I don't know this is true or helpful, but I bought a 12 month plus around this time last year, and the year before, and it looks like if you buy around now, your subscription finishes just at the next sale one comes on. So might be a good time if you want to combo sales.

    • +1

Same but mine was a couple weeks ago and have missed out each year.

      • +4

If you buy a year now, doesnt it just add 365 days to whatever you have left?

        • +1

          yes it does

        • +2

Yeah, that's been my experience, it'll just stack

  • Thanks OP

I renew just in time around this period to coincide with this sale.

  • +1

The rest of the deals doesn't seem that great:

    PlayStation VR bundles**:
PS VR Starter Pack for £199.99/€199.99 RRP
PS VR Mega Pack for £229.99/€229.99 RRP
A wide selection of games** including:
    Nioh 2 from £39.99/€49.99 RRP
    Death Stranding from £24.99/€29.99 RRP
    Days Gone from £15.99/€19.99 RRP
    PlayStation Hits games:
Selected titles** in the PlayStation Hits range from £11.99/€14.99 RRP each, including The Last of Us Remastered, God of War, Horizon Zero Dawn and more.
Save 30% on a 12-month PlayStation Plus membership***
Save 30% on a 12-month PlayStation Now membership** and play over 700 PS4, PS3 and PS2 classics for a year

    • Last years Days of Play the VR bundles were the same price in euro/pound and we ended up with ~$280 AUD mega packs. If the same thing happens this year I’m sure plenty of people will gobble them up.

      • WAIT. Ps vr mega pack can be 280$????? I will definitely buy it when is this sale I need a date please and thank you.

  • If i have 3 more months does it add on or do I loose it?

    • +8

It stacks for a number of years (I've had 3 stacked, unsure of actual cap though)

    • +4

Every subscription period you buy just keeps pushing your expiry date out further and further.
Have 6 months left and buy a 12-month subscription? Now you have 18 months left. Seems like the furthest the expiry date can be is several years.
So if you had the cash and enjoy the security of having ps plus constantly active, you could wait for a decent sale like this one and then sort out the next like 5 years worth of subscriptions in one go.

  • It seems like a good deal, is it still worth owning a US account?

    • I question this as well. Have had a US account since 2013, but with the dollar as it is…

    • +3

US PS+ accounts aren't nearly as good value as they once were apart from the very occasional bargain. I let my US sub expire years ago and don't feel I have missed much.

    • I don't think I've ever paid more than $50AU year for my US account. I just got 2 years for I think $93AU. So, in my opinion, yeah. But I don't have an AU Plus sub.

Edit: I've been told it was more than $93, but under $100AU, for 2 years. Not exactly sure, can't check at present.

  • +2

Still holding out for a repeat of last year's error deal (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/498436). One day…

  • Happy I didn't buy Death Stranding last week, will wait until next week :)

  • +2

FWIW - the retail stores will likely follow suit soon. eg the JB's, EB's, BigW's, Targe….

    …..whoa. Too soon dude.

    Too soon.

  • +2

Get in quick, so you can enjoy Farming Simulator! lol
    (I have a PSN membership)

  • Nice. Right on time!

  • +1

Neat, I was waiting for this for the last 3 months lol

  • +2

Costco you can buy $50 PS credit for $48. Any better deals?

    • +4

I’m not sure why u getting negged but it’s a great question. Who wouldn’t want to get an extra saving on top of the 30%? I’d be interested to know the answer.

    • I went to the one on Marsden Park yesterday but couldn't find any PS Credit. There's XBox Live and Google credits though.

      • Did you ask? Maybe they've stopped. :|

It seems a couple of banks give 6% off EB and JB gift cards as mentioned below, but you have to be a customer.

EB have had stickers up on games since Thursday at a lot of stores, but it seems they're making their sale official Monday from facebook. Hopefully they discount PS store credit.

        • Wait? EB are having a sales?

        • Costco not selling any PS cards anymore unfortunately.

  • Been waiting for a PS+ Subscription Sale - Thanks Dealbot!

  • +2

Combined with 6% off EB/JB gift cards, 36% off is even better. Time to stack once again!

    • +2

Your math is off but yes it’s a good saving.

      • What did I miss? $52.61 gets me a $55.97 EB gift card.

        • Can you top up a gift card with odd values like that $55.97?

          I didn't know that. I thought its usually fixed $50, $100, etc.

        • +1

You’re getting 6% off the 30% off price. Which is 34.2% off. 36% off would be $51.17.

