JBL SB160 2.1ch 220W Soundbar $199 (Was $299) +$10 Delivery @ The Good Guys

160

I've been keeping my eye out for soundbars and saw this in an e-mail this morning.

This JBL SB160 Soundbar has two channels and a 220 W total output for immersive home entertainment experiences. It has four powerful full range drivers and comes with a wireless subwoofer to deliver balanced sound with extra-deep bass on movie nights, or when listening to your favourite playlists on your smartphone, laptop or tablet via its Bluetooth connection. It's a solid pick for choosing a less expensive alternative to improve your home theatre sound.

  • would this be a better option over the Yamaha YAS108?

    • The YAS108 doesn't have a stand alone sub like this one (120w total). Can't comment on the audio quality on either however.

    • Underwhelmed by the yas108 despite all the Ozbargain hype. Maybe more suitable for a smaller room

      • I have seen that with allot of ozbargain hyped products.

  • Specs say 2 x 52W plus 1 x 116W. Is that good?

I got this last time it was on sale! It works well and definitely improves the quality of the sound compared to the tv Speakers. The subwoofer is quite powerful as well! Only downside is the lack of options in terms of adjusting audio levels. There are three modes (music, movie or news) you can choose from but that's about it.

    • Also, the Bluetooth range is very limited and seems to be working better with my girlfriend's iPhone than my Pixel 4.

      • Is there a wired option - if we don't 2wnt to bluetooth

        • Not for phones. There is HDMI and Optical input, no AUX.

          • @proteus119: No AUX , bit silly i think,i know it’s designed for tv’s but not hard or expensive to add that capability..

  • Beware with their online ordering! I just tried to order with credit card payment and it's taken my money but given an error (and doesn't seem to have completed the order)

  • I think TCL TS7010 is good competitor in $200ish price mark. Excellent reviews for TCL. Was $195 last week at Retravision. Cheapest today is $228 at appliancesonline:

    • TCL is a cheap low-end China-brand and it made in China with Chinese inferior technology. TCL is known more for its cheap pricing TV brand. JBL (USA brand) + Samsung (Korea) is the same company. Samsung took over JBL through one of its subsidiaries.

  • Anyone seen any good deals on an alternative with rears? (like the Sony HT-RT3)

I actually have a decent amp and 5.1 but the wife would like to get rid of the massive floor speakers and get something more compact.

    Purchased one yesterday. Very happy.
As an added bonus it can learn your TV remote so you can control the TV & sound bar with one remote.

  • I bought this model "JBL CINEMA SB160 2.1ch 220W Soundbar" from The Good Guys (Brown Plains, Brisbane) last week.
PROS: The sound quality is quite good for the under-$200 price range. The base is quite powerful. Good for watching movies, music videos (MV) and sports. The soundbar output is 104W and the sub-woofer is 116W. Good for a bedroom or small apartment.
CONS: The sub-woofer (Bass) volume cannot be adjusted as there is no control button on the remote control. This model soundbar is Made in China. The remote control is very basic.
Overall, for $199, it is value for money. The normal price was $299.
