  • How do we get the beta key? And is there a PS3 or Xbox beta?

    • +1

There is no need as it is open for everyone, just download and follow the install instructions

      • Awesome.

      • But not until 10PM?

      • I think you still need a beta key, presumably available via origin when you register. You should still be able to use the download thru 3FL. I am actually getting the download from http://games.on.net/file/45430/Battlefield_3_Open_Beta_Clien…

        • +1

this file is 3.4gb as opposed to the 7z file which is 3.1gb?

        • nice find, oh well 3.4 is smaller than 3.9 on 3FL :)

        • well this file does say updated 28/9 so maybe it does have extra content that will need to be updated via origin anyways?

        • EDIT: My bad, poor reading.

  • +5

Available now on the 360 :D

gee, is there a way to download it faster? Like a torrent link? I'm only dling it at 150KB/s. It won't be finish till midnight when I'm in bed!

    • Yeah same problem here, the speed is fluctuating between 100KB/s and 150KB/s.

    • I must have got in early… pulled it down at 5pm from games.on.net in just under 3min ^^

EDIT: Still seems to be very fast - probably worth trying that over the 3FL link for those starting the download now…

  • Can't wait. Finished the download in 45 minutes with IDM from Ausgamers.

    • Ausgamers have it already? So should be the same one from Origin?

      • Yep. Same one as everywhere just archived as a 7z file instead, should be extractable with winrar. See links below.

  • Great game, have been playing for the last two days. If you have played bad company 2 you will love it.

protip: don't prone at the back of your spawn sniping, it doesn't help

    • +1

      Thanks mate!

  • do you need xbox live gold member to play on 360? Or not, because its on EA servers?

  • +1

available now for the ps3 as well

    • how do you get it for ps3?

      • in the ps3 store

        • Awesome. Thanks for the heads up!

  • When I first started to dl from Ausgamers, I have over 3xxkbp/s but now down to 8x.

    Everybody downloading it now :(

    • i started dl'ing fr ausgamers but it was slow 2.5h so i went to internode and it took about 30min. i followed the instructions fr ausgamers but the origin program cant see the game in the bf3 folder :(

      • So is that mean the zip games didn't work?

      13PM ???

  • +1

iinet, westnet and netspace peeps can get it quota free from 3FL:

    http://www.3fl.net.au/downloads/file.php?id=4250

  • Can't seem to get much more than 100kB/s off either Internode, 3FL or Ausgamers servers.

    10 hour+ download, looks like I'll be playing tomorrow anyway… D:

  • +1

chyeah downloading it at uni at 2mbps = win :)

    • +2

chyeah downloading from ANU at 10Mbps, and that's considered slow.

ANU wireless speeds a few weeks back note it's 7th Sep 2011

Don't get me started on wired.

        touche.

  • +1

I started off with 'node but only getting 200kb/sec so I switched to this torrent:

    http://bit.ly/oHv07X

Started off slow but I stopped all other torrents and set my client to allow 500 connections =D Once I got enough seeds its now sitting at 650kb/sec =D

    Torrent was linked from here:
    http://www.reddit.com/r/battlefield3/comments/kskhg/please_t…

    • That torrent works well. Its fast! Cheers…….

  • Anyone care to upload this to a torrent site. You know, use them for a legitimate reason for a change? :)

    • +2

Oh, silly me. Found it on my favourite u##n## index :)

      2.0 MB/s, 3965MB in 30 mins thank you (TPG ADSL2+).

      • -7

        LOL Torrents..

  • -1

Apparently the 360 version looks better than the PS3.. Incase u have both.

PC would obviously be the best, if you've got a good graphics card that is.

  • 3FL is quota free for those using on iiNet and Westnet internet service and of course those using unlimited internet.

  • -6

lol why ruin a game just wait untill the game comes out =]

    • That is a beta test from EA.

      • To be fair, the Medal of Honor beta was HOPELESS. Let's see what this is like, love BF!

  • +1

To download from multiple mirrors, I think the Firefox extension Down Them All works great as a download accelerator/ manager.

  • Ha, http://store.origin.com/store/eaapac/en_AU/home/ is down…

    EDIT: Oh, back up.

  • Just get it from the Origin client, I'm getting full speed download (1.3MB/s for me) and the beta key is already there…

    • Agreed. Couldnt get the unofficial way to work myself anyway. Got great speeds from Origin, 40min or so.

  • Thanks, downloading @ 2.4MB/s - 2.5MB/s :D

    • What connection type?

  • Thanks to the guys that mentioned 3fl. We're on iinet because my housemate's work pays for it and I didn't even know about 3fl before this thread. Currently downloading at 1.6 MB/sec - thanks!

  • Bigpond Users Unmetered Download
    http://www.gamearena.com.au/downloads/details.php/battlefiel…
Anyone else can download it, It just counts towards your quota.

Note: Still slow even on 100Mbit Bigpond Cable Ultimate :( No 10-12 Megabytes Per Second

    • Mine is literally not downloading at all. The file has been downloaded almost 38,000 times from GameArena alone in just over 24 hours. Pretty ridiculous haha.

