  • Last 2 months statements? Who has be flying last 2 months?

    • +2

Of course, but it's to show the status level of the passenger.

  • +3

*** This offer is applicable to top tier members of Emirates, Etihad, Singapore Airlines, South African Airways, Turkish Airlines, and Virgin Australia.

  • no Qantas :(

    • +3

      you're already OW

  • -1

I am a Platinum frequent flyer of Qantas, which is a One World member. So why I need to join Qatar? It is not a real status match, but just a discount to get the status in the club. You still have to fly Qatar and earn the Qpoint. Am I correct?

    • Yes, you only get their points when you fly with them. You can also use the points to purchase other flights through one world.

    • Qantas are not included

    • +9

I am a Platinum frequent flyer of Qantas, which is a One World member. So why I need to join Qatar?

Probably why they're not offering it to you?

  • Smart timing to try to capitalise on the insecurities associated with flying airlines that might not be around in the next year or two. That being said - it might be tough for many to actually be able to meet the flights taken to match….better then nothing I guess

  • +1

They are matching Virgin Australia!!?? WOW.

    • Trying to feed off the uncertainty around their voluntary administration

    • +2

All of the airlines mentioned are in some sort of financial trouble, not just Virgin Australia.

  • how long is the complimentary period? Bit hard to even meet the challenge points amount when theres no flying in the foreseeable future.

  • Sorry, but this post makes it seem like they'll give it to you if you don't have any miles/points with them.
That does not seem to be the case at all, you still need half the Qatar miles/points to get the status that you would have required previously.

    • It's for new peeps.

Because below where you post, they also have the following which suggests it's very new person specific:

"Request your Qatar Airways Privilege Club status match in two easy steps.

      1. Join Qatar Airways Privilege Club by visiting qmiles.com"

      Reading further, this is correct:
"Earn the required Qpoints based on the above table during your complimentary period to keep your Privilege Club tier status for another 12 months."

  • +2

The wording could be better but it is basically 12 months status match and if you happen to fly with them during that 12 month period and get enough Qatar status credits, you can get ANOTHER 12 months as well.

I'm Virgin Platinum right now and I'm going to apply as late as possible (if there is an expiry date) as I do not see myself being able to fly outside the country safely (on Qatar routes) until towards the end of the year.

This compliments well with the Qatar Free Flights for Frontline Health Care Professionals deal as well which FINISHES TODAY 18 May 2020.

    • -3

yep, this is called a status challenge in travel industry, status match is if they give it to you no conditions asked, misleading and I am sure qatar air knows this word difference well :(

      • +3

Yes but you get 12 months free matching and then ANOTHER 12 months if you do the flights which is better then just a normal Status Match. It's the best of both worlds from what I can see.

    • +2

      ** Campaign Period: 14 May 2020 – 20 May 2020.

Also I wouldn't worry about the O/S component. If you decide to fly domestic with Qantas, you can use this status match in their lounges.

      • +2

You are 100% correct! Good pick up as I will probably have to fly Qantas while Virgin gets their VA (Voluntary Administration :-) ) act together.

      • To clarify, you need to email Qatar by 6.59am on Thursday, AEST to get into the deal.

    • How are you able to provide the last two months of travel when all airports were closed then.

      • I just did a screenshot of all my activity (from Velocity app) back until October 2019, used an iOS app called Stitch to put them all together and send that picture to them.

    • Don’t wait, apply today.

  • -7

This is not a status match, it is a STATUS CHALLENGE - i.e. you are required to do some stuff (that is get half of the normal points needed !! :(

    • +5

      Incorrect.

You get it for 12 months.

      Then

** Earn the required points based on the above table during your complimentary period to keep your Privilege Club tier status for another 12 months.

      • -6

if you open the link and look at the table it says: "Qpoints required for the Status Match campaign"… so you need the point to get it, just you need half of them compare to normal times :)

        • +2

It’s a status match. A status challenge would be if they didn’t give you the status during the challenge period or if they only gave you the status for 90 days.

          Here you get two benefits:

          1) You are status matched for 12 months
          2) You only need half the Qpoints to requalify for the next period

Unfortunately moot for me as I don’t have status with any of those airlines

        • +2

It's a status match. You get 12 months status and if you want to keep it for another 12 months then you need a certain amount of SC.

  • +1

Thanks OP. I'm Platinum with VA but before this whole virus I started flying CX via HK a lot too. Might try use this to get access to the CX First lounges while also building up my CX status. Once this virus is over that is.

    • It says you can only access the First Class lounge unless you are holding a premium ticket.

      • QR Platinum is equivalent to OneWorld Emerald. This means on a OneWorld ticket I could access to CX First Lounges in HK even in Economy (same with the QF First Lounges in MEL/SYD). Though QR don't allow access to their First Lounge in Doha as a Platinum (this lounge does requre a First Class ticket).