        • +1

It’s not 30% + 6%. It would be 1-($52.61/$79.95)= 34.19%. It would be like assuming that 50% off something that’s already half price would mean it’s 100% off.

    • Great value ! Will actually consider renewing

  • Hopefully they have some controllers on special in stores.

  • I just bought the US deal after waiting for ages. This would have been great…

  • +1

Eb Games prices matched and gave a pair of socks last time as well.

  • 8% off ebgames gift card might be the best option?

    • How do you get 8% off with EB?

  • +1

My PS Plus expired last week, I'm very happy to wait a couple of weeks and save some dollars

  • Sorry if this has been covered.

What happens if the free game I really enjoy comes in the 12th month?

Potentially I could have 11 months with nothing? Pay 12 month subscription and then 1 month to play the game I want?

Depending on what comes with the sub and when it comes, I might be better off just buying the individual game?

    • +1

What happens if the free game I really enjoy comes in the 12th month?

Then you get that game as part of your subscription?

Potentially I could have 11 months with nothing? Pay 12 month subscription and then 1 month to play the game I want?

PS+ also gives you cloud saves and online play functionality.

I might be better off just buying the individual game?

Depends on how often you play your PS4, and whether you go online or not. If you play online, you have no choice but to buy PS+, then the 'free' games come as a bonus.

      • Thanks! I guess I should consider it as cloud save and online play plus free games sometimes!

        • Some free games turn out to be hidden gems. I'm totally addicted to Horizon Chase Turbo.

    • The opposite could be true. What happened if the game(s) you are interested get(s) added in the 2nd or 3rd months? By that time, this deal is gone.

Right now, with Covid-19, EB games refuse to accept trade ins. You only have feeBay, Gumtree and Facebook marketplace to sell games.

If you ONLY play the games you really want or you prefer to play new games right away, then PS Plus probably won't be attractive. There are quite a few Sony exclusives I wouldn't buy, but wouldn't mind playing. If you don't play online, all you need to do is go through one year list of PS Plus games, calculate the ones you would play and estimate the value you think they are worth to you.

  • +1

I don't play online games, nor do I care for the 2 free game but I absolutely love the cloud saves. I recently renewed after 2-3 years without ps plus and it was awesome to discover all my old saves on the cloud that I didn't even realised still existed. It encouraged me to go back and finish/100% games that I thought I had lost the saves for.

    • +1

Sorry for the silly question, but why weren't they saved on the PS4? When you delete a game to load new ones does it delete the saved file too?

      • +1

Not silly at all, it is possible to delete game data while keeping the save data (they are kept in 2 different areas in settings). I do this all the time when I want to clear room for new games etc. I lost all my saves a couple of years ago when my hard drive corrupt from a black out while the ps4 was still on, So i had to rebuild the hard drive and it wiped everything.

      • Or when your PS3 dies like mine did, cloud save is a life saver

  • already stacked for couple of yrs…

  • Recommendations for 2-3TB external HD? 1TB barely fits anything, and I tend to buy all hard copies. However with free monthly games, it's likely to fill up internal hard drive easily. Thank you

    • Western Digital passport 2tb $99. I've heard bad things about Seagate.

      • How easy is it to get external drive working? Can you get a ssd or improve its speed?

        • I have found that SSD works for initial game load and single player (offline) game load times. But doesn't do squat for online game load times, ie. Destiny/Cod etc

  • -6

I don't understand console users, they buy the game THEN they need to get this to play online, wtf ahahha, SONY raking that free $$$ in

    • Still much cheaper than having to upgrade ur pc components every few years for them to stay relevant. I used to play PC but the upgrades were costing a fortune.

      • +2

bruhhh you don't need to upgrade every few years. It's a want ;) I've had my gaming PC rocking strong 8 years and can play all games. e.g the latest cod requires i5-2500K CPU and rocking the i7-2700k just fine.

        • Cost of games for console side is cheaper generally, with regular deals. If you buy physical copies, play quickly, you can resell them. There are generally attractive deals. A few RDR2 deals (pre-order and early discount). Traded in two old games and got RDR2 on launch day for $29. Sure, you can wait 7 years for the game(s) to be made free on PC.

Sony exclusive games - you cannot play them on PC. Also, PC equivalent hardware costs more. Technically, a $70 BD-ROM/writer with XL support could play Ultra HD blu-ray discs (you can rip the contents out), but due to licensing requirement, it has to be blocked from doing so. However, when Microsoft put something similar in XBox One S/X, they can take advantage of it.

