    • This is scotch fillet the other post is rump.

      • The other post is Scotch Fillet 9+ for $100/kg.
        And Rump for $39/kg

  • After watching MasterChef seems I need a hibachi… 😂

  • Just ordered my first wagyu ever.

Looking for cooking recommendations for those who has cooked this thickness on a gas Weber, what's your cooking time and heat level for a medium rare?

  • Halves anyone? South Melbourne area

    • I think it's out of stock? Just tried ordering but it says ' Products marked with *** are not available in the desired quantity or not in stock!' and yes, I've logged in.

      • ah damn ok, it just hasn't been marked expired yet on the deal.

        thanks for heads up

edit: just tried also logged in, confirm it's sold out. Was gonna jump right in when deal first hit but being sold out is probably a good thing for weight & cholesterol lol

  • A better cut and more tender than Porterhouse version. For $20 each is worth every penny. But if full price, no.

  • Got mine today and cooked some on my new cast iron skillet. Marbling and fat is good but to be honest it wasn't melt in your mouth quality. I've had non wagyu that has been better. Cooked mine 2.5 mins each side on my smoking hot pan. Will try 2mins each side next time.

    • I've actually been reading more about aaCo. I'm not sure if their grading actually follows the MBS score system. I hope someone can correct me, but it seems just like their name "Kobe Cuisine," their scoring system might be on the same grey area… There is no where on their original packaging (google search), where a AA7+ = MBS7+. They don't even mention MB scoring. Just their own scoring on their AA scale.

Only reason this deal is done as MBS 7+ is because that is what this butcher or us interpret their AA system as - an equivalent to the MBS score system. This might not neccesarily be correct.

I've been questioning this since getting my Porterhouse from the last deal.. I've seen MBS 5+ with better marbling so I'm really not sure now…

      • Definitely not paying $57 for this steak. But for $20 happy to try.

        • +1

          Just got my steaks.

Marbling is much better than the last Porterhouse deal.

Steaks are not frozen, came in cooler bag with ice pack.
          Steaks are vacuumed sealed.

I would rate these 7+ marbling so very happy with this.

  • Got my order and will try to cook today. They delivered it one day earlier than what I scheduled and did not pack the meat in a foam box as requested. Thanks god I was home because they messed up delivery date.

  • Just tried my steak, it's nice and beautiful on par with Costco wagyu, Costco one is thicker which is better to slice thin on hibachi. Will buy again for this price not more…

    my order arrived today!

marbling looks pretty darn good, as for the taste, will soon find out

going to eat like a king for a while

    • those looks a lot better than what I received + yours is red!

  • I just received my order. None of the steaks had use-by dates on them. I shouldn't judge before I've cooked them but they don't look awesome. The quality of the other items I added to the order looks better!

    • Photo?

      • No, and too late now (most are in the freezer).
Aside from the colour which is explained with the vac sealing), they were all really different shapes and didn't look like a normal scotch shape (one was a rectangle and another a semi-circle). Some had very thick fat bands around the edge (the type of steak I would avoid if buying in a shop because the fat just gets thrown away so it's a waste).
That all said I don't regret buying them, I enjoyed mine last night.

    • i spoke too soon (I have had a lot of bad experiences with vac sealed meats being smelly and unpleasant when opened so I had low expectations).
The steak definitely wasn't worth full price but it was delicious.

  • Can anyone confirm if they received shipping details? I'm waiting for my order to be delivered today but have not received any shipping information.

    • +2

No you won't receive anything. They'll just turn up.

  • Cooked my second lot today. 2mins each side on a smoking hot caat iron is all it needs max. 5 mins resting on a plate. Still not as great as I hoped for as I've had non wagyu that was more tender. However the fatty flavour is excellent.

  • Received my order today, as mentioned no use by date and alot of juice / blood in the packaging. Meat is a bit brownish as well not red. Does anyone know how long they last?

    • The meat appears brown because it is vacuum sealed. It turns red when it reacts with oxygen

    • I contacted the seller. They said that they cut and vac seal them the day before sending, and to use within a week or freeze (and emphasised to defrost slowly in fridge).

  • Received mine today as well. As others pointed out, a bit brownish but as specks mentioned, it should turn red when it reacts to oxygen (hopefully). Also, I didn't get the cooler bag sadly.

Now that ive actually tried them, here is my personal opinion

Compared to higher end kobe a5 wagyu (that ive now had twice)

    Out of 5
    Meat Taste: 3.5-4
Could notice the lack of depth in the meat, but still was very nice

    Fat Taste: 3.5-4
Wagyu is all about the fat, and it was good, 10 times better than any angus beef, but should blow your socks off, but didnt

    Tenderness: 4.5
Almost as tender as the best best stuff, the top quality stuff you can tear apart with chopsticks, this wasnt quite that , but surprisingly not far off

for $66 per kg, well worth it, definitely not worth $190kg that they quote full price,
max id pay for this is about 80-90 per kg
