price.

Just bought 2 bottles the other week after trying my first bottle of expensive rum and was recommended this. Smooth and sweet AF! Very very slight burn .. no handovers the next day ( finished 1/3 a bottle in 2 hours) FYI bought it from Nicks for very much the same price. Delivery was free for 150 spend.

People are a bit fired up in the comments tonight.

Great rum. I've had a lot, most are not worth the price because Zacapa beats them hands down

    • Had you had a lot when you worked out your math?

  • +5

personally, i think this beats the zacapa hands down:

    https://www.danmurphys.com.au/product/DM_873431/diplom-tico-…

obviously each to their own, but i have the zacapa centenario which is the higher end zacapa, and the diplomatico beats that too imho. friends and colleagues i have intro'd it too think the same.

    and its on special too!

    • I brought that recently just cause it looked cool and I love it!

    • +1

I tried both. I like ron zacapa 23 a little better than diplomatico. However I have not had them one after the other to compare so i might change my mind.

I was in Andorra and walked pass a supermarket. Sign "Diplomatico 25 euro". I walked passed. 10 metres later. it clicked in my brains. 25 euro = less than AUD$50 (at that time). I double back and bought 1 bottle which 4 of us finished that night. a few days later I went and got 2 more bottles.

      • +1

Have had Diplomatico and it's outstanding. Disappointed to hear this doesn't compare because Diplomatico is so bloody expensive.
Was in Andorra in February and the prices there ruined me for life. €24.99 a bottle for Reserva. That's about $600 Australian pesos.

        • +1

He says it doesnt compare, I say they are comparable. Buy one and you can be the tiebreaker

        • +1

Just tried plantation and it was pretty good too. Not as sweet as the zacapa but smooth and easy to skull!

    • +2

Thanks mate I grabbed one of each to check it out.

      • +3

I like the way you roll. report back with your conclusion please.

        • I had a few glasses of Ron Zacapa on ice last night and it is super smooth. Will try the diplomatico on Friday night.

    • diplomatic at killer price , will need to get some …..

      • What price is it normally?
I can't find what I paid for it.
I'm pretty sure it wasn't on special

        • I've normally paid around $90 for a bottle of Reserva Exclusiva. Maybe once in the $80s with an eBay or cashback voucher.

  • ahh thought 23yo rum for <$100 would be immense value. but it's a solera so not really like a 23yo single malt.

    • Have you tried this Ron Zacapa?

  • I would recommend Ron Millonario ( https://www.danmurphys.com.au/product/DM_775789/ron-millonar… )
over this one. Ron Millonario is a bit too sweet to my taste, but always enjoyable. This Ron Zacapa is rough and overpriced IMO.

    • I can't stand the millionaro.

  • Enjoyed on the rocks w some orange peel …

Probably price matching these guys link

  • Does Australia produce a decent rum? (Not looking for fighting juice).

    • No.

It's all personal taste. I don't rate Australia as a rum maker but lots of Aussies love them a Bundy!

Mount gay eclipse or black Barrel are nice regular drinks (as they're a lot cheaper than this one!) But some people don't like that/prefer Appleton's etc.

      Best to try them all!

      • +1

Fair enough. I'm a fan of Flor De Cana for something that can be found around the mid level to cheaper end, especially duty free.

        • That looks pretty good. Just checked Uncle Dan's and the Mount Gay black Barrel is only $2 more than the regular at sub $55 so might pick one of those up via shopback!

You can keep your end of isolation! I'm happy to stay in with one of these and the dogs!

    Nice rum, recommended.

I bought a 1L bottle in Japan for $60, was chuffed.