  • I note all the airlines stated are *A. People asking why not Qantas, its because Qantas is already part of the same alliance. Why would they invite exisiting One World members?
I note Qatar Silver gets you lounge access to QR lounges, first I heard of Silver status getting you lounge access. Normally you need gold or Platinum, right?

    • There are few airlines grant lounge access to silver members AFAIK

    • Normally you do need Gold/Platinum though there are exemptions. For exmaple I know that EK Silver gives you lounge access in Dubai, and CX Silver gives you lounge access before CX flights only.

  • I remember Status Match with Hilton a while ago. Hacked the CSS of the SPG Website to give me top tier, sent a screenshot and received Hilton equivalent. Only problem never stayed at a Hilton on Business.
    Wonder if that works here.

    • Lol you can do that. Wow!

      • +1

You can commit fraud at any time!

  • I guess if you are at Red status on Virgin, you won't be eligible. I got around 300K points but red status. Will I get anything.

    • You can get Burgundy status.

      • +2

Don't you mean Ron Burgundy status.

  • +2

Anyone figure out how to download the last 2 statements from Velocity? All I could find is the Activity section, but that lists nothing about current status.

    • Yeah I am having trouble with this too!

    • +1

Yep what I did was go to My Activity then sort by each Month, then PDF each month.

      • Wow you needed a whole PDF for each of the past 2 months?
I just screenshot the last 6 months.

        • its only 2 pages so wasnt too much of a mission :) yea that works too. plus a screenshot of card from velocity app

          • +1

@smurfstah: I went the screenshot route from 'My Activity' and was just hit with my rejection email. Anyone had any luck?

            • +1

@Muffinman01: Damn, I did screenshots plus a picture of my Platinum card. What level were you and did you go back many months or just show a few empty pages?

EDIT: I just resent them my application with a proper PDF of my recent flight activity from the website (as opposed to screenshots from my Velocity app).

Goto here if you want to do the same.

              • @danielh: I'm gold, I sent a screenshot of 'My Activity' going back to the beginning of February and also a screenshot of my digital membership card. There was still a bit of activity on my account, my last flights were at the end of February, plus there's been the bonus status credits coming through.

They asked me specifically to not send screenshots, so I've just gone back to my account and done a print to PDF, and also uploaded a picture of my physical card. Will see how it goes I guess!

                • @Muffinman01: I'd also add in the photo of your physical card as well, they might not like Digital versions.

  • Most of the major airlines have status match during the year, its just not publicised widely. All a bit pointless at the moment though since no one is flying!

    • +3

It's been probably two years or more since I last saw a pure Status Match for a OneWorld airline. There has been the odd one for Star Alliance (eg the Turkish Airlines from from May 2019) and a few Status Challenges for OneWorld though.

I think I should stress how rare and good this particular deal is for those who are trying to transition from an unknown Velocity position to a known Qantas/Oneworld one. Do not miss out on this opportunity as it finishes Thursday 6.59am AEST this week.

When I start traveling for work again (domestic) it will most likely be with Qantas and so having access to the business lounges is a perk I definitely want to have while I rebuild my Status Credits back onto Qantas.

      • Turkish Airline had one recently where you could get elite status Star Alliance for $120 I think with an expiration date in 2022.

  • I don't understand what's going on, so I'm looking for a simple(r) explanation :-P

Anyone have the time, or care, to explain it to me :-)

    I already have:
    - 410k VA points
    - 50k SQ points

Even with these points, my status is quite 'normal' or low,
    in those respective frequent-flyer programs.

I am already a member of QMiles:
    - 6k points (expire: June 2022)
    - OneWorld Tier: Burgundy

So, I like seeing these kinds of deals on OzB, but I don't never really understood "status",
because although I used to fly a lot (pleasure, not business),
I just looked for cheapest flights and didn't care much for routes/class, to upgrade 'status'.

    • +1

A short and simple explanation of status,
      - You get status points when flying on eligible flights. (generally any full fare ticket)
      - Status points expire after X amount of time (usually a year)
      - You cannot redeem status points like FF points but instead when you get X amount of points your status is upgraded (normally to silver, gold etc)
      - At each level you get more perks it varies with airlines and is easy to find. The main things are (priority boarding, bonus point accrual, lounge access, free/discounted upgrades, baggage allowance upgrades and a bunch of other stuff)

      • Thank You !

So, Qatar Airways will match your 'existing status', with their own status?
(subject to their conditions & approval process)

I think I got the idea now.

I never really paid attention to "status points", because I didn't always qualify because of the 'class of ticket'.

        • +1

That's it. Yeah you need to fly pretty regularly to get a status that is worth much.

  • I'm struggling with which bit to send in? Can anyone possibly share a blurred screenshot of what they have emailed (besides the FF card)?

    • +1

I just screenshot a few months from my activity statement, will let them reply if they need something else. Obviously had no transactions in the last 2 months.

