  • How hard is it to install the cameras? I'm pretty dumb with tools.

    • +3

dirt easy. as hard as you want to make it tbh…my relationship with Arlo has been love/hate tbh. It's gone downhill (for me) since they split from Netgear. Seems to be better on iOS but still it's load time is slower than what it once was.

      • +1

I agree. Now by the time an intruder (or delivery person) has come and gone, THEN I get the notification. It's so slow. Not to mention when you try to just have a conversation with someone through the camera, it's super delayed.
        It's not worth the money

        • +3

          Thank God the code expired.

          • @michaelTito: save30 is still working haha

            • +3

@Da dpG: not with the review you just wrote!!

              • @michaelTito: it's good if you wire them.. but not if you use the battery way where it records when motion activated.
"apparently" if you wire them up to a power source it's 24/7 recording and i think they made it free for you to be able zone record which is handy. but again i'm not sure..

          • +1

            @michaelTito: Ditto.

Was about to spend hundreds of dollars on security cameras for a house I don’t even have yet.

        • I agree. Now by the time an intruder (or delivery person) has come and gone, THEN I get the notification. It's so slow.

That was my experience with the original Arlo (the one with 4 CR123As), but when I switched to the Arlo Pro, I noticed the notifications were very quick. I have one outside a door, when I open the door from the inside, I get a notification on my Android phone within ~2 seconds, all the time. It's quite surprising for a battery-powered camera. Not sure if my experience is typical or not.

          • @eug: So your notifications are real time? What about when speaking through your camera via your phone? Any lag there?

            • @Da dpG: Yup, surprisingly my notifications are near-realtime. I'm probably more surprised at how consistent it has been.

I just powered up my spare Arlo Pro camera and pointed it at a stopwatch. The delay between the stopwatch and what I see on my phone (wifi off, connected to Telstra) is about 3 seconds.

Talking to the camera, the delay is less than a second. But the audio coming from the camera is delayed by about 3 seconds.

I noticed if the connection is interrupted, when it resumes, it resumes where it dropped off, so the delay is longer. Stopping and starting the video makes it go back to normal.

The speaker on my Arlo Pro is barely audible though - I wouldn't consider it usable unless it was dead quiet!

              • +2

@eug: I bought the US 2 camera model for $350ish back in December, and just been super lazy setting it up. Saw this deal, which made me finally bite the bullet(I very nearly bought the 4 camera + smartthings combo from this deal….). Took 30 minutes max to setup app, base station, both cameras and mounting. Could not believe how easy it was.

My impressions: Notifications are instant. Out of the box, delay was maybe 3 seconds, but it seems to have optimised itself and now is around 1 second on both cameras. Both the speaker and microphone are excellent. Geofencing works really well.

Free cloud storage for 7 days, but I also added a 2TB external hard drive to keep the recordings.

Connecting to live is about the only issue I have. Front camera always works within 5 seconds, back camera is hit and miss and can take anywhere up to 15-20 seconds.

Overall for $350 it is an amazing little kit.

  • +2

The 4 Pro 2 camera pack is a bargain. But i dont need 4 cameras

    • +1

You could always keep the camera as spare or resell them.

  • Tried SAVE40 on the Arlo 2 but it doesn't seem to work.

    • I'm also receiving "Invalid coupon".

  • SAVE40 code seems to have stopped working, sounds like someone made a mistake

  • +1

I'm getting a "Invalid coupon" at checkout?

  • damn, ozbargained. SAVE40 no longer works.

  • Code stopped working

    • Oh, i must have been lucky enough to get the code to work for me before it ended.

  • Was playing up between Arlo 3 vs Arlo 2. Reviews I know Arlo 3 is better but can't pass up the 4 pack Arlo 2 bundle.
Anyone have any personal experience with the two and if there is a massive difference other than clearer image?

    • I don't know about the image quality, but don't forget you get free 7 day cloud storage with the 2. You need a subscription for cloud storage for the 3.

Hopefully Arlo doesn't pull the 2's free cloud storage in the future!

  • +1

    Code no longer works

  • Thoughts on Arlo2 vs Ring 2 Video Doorbells?

Does Arlo provide local storage as on option or is it all cloud based now?

  • Not working on the Ultra 4k 2pk. If it worked that is a real bargain.

  • +2

Try SAVE30 - this seems to work and brings it to $769.30 in case anyone is still interested at this price.

    • +1

Yes, I just completed my order using save30.

