220

Pretty good deal at 50% off. I've just done my car yesterday so will probably wait to see if they do the 6L at half price sometime.

Autobarn has it for $19.99 in catalogue. Credit @doweyy

Thanks OP, not sure if it's worth updating the OP, but Autobarn has this for $19.99 in-store, and you should be able to price match at SCA too :)

  • Semi synthetic for those that are wondering.

  • Is it only for 10w-40? If it is, can you please update the title?

Thanks for posting the deal :)

  • Some mechanics won’t allow the oil we bring in. Need to buy from them.

Not hard to change yourself, I wouldn't bother buying my own oil if I was getting a mechanic to do it.

  • Just wondering if anyone had thoughts on the different engine oil brands…

I'm aware there's different grades and semi/full synth but what about a like for like comparison between all the 10w-40 oils from Penrite, Castrol, Mobil etc…

do Ozbargainers think there's a real difference or is it all down to marketing?

      Mainly marketing I'd say.

Personally I think it's more important to change it on time with a quality filter, rather than worry about minute differences between brands.

    • Exactly, I use this partly because I don't know any better and it was recommended and a ryco filter. I just buy them both when on special and change the oil and filter in the same month that rego is due twice a year. That way I just have them on hand ready.

    • There is a big difference
Oils are in groups (Group I, II all the way to IV - there is a Group V which refers to additives groups)
In terms of what is "best", a Full syn oil with Group V add package is your best, full syn oils retain their properties (and viscosity) throughout their service life. If you can afford the full syn do it! It also has benefits of additive package that consists of, for example, esters / friction modifiers which help on cold starts etc etc
If money is a issue, a semi syn or mineral will get the job done, stick to good service intervals or you'll have issues

      • The brands gear their oils to certain markets, if you watch their range you'll see it. Nulon for example has their Euro range, Valvoline has their MST range, Castrol is all over the place, Penrite target the Australian market with their additive packages and their range (the Outback Range, HPR range and so on)

does engine oil ever expire when not opened?

    • I wouldn't think so.

    • +1

They have a shelf life, Castrol goes for 5 years, Penrite 3 years etc
You end up having the base oil (crude oil) separating from the additive package
In most shops (supercheap, autobarn etc) the oil will never hang around for more than a few months before being sold so not usually an issue

  • Hi, can we use this 10w-40 to top up originaly 10w-30 filled engine? Thanks.

  • dude honest if you love in Melbourne you could have got a full serviced of car in 19.75 using cashback from shopback and Groupon purchase. so why buy the oil when you can get service +oil+ filter for cheaper

  • HAHA, yeah i was confused too, well i aint in melbourne, in adelaide bought service for 40.5 from groupon, and waiting for cashback from shopback
