Always wanted to try these but couldn't justify the price, would rather take Ben & Jerry's if I'm spending that sort of coin. Anyone recommend any flavours in particular? Probably go the cookie dough, maybe mint fudge or choc chip and birthday cake sounds ok.

It still works out at over $19 per 2 litres, compared to $4.50 per 2 litres for Bulla when it's on special.

This ice-cream is much much lower in calories, and that's why theres a price premium on it for those who are "health conscious".

        • +2

Oh wait, this is low cal ice cream? Ewwww. Full fat dairy every time.

I'll still but and try cos bargain.

          • @teereb: don't buy it unless you're trying to control your weight but can't control yourself slugging down a pint of ice cream

these aren't eaten because they "taste good" but because they "taste ice-creamy without calories"

      • Agree, is super expensive. For the price it would want to be heavenly ;-)

        • +3

If yours on a calorie controlled diet, having a binge day with 3 tubs and still not being over 1k cal, is heavenly.

          • +1

@MasterScythe: Yeah I agree, it's great for that type of thing, I wouldnt buy it at full price.

        Classic jv

You just can't avoid those negs lol

    • +1

Avoid. They taste gross. Stick with Ben & Jerry's -> Enjoy the calories and the taste.

  • If you're not concerned about the fat content, buy real ice cream. The two Halo Top varieties that I've tried (mint and one other) tasted more like not-particularly-pleasant cold cake than ice cream. 😝

    • you gotta find the right flavours. Candy bar is the best and tastes more normal.

  • That 3ml, hmmm

    • +1

473ml equates to roughly 16 ounces.

This product is made in the US so they are converting from Imperial to Metric.

      • The joys of different measures.

        • 473ml is a pint mate

Now if everyone else around the world is getting 473ml/a pint and they make a special batch for us at 470ml at the same price, how long before people complain about the missing 3ml?

@sauce2k6: Gentlemen, this is democracy manifest. Have a look at the headlock here. See that chap over there, he GET YOU HAND OFF MY 3ML

FYI they are supposed to be a bit more 'healthier' than normal ice cream - i.e. lower fat and calorie content.
Catch: flavour. Some of them taste ok & are reasonably strong, some of them don't. But after a few spoonfuls of any of them you don't really appreciate it - they all have the same creamy aftertaste of 'coconut milk' (or whatever it is that tastes like it) and the flavour gets relegated to the back.

In short: probably go for eating smaller quantities of full fat Hagendaz/Ben and Jerry than a lot of this stuff - you will enjoy it more (assuming you can somehow control yourself). Or alternatively, don't eat more than 2-3 spoons of this at a time to enjoy it the most.

Peanut butter flavour, for example, is great flavour for the first few spoons. Mint best to avoid.

      you will enjoy it more

      I really wish.
My whole life I've been a quantity over quality eater.
Been the bane of my existance.

      • Then get the hagendaz sample packs ;)

I love this stuff, but Tilly's is even better for a similar low cal ice cream alternative

  • +5

    the texture is weird

  • Not a fan of these tbh..heard about all the hype and have tried two flavours so far, and even if its 'lower calorie' ice-cream, it doesn't live up to the hype. Flavours I can vouch for:
    1. Cookies & Cream
    2. Sea Salt Caramel

  • The RRP is effed.
No way they're worth anywhere near $9.00

FYI this contains palm oil. I won't be buying.

    • +3

I'm looking at the ingredients and I can't find palm oil…

      • dairy-free has it, and you could argue the vegetable glycerin could be from palm oil.

  • Waiting to see if they bring out their low carb line which has recently been launched in the US. It's greta these lines are low cal by trimming a lot of the fat but it's pretty high in carbs still.

  • The Aldi equivalent "Kenny's" is way tastier than this, and $5 bucks normally.

    • Never realize this.. Will be buying that from now on.
How does it taste compared to the competition?

    • Kenny only has two flavor though?

    • I've been checking 3 different Aldi stores a couple times a week for the past month or so but they never seem to have them in stock unfortunately.

We need more companies making generic branded low sugar ice cream that's affordable. Getting slogged with fatties tax ain't fun.

    • +1

This isn't low sugar is low fat, it has almost as much sugar as a tub of Ben & Jerry's.

      • 10g sugar per 100g compared to 25g~ in Ben & Jerry, not really comparable

        • I did a quick count 1x10g, 1x 11g, 2x14g, 1x17g and 6x 20g+ so I'd say the majority of flavours are almost. They might be lower carb than other ice creams but most are not suitable for low carb except in very very small quantities.

    Goodbye freezer space 😋😋😋

My advice, if you love ice cream, don't buy it, it will complete ruin your memory of ice cream! It ain't ice cream, the taste is so awful, I only managed ate two spoonful.

If you don't want fat, don't want sugar, why do you want ice cream?

    • +1

Denada is great and it's low sugar.

  • +1

Ah damn, I already have 4 tubs in my freezer.

It's half price, though. stock for later?