      • LOL what last time I checked it was only on 4000, My download connections went from 4 to 1 and now none. The server hosting it is getting flooded.

        • FlashGet is doing the trick. Downloading at about a 175kb/s. Oh well, at least I have tomorrow off! My uni work is never getting done…

      • yes rediculously slow off gamearena, only getting 235kb/s :s

        • You guys need to switch to the torrent mentioned above. Its maxing my DSL2+ connection at 700k/sec and there's PLENTY of seeds……

        • @busky2k Yeah I switched to the 3FL mirror and I'm getting between 500-1000kb/s

    • thanks for this. Smashing it down at a crazy 180kb/s on ultimate cable lol

  • I can't even DL using Origin because the store is down. LMFAO.

    • LOL, knew this was going to happen. Luckily I downloaded the Origin client and registered my details a few hours ago.

  • Downloading the PC and 360 versions, oh yeah.

    • Would be interested to see how they compare graphically.

      • PC should shit on 360, provided that the graphics card is better, of course. :P

      • I'll be doing that, but I'll eventually get BF3 on both.

PC for the optimal experience, 360 because I've got friends on it.

        • +3

I have this same problem, PC is much better for BF, but my mates all play 360.
But who really needs friends when they have screen space ambient occlusion?

  • Downloading at Max download rate 2500kb/s using http://premium.rpnet.biz/
to download from multiple filesonic links. There is plenty of mirrors using rapidshare wupload etc.

    • Sheeet totally forgot I have an rpnet account. Oh well I'm 1GB in now and sure as hell not starting again.

  • This game runs like shit on the Xbox. It's running at like 20 frames per second and looks no where near as good as the videos. I'm going to give the PC version a try, but things don't look good.

    • Read some were having trouble on the 360 version. Might just wait until release and only bother with the PC now.

      • I think EA has made an incredibly bad move by releasing the beta in such a state. CoD players will be looking for a different game to play and after seeing how poorly this performs, will not buy it.

        • +4

That's a good thing, cod kids don't understand the concept of teamplay based games. Plus, you can't 360 backflip noscope.

        • I'm happy about that. There are way too many kids + 'young men' swearing and being unnecessarily aggressive for an online game on COD. It is extremely sad…

  • Has anyone got this working yet. I did everything as said, it still does'nt appear in the list of 'my games' in origin. If i double click the BF3 icon, it wants me to enter my activation code…which i dont have

    • Same asking me for an activation code also!

    • +1

FOR THOSE WHO GET THE KEY ERROR

DL BF3 BETA/ DL & install Origin. > Unzip files > Place the install (BF3 Beta files) into the Origin games folder in C: > Close Origin > Re-open > Go to the free games tab > Click on download/install BF3 BETA

this gives you the free activation!

  • +2

Played it for about an hour on the PS3.. very buggy!!
when crawling I can see pass the ground, game pauses for a few seconds when I killed someone or getting killed.
Its still in beta stage so hopefully the full game will be better…

    • yep had the same thing to me about half hour ago. very slow load times too

    • Graphic wise, it was appalling for PS3. Gameplay is very fun though, can't wait for the real deal.

  • +2

Wow, just played an hours worth of it (PC). Absolutely amazing. Be warned though, this game is graphically intense!

    • How well does it run? Don't think my 5850 is going to cut it at 1080p reso.

      • +2

My 5850 runs it on 1680x1050 on high @ 60fps

      • 5970 with Ultra settings - 1920x1080p @ 120Hz, somewhat smooth in closed areas, can be quite choppy in open areas. Still definitely playable, but I don't like inconsistency of frames so I'd probably lower the settings down to High or Medium, though I have a feeling open areas will still put a strain on my card.

        • You shouldn't be having choppy fps with a 6970, did you get catalyst 10.7?

      • 6950 ultra settings, HBAO on, 4x MSAA,post-process high @ 35FPS average. Playable I guess.

      • You definitely don't really need a super high end system to run it. i5 750 @ 3.8 w/ stock 5770. Getting 30-35 fps on all full High with 1920x1080

    • overclocked q6600 processor and overclocked gtx 460. 1920x1080 on ultra @40 fps. good enough for me

  • +3

People with Nvidia graphics cards should update to the 285.38 driver as it was updated for the bf3 beta.

  • -1

Anyone who thinks this is buggy probably hasn't coded anything. I think it's great esp one month before release!

  • stopped the download lastnight and started again now, 3.5mb from bigpond gamearena :)

  • Downloaded the game through Xbox Live last night - took 45 min. Played for two hours on Multiplayer, absolutely love it. Excellent game.

  • anyone able to connect to 360 version?

  • Running everything on ultra and getting smooth fps. My comp is pretty average.
    i5 3.3 ghz
    amd 6900
    4gb ram

The only thing I've noticed so far is a lot of screen tearing.
Also how lame is it that you have to download ANOTHER content downloader ie origin vs steam and then install some addon into your browser to launch from that. :S
