  • The mango is now white??

Edit: oh different model. Whats special about this one?

    • Whats special about this one?

      It’s white.

    • +1

From a quick spec comparison it seems the mango has more grunt overall. (300mbps vs 150mbps and faster cpu too)

Perhaps this white one runs off less juice if that’s something you need.

Edit: The white has Atheros SoC vs MediaTek on the mango.

      • Correct Ar150 atheros, Mt300 mediatek.

As such you can run ddwrt on the Ar150 and there are Ar150 derivatives of things like Gargoyle Router and Wifi pineapple if that's what floats your boat.

If you just want a "standard" micro OpenWRT router then Mango is the go.

I do not think this is a good deal. The mango is a better product for around the same price.

    • Where could one find this "mango?"

      • +5

        Probably this:

        GL.iNet GL-MT300N-V2 Mini Travel Router, Repeater Bridge, 300Mbps High Performance, 128MB RAM, OpenVPN/Wireguard Client/Server https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B073TSK26W/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i…

        • Thanks for being helpful.

@ozhunter68: I use this as my main AP at home in repeater mode

C'mon jv, you can do better : )

    • Which one would be better for using my mobile phone data (as wireless hotspot) to provide a connection to other wireless devices?

      • It seems that various models of these support USB tethering if they have a USB A plug. If you go down the pictures on the Amazon page, it shows USB tethering and USB modems as an option.

The only other question is whether your phone supports USB tethering. Android is historically more friendly foot tethering.

You can also connect this box to your WiFi, i.e. WiFi repeater, and share that. You might have to Google how to do that, but I've done that on similar devices and it's not that hard.

        • Ah so my phone needs to be physically connected to this device using a cable?

  • +3

It's now $25 as a lightning deal btw. Can someone update the price?

  • Hey good people,
How do people who have bought this usually use it?

    • Main use case is LAN to wifi, you could probably do USB modem to wifi, and wifi repeater. You might be able add an extra USB mass storage device to your existing network.

Just information for anyone who cares.
I purchased this from this seller back in early March for $24.99

The reason I got this over the more powerful "mango" one is because this unit can flash DD-WRT, I prefer it over OpenWRT which this unit comes with by default.

For me, it's been problem free so far. Cheep powerful router for me. I don't use the WiFi function on this device.

    • I don't use the WiFi function on this device.

      what’s your use-case?

      • +1

I mainly use it as VPN server and site to site VPN

    • Is that means “mango” can’t be flashed?

      • mango version not compatible with DD-WRT. I am sure OpenWRT is just as powerful but I am used to DD-WRT and at the time, don't want to have to re-learn how to make VPN server working in OpenWRT (and other functions) as I was in a hurry for the "Work from home" thing…

        • "Work from home" thing…

wouldn’t that be RA VPN not S2S VPN (you wrote above)?

          • @AlexF: I use them both at the same time to connect to different sites. Can't notice any speed issue with this little thing

  • Please excuse my lack of networking knowledge but can this device be useful with in splitting a Telstra air free WiFi connection to multiple devices? Would it help in getting a better Telstra Air Signal?

Can it be used to make a wired printer be wireless?

Can this be used or connected with two mobile network sim plans that shape data and make the shaping speed faster because there is two and not one?

How does connecting to public WiFi make it more secure?

    Thanks.

  • Hi, can I connect the lan to wan of my current router to connect internet by 4g USB modem on this router?

    • +2

That's a very confusing question. I think you are asking if you can connect this to your USB modem and share it via Ethernet to an existing router. If so, the answer is yes. look at the pictures on the Amazon page.

      • Thanks for your answer.

        • The configuration would be USB modem in USB plug, Ethernet cable in LAN plug on this box, then into WAN plug on the other router. This will optionally also allow WiFi at the same time from either or both routers, but it's probably better to have just one so your signal from one doesn't clash with the signal from the other, unless one is 2.4GHz and the other 5GHz.

          • @rygle: Yeah, I’m gonna to close WiFi on this device, and want my all clients to connect existing router.

          • @rygle:

so your signal from one doesn't clash with the signal from the other, unless one is 2.4GHz and the other 5GHz.

it won’t - different SSIDs. If worried about congestion - that ship sailed - pretty much every smartphone is a hotspot, and every house is surrounded by multiple neighbours with APs.

            • @AlexF: I was talking about congestion. Yes, WiFi routers are a little bit smart to automatically pick a less congested channel, but why create more congestion by having two 2.4GHz base stations next to each other? And yes, phones can be hot spots, but must of the time they shouldn't be turned on for a variety of reasons, battery conservation not least among them.

  • Now $28.04 (2 hours left).

  • I'm sure it might have things to do with covid as well as the seller previously outlined but this amazon seller held my money for like a month promising it will be delivered, then again, then again, then said if not delivered within a week he will "give it to me for free" then eventually cancelled the order saying the package is "lost" (container "lost"). I'm sure a lot would have had a great product in ozbargain but I would be careful with this seller.

    • This item is fulfilled/shipped by Amazon and sent from Australia, you should have an Australia Post tracking number. If not you might have purchased the same item from a different seller.
