My brother is using the HP Omen 17 (2018 version) at the moment and it quite bulky. This new HP Omen is 22% thinner and lighter.
I decided to buy this instead of Alienware m17 R2 due to the price difference. Plus the GPU in this one is a full one not MAX-Q.

i have the same omen with gpu 2080, paid 2780. feels cheap, its very plasticky and touch marks are very visible, got it with really bad background light bleed, customer service does not exist and they dont recognize this as a problem, this is my last purchase of HP product for sure. says its bang and olufsen audio but my 10 year old dell had better speakers. also hp has the only bios that does not support XMP, and raid controller does not work. upgraded ram to 32gb and got another same ssd. not to mention it overheats really bad, had to undervolt cpu and get a cooling pad and 2x vacuum coolers for the rear to actually be able to play gpu demanding games.

    • Does it mean you cant play AAA game with this lap due to the heat and undervolt?
Let me know mate, i may cancel my order ^^

      • His is a more powerful RTX2800, so this being a RTX2070 should run cooler. The rest of the issues outlined most likely apply to this model as they share the same chassis.

gpu doesnt really overheat, it runs at 40-60 degrees, its a beast handles everything well, its the cpu that overheats, i will try to open it and apply better thermal paste later on the heatsinks, now its winter and its cool so all good

          • @[Deactivated]: Unbelievable, they managed to tame the GPU, but then failed in designing a suitable cooling solution for the CPU.

          • @[Deactivated]: How did u do that mate?
Can you please share the advice and experience?

  • Have anyone bought one recently? I am interested in getting this HP OMEN 17 but concern around the shipping time as it stated 4-6 weeks.

Please be careful with HP I purchased a laptop from their online store. They called me the day after I placed the order & advised due to Covid19 they were unable to supply the laptop & would have to cancel the order. They then sent an email to confirm the order was cancelled. The next day they CHARGED my credit card. I emailed them & they advised that a refund would be processed & I would be notified again when refund was finalised. It has been 2 weeks since the last email so I have initiated a chargeback request through my credit card provider.