Even with GamePass Ultimate (or PC Beta), playing Gears 5 and Forza Horizon 4 early on was quite buggy on PC. It was frustrating enough for me so I played them on XB1X first and later moved to PC after a couple of patches were released. But, by then, I already finished most of it and with GPUltimate being $1/month during those times, it was fine to just play on the console.

          • +1

@netsurfer: PC gamers just pirate. They safe that money to upgrade.

    • -2

Technically, Micro$oft started charging for online play for consoles first.
Yes, for online play, in most cases, console users need to pay for PS Plus for XBLiveGold or GamePass Ultimate. At least Sony waived some games (i.e. Fortnite).

  • If PS5 comes out, can you transfer the subscription across? If not, you might want to consider not stacking too long.

    • +5

Of course you can. The fact most people are unhappy that PS Plus no longer gives out PS3 and Vita free games is a good indication.

    • If?
I know times are tough at the moment, but things will go back to normal one day!

  • Can't wait!!

  • Wow, nice!

  • PS. If we’re lucky, we might get a repeat of this deal!

With all the recent dilution of the AUD, $55 could represent the same value as $45 from 6 months ago.

  • I've been checking all morning, price is still RRP. Pretty sure it kicked off today?

I realise the discounted price is available via other channels but I was curious if last year's compound discount might repeat.

Seems we have the opposite this yr with no discount at all?!

    • I'm assuming it's based on 3 June 2020 North American or European time, so we'll have to wait a few more hours for the rest of the world to catch up.
      https://blog.playstation.com/archive/2020/05/22/days-of-play…

However, this page seems to suggest that the subscription discount is only available via retail stores:
      https://www.playstation.com/en-au/campaigns/days-of-play/

(If you click "Get the deal", it pops up a window with EB Games and JB Hifi listed)

I guess we'll find out later today.

      • Nope, it’s based on the 3rd here in Australia. Usually there is a tab within the store that would take you to all the deals but that’s not there either. Retail discounts started earlier than the PS Store discounts.

I’m thinking it just hasn’t updated yet.

  • has this ended? still showing as $80 for me

    • Via the PS Store nope, it’s meant to start today. Doesn’t look like it’s live yet though.

    • more likely it hasn't started. Maybe check back later today

  • +1

It's $55.95 in store at EB atm

    • Support an Aussie company
      (it is Aussie, right???)

      • +1

Also save 2c - ozbargain spirit!
And go for a walk to lose the covid19 weight.
Pretty sure it's 19 because that's how many Kg's we all put on by the time this is over.

      • +1

Unfortunately no. It's called GameStop in the US.

Same price at JB Hi Fi - which is Aussie Owned.

  • "Sony's Days of Play sales event for 2020 will kick off this Wednesday, June 3rd and run through June 17th at 10am PT (1pm ET)."
    So..wait till 3am, June 4th?

    • +1

      It's updated now.

  • hmmm, I am beginning to suspect that there won't be any digital discount for PS+, reading through the website, they say it's up to 30% PS+ discount (and if you click on the buy option, it only shows JB and EB) and a separate one for digital "games"… Wonder if I should just use the 5% JB discount and get the PS+ that way…

    • JB discount code doesn't work with the PS+ subs..

      • Nooooo, there goes my $2.80… :p

  • +1

Price has updated on PS store now.

    • Thanks for updating, much appreciated. Been waiting for this!!

  • +1

I've been buying around this time the last few years. Usually wait for the last week because the last 2 years EB has offered socks with the PS+ purchase. That with the Suncorp EB gift card for 8% off went hard. Thought I think the gift card is down to 6% last I looked.

  • If I purchase this, will I still be able to get the Call of Duty Modern Warfare game for free on PSN?

    • Think you've got that confused with COD WWII which is free with PS+ this month

      • Sorry yes that is the one I wanted. Will it still be available to redeem?

        • +1

Yes. It's redeemable for the month, however you'll only be able to play it whilst being a PS plus subscriber. You'll lose access to any free games if your subscription stops.

  • Am I missing something? Still showing as $79.95 for me.

    • On your phone using a browser you have to fit the tiny 30% off banner at the bottom left towards the bottom of the page.

  • Me waiting for the PS5

  • The deal is now live

  • If you get a one year sub now, will that remain valid with your PS5 account, considering PS5 is launching this November ? Any one knows ?

    • It should do although we've heard nothing about PS+ for next gen.