  • Arlo! Arlo! Anybody there? Code not working…

  • Try SAVE30, SAVE20, SAVE10

    • Save30 works

  • worth it even if 1080p?

  • Wonder if the SAVE Codes were an mistake on the RACV side, and if they will be honouring them

  • Crap. Was too late. :(

  • Is it worth it still at even 30% off.

  • +1

Just as a comparison, I bought this product but with 3 cameras with racv last year for $700.

The cameras working fine, but 2 out of the 3 batteries completely stopped working in 3-5 months of use.

  • -1

not really, the shipping is quite high

    • +1

      says free shipping

      • How to get free shipping? I am trying to order 2 motion sensors and it's showing shipping as 13.5$

        • It was quite strange there were two options free shipping and standard shipping for $13.50.

  • I would stay away from these unless you have proper outdoor wiring. The batteries will inevitably fail and they are such a pain to change regularly.

    • +3

If you have proper outdoor wiring, then definitely get wired cameras instead of these. Much cheaper. The only reason to get Arlo is for the full wireless.

  • 2 things:
    - Bunnings have the Pro 2 Solar Panel for $99 so just go there (beats the 30% $149 on RACV)
    - Been running a Pro 2 setup for nearly a year and no issues at all. Most of the time a lag issue will be caused by the upload speed of the home network. Can’t comment on battery failure although mine have been fine.

    • What internet speed are you running out of curiosity? I'm running 25/5 mpbs and I still have lag

      • 50/20. Remember that if your router is too far from the camera it’ll also affect performance. So maybe a mesh WiFi like this will do it good!

        • I guess that's why if you buy the arlo bundle it comes with the Samsung Smart things mesh for it to connect.

        • it's plugged directly into my router though.. this is why i'm a little confused

          • @Da dpG: If the cameras are plugged directly in to your router then I’m confused. I actually don’t remember there being an Ethernet port on the cameras themselves?

    • We've had the solar panel for maybe a year or so, and battery is always at 100%. Just FYI for anyone interested.

Edit: in Brisbane. But the solar panel is only in direct sunlight for maybe a couple of hours each morning.

  • Yep, got the ultra with the 30% code, still a pretty good deal.

  • Me slow.

  • Bugger :(

If anyone wants impulsed bought and wants to sell a couple of cameras let me know.

  • Works on the Yale Assure SL + network module

  • +2

Be aware of the differences of Arlo camera products and cloud recording - just a heads up Arlo Pro 2 offers 7 days cloud recording while newer Arlo products are subscription based

  • How was this only active for under an hour? Been waiting for a good deal for the Pro 2 and I go to the bloody hospital for an afternoon and miss it.

    • Think the code wasn't meant to be used.

surely Some broden would have bought a heap of them and sell them for 20% off to make a buck

  • Not sure about paying for the Arlo cloud subscription for Arlo Pro 3 & Ultra devices….

  • bought the Arlo Pro 2 4 camera last night and wanted to cancel it, but RACV don't provide a cancellation less the 24 hours of putting order. this is a Poor form I reckon. Won't be purchasing stuff from RACV anymore.

    • So you can still cancel it but only after 24 hours?

      • At first they refused, but after I told them I'm very dissapointed. They are happy to provide the refund now.

    • You won't buy from RACV again because you changed your mind on a purchase?

      • the problem is it's very difficult to find that information on their website. If you search Cancellation in their Website, it's all showing insurance cancellation information. the Tax invoice is no email information only phone numbers which when you called it told you to email instead. I'll buy their insurance product, but not goods that they are selling as their policy is no change your mind policy. I believe most of the store provides or at least more transparent about change your minds less that 24 hours of putting order. But it's my experience. So far after a Disappointing email to them they happy to provide a refund as I wrote the comments.

        • +1

I'll buy their insurance product, but not goods that they are selling as their policy is no change your mind policy.

I think that's pretty normal - change-of-mind returns are not usually accepted unless it's a major retailer who can afford the labour costs and uncertainty involved - which usually means higher prices. Even the ACCC says you are not entitled to a change of mind return or refund.

          • @eug: Fair enough I guess, I can consider RACV is not a Major Retailer lol. But I'll keep this in mind for the future. Thanks for the information.

    • Why did you want to cancel?

