From their website:

One fee-free date change – Australian domestic travel

If you book flights through Jetstar.com between 21 May and 30 June 2020, we’ll waive the change fee if you decide to change the date of your travel. When you’re ready to rebook, you’ll need to cover any Fare Difference in your new booking. This offer applies for travel between 12 June and 31 October 2020 on any Jetstar Airways (JQ) domestic flights within Australia.

In the instance that your flight is cancelled by us, we’ll rebook you on the next available flight to your booked destination, at no additional cost to you. Alternatively, you can choose other options.

"In the instance that your flight is cancelled by us, we’ll rebook you on the next available flight at no additional cost to you."

a company that cancels my flight and doesn't charge me to rebook. w0w what a deal!

*N.B. and yes i read the topic as "free" fare too…

Is this only applicable on flights booked from 21/5? So if I booked for travel within that period previously, I will still need to pay to change?

Yeap, so I booked previously to travel in August and still need to pay to change flight.

I booked flights on 26/12/2019 for August/September this year through QANTAS but include Jetstar flights… 4 in total, domestic. It was for a wedding which has been cancelled but I am told to wait and hope that 1 of the flights is cancelled by Jetstar or QANTAS so I don't incur fees cancelling/ point loss… Even though its within that travel period up until October this year….

    • that is whats frustrating. they are giving this option to people booking flights now despite all that happened, but people like yourself that booked and paid before corona was a thing are left in the cold. not cool

You need to pay Fare Difference. Which is a big deal breaker.

you’ll need to cover any Fare Difference in your new booking

So take my money, cancel the flights, you het credit to pay for the increased price?

Yeah, nah. Unless you're going NSW/Vic. Everywhere else is closed.

These guys aren't trustworthy especially in the current environment… They decide to cancel the flight and then you get to fare pay the difference for the next flight.

cancel everyone and move to next available flight. Prices had increase since you booked.
      Now
Take the money > cancel the flight > offering showing generosity, you pay extra for the next flight !!

we’ll rebook you on the next available flight to your booked destination,

Yeah but when is that? That night, the next week, the next month, the next year? Then you have to rebook accom to match the new flights (since Jetstar is mostly holiday destination).

Funny had a Gold Coast holiday rental agency email offering $100 off if i booked a place in May… thanks guys, but Qld is only open to Qld'ers for the foreseeable future.

        • The above comments I was responding to were about cost, incorrectly claiming that you would have to pay fare difference to rebook the next flight after a cancellation.

Your comment about retiming is the situation with the whole industry. If you can't handle the risk don't book, especially anything non-refundable.

@UrMumsOnlyFan: No, they didn't mean the next actual scheduled flight, they meant the subsequent rebooking for the flight.

Even in the old days (pre-mid march), if they moved your flight (or cancelled it) you could change for no fee (I did that numerous times when they change the departure time to +/-1hr). They're being deceptive smart@$$'s and should be called out for it.

            • @[Deactivated]: No, they used the words "next flight" and "next available flight".

Either way, this is not worth discussing further.

                @UrMumsOnlyFan: I still say

They're being deceptive smart@$$'s and should be called out for it.

You're not disputing that, so I'm guessing you agree…so I'll agree with your assertion

And you'd be wrong. I don't see anything deceptive or smartass in the change policy. It may not be a good policy but that is a different matter.

so I'll agree with your assertion

Cool. Have a good night bro.
