  or NBN FTTP or FTTC, or just wants and extra wifi-router

  But N300? OK if you have a special purpose in mind, but for most people, you can find ADSL or even VDSL modems with AC wifi for peanuts.
  Check ebay, gumtree etc for unwanted "free with contract" modems.

    it's true you can often find AC routers for maybe $20 over gumtree or ebay, the new ones flogging off Belong and TPG plans are common