      • decided to get Eufycam 2C after reading how bad the reviews on Arlo Pro 2 https://www.productreview.com.au/listings/netgear-arlo-pro-2 and also how bad is sound quality, etc https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rfu32i0OAh4&t=776s

        • I would love to know how you find the Eufycam's. I am having a real difficult time trying to decide between the Arlo Ultra and the Eufy ones. It's been doing my head in for months and months.

        • +1

decided to get Eufycam 2C after reading how bad the reviews on Arlo Pro 2

Be careful with review sites like productreview.
With any product, there will always be people who don't have the best luck, or have unrealistic expectations. Because they're angry or disappointed, they will look for sites like productreview and rant away.

Sometimes their rants are warranted, sometimes they're just not aware about how technology works. Take a look at the first review - the first thing they say is "remember that the sensors for alerting you do not work through glass". All these battery-powered cameras, the Eufycam included, use a PIR sensor for motion detection. None of them will work through glass.

The second thing they mention is that the camera can be unscrewed from the external wall mount. That is no different to any other battery-powered camera out there.

For that, they give two stars.

If I do read productreview reviews, I have to read them carefully to figure out if the user simply has no clue, or it's a genuine concern with the product.

There's definitely a large number of users out there, me included, who have no problems with the Arlo Pro cameras. Because I have had no problems, I haven't bothered to seek out a product review site just to post a comment saying "Everything works great". So as a result you'll naturally read more negative comments on sites like productreview - so don't base your decisions solely on a site that attracts complaints.

  • Has anyone got notification on shipping yet ?

  • +1

No notification on shipping and credit card payment says pending. Hope this doesn’t end in tears.

    • Yes I hope not. Will check my credit card.

      • +1

fyi, i asked for an update on my order through their live chat. Response:
"Your order has been processed and is due to be shipped currently awaiting tracking numbers to be sent out"

i have the original arlo and have been happy with it for years based on how old it is so this would be an upgrade. Value for money wise its great because i got the smart things bundle included so once i sell my old arlo system i would have paid only a minimal amount to upgrade to a better system for my case.

        • +1

Thank you its good to know they are processing the orders . In my case I am just starting out have ordered the "Smart Home Starter Kit", when I receive it I will have to do a lot of research and planning on what I do next. Firstly I will have set the "SmartThings Wi-Fi Hub" into bridge mode so it talks to my router also hoping to attach some security cameras to the install.

  • Both my orders were canceled.

    • aw man, what did you order?. looks like I'm waiting for my cancellation too then

      • One smart hub and then the other was a smart starter kit.
You might be lucky, the cancelation email said it was because the system malfunctioned and I ordered when there wasn't any stock or something. Not sure if that's true.

  • Is there anything good to spend $50 on in 90 days in their store

  • Reply back from RACV when asking about the voucher and if they getting more stock in
The shop is currently up to date with the stock that’s available. We will also not be offering any further SmartThings products as the range has been discontinued at RACV.

  • Anyone received shipping notifications??

    • no notification but alert from Australia Post on shipment

  • +1

Just got a strange email with shipping numbers and an express post but the sender is “If undelivered return to”. I can only imagine it’s RACV…

    • I got that too so it seems quite probable then.

    • Oh i see. Was wondering what the package was for.

    • I got the same a well but wasn't game to open the email as I thought it could have been a virus. Did check with Aus Post site an it seem legit but who it from I don't know.

      • +1

        YOLO. It’s RACV. Yippee!

        • It's the little things that make people happy.

    • Same here i received same.. So seems orders are shipping finally

    • Me too got the same email.

    • yep mine just arrived. everything present and accounted for.

      • That's great to hear. Mine arrived at facility BRISBANE AIRPORT this morning and has not moved.

      • Mine is still sitting at Dandenong south Vic and it says its going to be delivered today in NSW. Not sure what's happening

        • Did status change for you ? Mine also is same…

          • @Mitr: I just received my package but it only contained the smart things package and the arlo 2 pack arrives Thursday according to schedule.
Not sure why they separated the packs but looks like its on track.

            • @mr chow: Good to know..

Hmm weird.. my tracking has 4 items .. 2 items show in NSW and others are still not updated and stuck in VIC

              • @Mitr: Finally got my box today. All in good order.
I just realised what the 7-day rolling free recording is. So continuous recording that is backed up for 7-days and roles over as the days go by.

      • did you also receive same weird email from Australia post on shipment yesterday??

        • yeah, from "If Undelivered please return to"

  • i anyone has a spare camera to sell hit me up!

  • Just received mine today

    • +1

Same here. Received mine in Perth.
