    • Thanks, I'll add to the post

If I am reading this right… Someone could book SYD-DOH, then within two weeks, change that booking to SYD-LHR for free.

Infact, you should be able to reach any European, Asian and South African destination.
      http://www.gcmap.com/mapui?P=DOH-LHR,+DOH-SHA,+DOH-DPS,+DOH-…

      • Yes, my theory too. If you lived in Doha you'd look for the shortest possible (or cheapest possible flight), then change to LHR or wherever…

        Harder from Aus of course.

        • I'm not finding anything under $5k for SYD-DOH return in economy in Q4.

Good try by Qatar, but I'm not sure this works for us. When international flights return, I'm expecting much better deals!

          • @BluBoy: You’ve not seen any good deals because it was plundered since last Thursday by Travel Bloggers and all creative routes have been explored.
One possible route that a member in AFF booked was CMB-DOH then changed it to CMB-DOH-LHR for 750 return in Business.

  • potentially hackable if you find the right deal and plan your booking right?).

    Please clarify what you mean.

Are you implying you wouldn't need to pay the fare difference (cancellation and change fees aside)?

    Disregard. Thanks RogueWolf

I have to give it to Qatar, they're doing a lot during this pandemic.

-Flights to a large amount of designations while others are pulling flights
    -Status matches for 12 months
    -Free flights for doctors/hospital works/etc
    -And now this

I realise they're a business like every other company and not just doing these things to help out, but they're doing a fantastic job of thinking outside the box while almost every other airline is struggling.

    • -2

they're a business like every other company

      no they're not

almost every other airline is struggling

perhaps because Qatar airline is owned by The Government of Qatar- one of the richest countries in the world

    • Good luck contacting them when you have issues.

They have 1 Australian office phone number who handles general enquries and sales. They might give you a support email which didn't work for me. If you need further assistance, you need to submit a ticket via Zendesk which goes unanswered.

We'll see if they'll get back to my refund request from mid march due to covid.

  • Cheapest fare I can find from Melbourne is $1,500 to Copenhagen which you can change to anywhere within 5000 miles. I'll pass.

  • This has been posted already hasn't it?

  • You’re a bit late to the party. This has been talked about since last Thursday and Friday and Qatar has since made a few changes.
    No fifth freedon flights
Changes can only be made 14 days after booking
    Only one change is allowed
    https://onemileatatime.com/qatar-airways-booking-policy/

    • Yes, it's already been plundered, leading to the new restrictions. However, while much less lucrative now, some people might still be able to hack something useful out of it.

And it's good for non-hackers too in terms of general flexibility and peace of mind (at least as written, how well they deliver is another matter). Much better than other airlines.

  • You can change your origin to another city within the same country or any other destination we fly to within a 5,000 mile radius of your original destination.

Does anyone else interprate that as being able to change your origin to anywhere they fly within 5000 mile of origin?

If you can the best thing to do is get a flight from Manila to somewhere in Europe in business class - Varies on destination but Rome can be had for as low as $2,300 return in business. Then just call up and change your origin to somewhere in Australia. You then have return business class flight to Europe for a bit over $2k.

    • You can’t origin has to be in the same country.

  • Do people read this as saying you can convert your flight to a 2-year travel voucher for any reason before departure?

    • Yes, thats how I interpret it.

  • 5000 mile radius covers 40% of the planet's surface area.
Here it is on a map, in case anyone is interested or planning.

  • It says your flight has to depart before 31st Dec 2020.
Does anyone know if you can call them (after the 14 day period) & change it to a date next year?

    • You have to travel before 31st December to make use of the 5000 miles benefit.

  • I will never fly Qatar Airways….Only last month: Female Passengers On Qatar Airways Flight To Australia Detained & Required To Remove Underwear. They were then forced to go an invasive genital examination, without consent, on the tarmac due to a prematurely born baby found in the terminal ladies’ room.
