    "killer wifi"

you saw it first here guys wifi kills, its not a conspiracy theory

    • +1

can't wait until they start building 5G connectivity in.

  • -1

These have tiny HDD space for the price.

    • +2

      Nah it's about right.

      • -5

1TB? I'm expecting 16GB RAM and at least 8TB of space… but that's just me.

        • -1

correct. or for me i feel if spending $2k should get me 1TB SSD not HDD

  • How long is this deal going for?

  • +3

I bought this at the last deal.

For those concerned about temperatures - Temps are within Intel specified range but I still think its a tad high for what I'm used to — will replace it with a proper cooler. And stock fans get loud (I believe they are the Dell server ones from what I've read). I'll eventually replace those too with Noctua ones.

Gaming wise, its great - high FPS in majority of games I play at 3440x1440 Alienware AW3419 (Overwatch/WoW/CoD/Warframe/NBA 2K20/Skyrim/Shadow of the Tomb Raider/Project Cars 2).

Definite upgrade over my old box.

    • +2

CPU fan upgrade looks almost mandatory - Forums suggest this, which is only $32 delivered I guess.

      • +1

Yeah I ordered the CM TX3, just waiting for M3 screws/nut brackets to arrive from Amazon.

        • +1

Same here! M3's arrived today :D

  • This Techfast deal seems to be $200 cheaper still with a 2070 Super - good for those who just want to game and don't need such a beefy CPU and/or already have their own big HDD storage.

Incorrect. By the time you change specs to:

Better motherboard to support NVMe ($99 upgrade)
      SSD -> NVME ($79 upgrade)
      Add 1TB HDD ($89 upgrade)
80+ Gold PSU $89 upgrade (Dell use 80+ gold in the system)
Windows 10 home license ($169 upgrade)
      Keyboard & Mouse ($25 upgrade)

Techfast's price is $2549 without a WiFi+ Bluetooth 5 card (can pick one up for ~$80):

      • +1

You know what, you're right. Didn't realise Dell had put an 80+ Gold PSU or an NVME and this. Go for the Dell.

    • Base TF model price is good until you upspec it, thats where they start making their money.

Suddenly it ain't a 'bargain' anymore.

  • Does anyone know what brands they are offering for components?

Incredible price, but there must be something dubious going on with brands..

    • +3

They're all usually OEM parts, nothing pretty to look at etc but same performance.

These are definitely more suited to someone who wants to plonk a PC down and play games.

    • -2

I feel like if you bought a 9700k the day the 10700k came out to save a a small amount of cash, that would be dumb. Oh wait this one isn't even unlocked.

  • +2

Thanks Op, purchased. Now, will it Hackintosh;-)

  • +3

Question from a complete computer ignoramus: would this be a functional set up for running software like Autocad and other drafting/design software in a home-office sense, as well as some hobby music production, photo and video editing on the side. The first is for my wife, the second is for me. If not, anything else on OzBargain worth a look. Want to come in sub 2K if possible.

    • +3

      will smash all of that

      • +1

smash is an understatement. A $1k computer would smash those tasks

    • +1

Probably overkill for your use tbh.

  • For those that got the last deal… Is it a single 16GB DIMM? Might need some more. Is the HD 3.5" or 2.5"? Might have to start looking for some more SSDs, 2TB MX500 I'm thinking. I have a 512GB 970 Pro, so maybe an NVME to PCIe card (Hackintosh boot). Better start looking at some good ray traced titles too… FS 2020 looks interesting.

    • +1

      2x 8gb RAM sticks.

      HD is 3.5"

  • Could someone please recommend a good value 25-27" monitor to go along with this PC, that would take advantage of its specs, but not be too expensive? Something under $500 would be preferable.

Also, is the fan upgrade (and extra ram) essential? I will probably play Cyberpunk when it comes out, plus games like Witcher 3, modded Skyrim, Fallouts etc.

    Thank you :)

I bought this one - not an awesome deal or anything like that, but will suit my needs and seems to have decent reviews.

      https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/AOC-27G1-75-27-1920-x-1080-16-9-…

Order on May 16 and it arrived on May 27. Meanwhile the Dell machine I ordered on May 1, that was supposedly shipped on May 7 is nowhere to be seen. :/

      • +1

Thank you for the recommendation, I appreciate it! I'll check it out… price looks good :)

Hope your machine turns up ASAP!!

        • Thanks - me too! :P

        • Not sure if you'd want a 1080p screen, this machine will be able to handle higher resolution. Personally I just ordered this Kogan one: https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/kogan-27-curved-qhd-144hz-frees…

Not sure if it is any good though. Haven't seen any reviews.

          • @QuiOui: Yeah, I'm sure there are better options out there, but I'm gonna give the AOC a go to start with and potentially upgrade to something better (like the LG GL850) when availability and pricing gets a bit better.

After my experience with this G5, I recommend a CPU cooler upgrade as the CPU does run hot at times (I finished changing mines over to CM TX3 yesterday). I also added my other MX500 SSD from my old PC to this computer - ensure you have spare SATA cables as this doesn't come with spares.

RAM is plenty, but always get more - Crucial RAM is recommended in the Dell forums. I'll probably look around for sales now that it's June and go to 32Gb for my usage.

      • Yup, already got a CM TX3 and extra stick of Crucial Ram ready to go in. Will consider a Noctua case fan as well if the stock one turns out to be a source of noise. Just need the actual PC to turn up now… :p haha

      • Does this come with 2x8Gb? If I want to upgrade to 32Gb RAM will I need to buy another 2x8Gb or should I just get 1x16Gb?

  • This doesn't seem to be working anymore, but the discount is still advertised, so I'm not sure what's going on…

  • Noticed a few people having to upgrade the cooler on this. I have an old gem of a heatsink - Thermalright Ultra Extreme 120 from 10 years ago.
Is it possible to get that onto this i7 9700?

    http://www.thermalright.com/product/ta-120/

  • I recently bought one of these. Does anyone else have problems with the keyboard? It doesn't detect the space bar when holding shift+w. Funnily enough it does work with shift+(a or s or d) or just w. I can't run forward and jump!

  • This deal has expired. Update it please!

  • Thought this was a laptop and was almost tempted haha.

  • FYI, if you need accurate tracking use Option 2 from your Ebay Order update email.

    "Option 2:
    a. Visit our Global Shipping portal using this link: https://dellpleportal.dbschenker.com.au/ETA/ETAquery
    b. Enter your Dell Order Number uploaded in your eBay order that starts with 87XXXXXX and the captcha shown in the box, then click submit."

Using Option 1 from Dell says it's still "shipped" whereas the second option shows it's been delivered.

My G5 got delivered today! The day I'm not Working from Home! LOL
