      They could always localise it.
      eg: The Canberra Trail
"You have died from left-wing propaganda pollution"…

    • Hah, came here to post dyssentary. An awesome classic.

      here lies
      peparony
      and chease

      I can't believe this game is 300mb.

From the reviews it sounds less "free" and more "freemium":

"They joined the ranks of the greedy an added a new currency you can buy with real money; in essence creating a caste system within the game."

"You need to buy money with real money now just to play the game and it's challenges and do well."

    • Yup GameLoft is now LameLoft… with most of their games using the freemium models! I bought a list of their games that I will NOT be updating, because it will turn a quality game into a rich-man's game!

  • I'm confused as to why these games are so large. I would understand 30MB, but 10 times this?

    • The HD graphics boosted the original 74MB into 300MB!

      • They should seriously start differentiating iPad from iPhone.

        • Actually from the keynotes, Apple encourages the developers to create their apps with universal compatibility in mind! That's the sucky part since most apps can't be download thru 3G (mainly games)

      • If they had done it right in the first place it would be SVG and there would be no size difference. Even if it was something pixel based like PNG, from what I can tell of the game there is still no good reason for this sort of size.

        • I agree, but there are a lot of detailed graphics and game developers have embarked on a sort of arms race to outshine each other. It's doubtful if vectors could have coped with the detail. At the very least, the Illustrator derived files would themselves have been large and complex to render.

It's the video game corollary of Parkinson's Law: "Data expands to fill the space available for storage"

PS3 Blu-ray based game are often massive and require hour long installs.

The thing is, such "beautiful" graphics are completely unnecessary to creating a compelling game: The Oregon Trail originated on the Apple ][ where it happily fitted on a 140K floppy…

Get rid of the graphics altogether and bring back Zork!
