The Mijia fan is $89. No battery, if you actually need that. https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/xiaomi-mijia-smart-dc-pedestal-…

I got the Fan 2 (not 2S) in January for $89. Very quiet, and its handy setting it to come on/off around bed-time.

    • I've got one of each - the battery is very handy as the battery life is good - just disconnect from wherever you usually use it and take it anywhere… very tempted but I don't need it…

      • I'm torn between this and the Mijia. I'm just not sure if the battery mode is something I would use or not. It's cool, but do I need it. Hmmm

    I need a heater more than a fan…

    • You need to run the heater with the fan!

  • Bloody great fan

  • A good choice for up coming winter

I'm buying mine for inside clothes drying, as where I'm moving doesn't have much of an outdoor clothesline and I don't own or really want a clothes drier.

Then in summer it'll be handy for staying cool

What’s the difference to a $15 one from Kmart?

    • +4

DC powered vs AC powered. Uses a fraction of the electricity and is much quieter apart from Wifi features.

500 hours of use to consume 1kW/h they claim. What's that these days, about 35c ?

If these don't interest you, save yourself the money and get the Kmart one.

But I don't have any DC plugs in my house…

      $104

    • This question never gets old

  • How is it compare to the Premium DC Motor Pedestal Fan? https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/kogan-premium-dc-motor-pedestal…

I have one of these still in the box… I have 2 of the Xiaomi fans - main differences are the Xiaomi 2S has a battery and is a smart fan with app control - also the Xiaomi has a 'natural' mode whereby it varies the speed at a set program to make the fan feel like a natural breeze rather than a fan…

It's showing $130.99 when checking out with Kogan First for me, not $119. Not sure what's going on.

    $134.99 without Kogan First.

Why we should pay for the useless Kogan First?

    • Ah that sucks, I thought it was supposed to eliminate shipping costs. Waste of time then.

    • Letting you know there's now free shipping and the possibility of $99 delivered if you also got the targeted $20 credit.

      • No, they didn't fix it. After you applied the Kogan First, the website wrongly add the GST on the top of the price, made it $119+GST = $130.90 with fee delivery. But it's only $134.99 without Kogan First delivered. What's the point?

  • How is the quality

  • Is there a wall mounted version of this type of DC fan? am keen to find out to replace the wall fan in a room.

I have Xiaomi Pedestal Fan 2 for around 3 months, below is my opinion on this fan. (i believe 2s is similar + built-in battery)
    1. very light and smaller than most floor fan, very easy to move around.
    2. quality is decent even most of them is made from plastic.
    3. looks very nice and tidy.
    4. no remote but there is an apps that can control the fan.
    5. lowest setting blow very little air and very quiet, which good for at night that having some air moving around.
    6. highest setting blow decent air (not as much as my older model kogan premium dc fan, Kogan consume more power though)
    7. Oscillating angle setting can be set as 30, 60, 90, 120. I like this feature very much.
    8. timer off if this is important for some people

Don't buy this fan if you want the fan
    1. lowest price
    2. blow a lot of air, there are many cheaper option that can blow more air.

    • +1

On the last point, if fan diameter were 40cm instead of 30cm it wld blow a decent amount of air.

  • Does this have an AU plug built in? Or doesn't it need one cause it's battery powered?

How do you recharge the battery?

    • AU Plug comes in a separate delivery, but it is included.

  • Can anyone recommend any quiet tower fans?

Any way to know the wattage specs of this one particularly output of lower settings? I rely on small solar setup and looking for a fan to run overnight https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/kogan-premium-dc-motor-pedestal…

Thanks OP. Bought one with the $20 credit.

    • Nice, for $99 it's a bargain.

  • cheers grabbed 1

Ok so I received mine today… A lot smaller/compact in size compared to the original Kogan Premium DC Motor Pedestal Fan (not the current version with the fake ratings). Good for tight areas and keeping it out of sight.

Still not entirely sure about the app, maybe just need to get used the new ways of tech with apps controlling devices with wifi. Be keen to pick up a compatible remote though.

Been trying to search around to look for info on charging times on this thing. How long does it take for a full charge of this fan? It's a shame it doesn't have anything to tell you the battery status.

  • Damn, would be keen to grab one but I missed out on the free shipping code. Not sure if it's good to make use of kogan first trial just to get this? Are there frequent deals on kogan that I should save up the trial for instead of just getting this one?

  • Pretty good fan.

Annoyingly, Kogan didn't include the AU charging plug and it's a few days away according to Kogan.

It seems very inefficient to not bundle them and send at once from the AU warehouse.

Customer care doesn't seem too overly helpful either, it is what it is.

    • Apparently it's standard for them to ship separately. Why they can't streamline that process is odd.

      • Yep, I just spent a few emails arguing with them over this.

Seems very odd and not entirely impressed with their response to their procedure

  • Does anyone else encounter this as I have…

Only tested in a battery only scenario (haven't had the fan plugged into a power source). After the fan is powered off for a period of time, the app picks it up as "offline" therefore you can't simply power it back on with the app and need to physically power it on at the fan.

Is this the design and how it's meant to be?

    • +1

i think it may be designed that way to save battery while not on.

Have anyone received their charging cable yet? I got tired of waiting and found one lying around. It's very short though, and black. So it'll be nice to get the proper one. Funny how the fan came instantly but the cable is taking weeks.

    • Yeah I received the AU cable the next day of getting the fan… It's actually shorter than the original though!

      • Ah I was hoping it would be a bit longer. I might go buy a new figure 8 lead. I'm assuming Kogan has forgotten about me.

  • I too haven't received the charging cable. It's been close to three weeks.

I bought an adaptor and have been using that and now waiting for them to refund me for that.

Not too impressed with the cable not being included in the original packaging and not receiving it at all.

    • Yeah I ordered a cable and that's already arrived before Kogan could manage to send theirs.

Needlessly takes the edge off an otherwise steal of a deal.

At least I have a spare cable now, these things come in handy from time to time (like buying gear from Kogan!)…

  • So I used this fan as an aid to help create some air circulation in the kitchen in an effort to fan air towards the rangehood and kitchen window, whilst cooking steak and some other heavily fragrant Asian cooking… Somewhat helped I guess.

After a few times of use, I noticed that the fan components ended up with a layer of oily residue! Was not expecting that after a few nights worth of the aforementioned cooking!!!

Fortunately the fan is easily detachable and was easy to wash with detergent.

Got me wondering how a few nights worth of cooking gets the fan a layer of oil residue… Yuck!

Anyone else that's used for the same purpose experienced the same?

    • Maybe you need to start cooking outdoors, let the greasy fumes woft next door instead.

Yep, need to find me a Weber BBQ deal!