  • Nice find.
I've been quite loyal to Emirates with my flights to the UK but willing to consider others if my status with them will drop because our borders remain closed.
Was due to make Emirates Gold with a flight at the end of March that I was forced to cancel but if we don't get to start flying again soon I won't retain my silver :(

  • +1

I'm platinum virgin , over 1700 status credits so should qualify. Can anyone confirm if I get Qatar platinum I can access Qantas domestic lounge for a standard fight ?

  • Please note that if you plan to do domestic Qantas flights, you might not want to put your Qatar FF number against our Qantas domestic bookings as we will not get the status credits as the Qantas partner page on the Qatar Airways website states that “accrual on Qantas domestic flights are only eligible when they are in conjunction with an international flight marketed by either Qantas or Qatar Airways on the same ticket.”.

I think my plan will be to put my Qantas FF number on my domestic flights but flash my physical (or digital) QATAR card to the staff when trying to access the lounges. It means though that I will not be able to maintain or accrue the necessary qMiles and qPoints to maintain my Platinum so I'll have to hope that I'll fly enough to get Plantnum on Qantas normally (or at least gold).

To be honest the COVID situation means it is not likely though.

Another thought would be to use the Qatar number when booking and to get your preferred seat and then revert back to Qantas number before your flight. I cannot remember how the Qantas systems works now but I think that would be possible.

  • It says promotion has ended. Seems unfair considering the offer closes at 11.59pm on Wednesday May 20 (Doha time), which is 7am Thursday May 21 here

    • Wow, I guess being an early responder helped.

  • Anyone know if you can bring a guest (travelling partner) with you to the Qantas lounges if you are using your Qatar status to gain entry?

    • +1

Yes for domestic, even if not travelling.

Yes for international, and only if on same flight (one guest only).

  • Has anyone had success with this?

    • I’ve received the below response. So we’ll see how it pans out. I imagine they have been inundated so it’s nice to at least have acknowledgment.

      • I am the same. Received it at ~1am Sunday 24 May AEST. My match request was for Platinum.

    • +1

been 8 days and no reply yet :( request for platinum match with VFF

    • I just got mine through as a gold match, first email to them was sent on May 18 with a follow up on May 19 after more details were requested.

  • They are no longer matching Virgin Australia Velocity, as posted a new and updated offer for status match on their website.

    • I guess they don't like Virgin Airlines now. Disappointing but I'd still try for those who missed out. You never know.

  • Has anyone received a response yet to their request? I sent mine in and haven't gotten a reply.. Not holding out much hope they will actually match my Gold Velocity status.

    • +1

If you scroll up a bit it looks like so far two people (including myself) got some sort of response so far. Mine was for Platinum an I had attached in my email request:
      1. a picture of my platinum card
      2. a digital snapshot of my platinum card
      3. a PDF of my recent travel back until October 2019 (basically weekly flights)
      4. a stitched together equivalent of all my flights taken from screenshots from the Velocity app

Basically I over did the info requirements as only 1 and 3 were needed.

      • Haven't gotten a reply yet either. I don't hold up much hope based on what I've read about similar status offers they have run in the past.

        • Same here. I’m not sure why they bothered to be honest? Was worth a shot though.

    • Nothing back here… Not even an acknowledgement.

    • Mine just came through as a Gold match :)

  • Nothing here yet. Not confident and suspect they will renege based on the subsequent offer which they might decide to apply retrospectively. Hope I'm wrong though!

  • I got it tonight 8 June 9.10pm.

I actually got two emails as I send in some updated revisions to my application and so I ended up getting two separate reviews done to the same Qatar membership number.

  • Also got my email tonight confirming the match (in my case from SQ PPS Club).

  • Same too just got the email at 9:39pm, matched from Velocity Platinum

  • Executive Traveller reporting many VA got their statuses matched over the weekend. I haven't got mine yet, so feel a bit left out. I did get the service email response, but that was a week ago.

    • Mine came through about half an hour ago, check your email :)

  • Ive been granted a Platimum match. I have a question, why is mentioning that I have to earn 540 Qpoints to maintain the status. Shouldnt be 300???

    • did you get an answer?

  • Only just realized this was a thing. Is it too late for Virgin Gold status match or should I give it a crack?

    • I guess you could try even though they removed the Velocity match part a few weeks ago. Just remember to do provide all the right info and pictures etc.

I recommend a camera shot of your physical gold card and then go to the link to your Velocity Account and PRINT TO PDF all your flights dating back to maybe October 2019 to be sure.

Then package it up with the other info they requested and hope for the best.

      • Thanks Daniel, really appreciate it. Hopefully it'll work out!

  • Got an email from Qatar, telling me to check Contact Centre. No contact centre in my account. Set up Privilege whatever, now it's there but no previous message as indicated in the email. Put in another request.. here's hoping

    I scored!

My status match to platinum was confirmed last night!

  • I'm now just hoping they extend our status another 12 months considering we are not likely to fly internationally until mid next year.
