Anyone know if this can be used without Foxtel service Contract. I'm pretty I've read on Ozbargain that you just need a Foxtel Account. Can someone please confirm this is correct. Really would like this for AFL & Disney plus.

Thanks to all in advance for your response.

Cheers :-)

    • Any Android update yet?

Good alternative is the Vodafone TV at $72

      • The Vodafone TV's latest version of Android TV uses Android 9 and the Android 9 security patch from December 2019 (Linux Kernel 4.9.113)

        • The Vodafone TV's latest version of Android TV uses Android 9

If buy it now should be Android 9? It can be use as a normal Android TV Box, right?

  • The webpage shows 79$

Yep can use without Foxtel paid subscription, you just need to have an account.

Looks like Dick Smith/Kogan have it for $55

    • Kogan was charging $59 just recently so that's where the deal is at.

  • "A Foxtel Now account is required to set up and access the box and a Foxtel Now subscription is required to watch Foxtel content."

$55 here. And there's a free shipping coupon on page.

  • Anyone know if this can be used without Foxtel service Contract.

Once you have logged in to the Foxtel Now Box for the first time (you can just use the 10 day trial), you can then use all apps and the FTA tuner etc, regardless if you have an active Foxtel Now account.

Even better, you can now login using your satellite / cable details if you have Multiroom or Multiscreen.

    • Does that mean you can login with Foxtel go details?

      • +1

        Yep.

        • Thanks for your help!

    • Do you know how this works on the device count? Multiroom is 2 devices but you also get 5 mobile devices. If you use your satellite account details, do you know how or which device type it uses?

      • +1

Yep - it will take up one of the five slots.

        • So it arrived today…. I can confirm, you CAN NOT use your Foxtel Go details for this. It requires a Foxtel Now subscription.

I'll have to try on a multiroom account, think that might work but not on a regular Foxtel account.

          • @jaymzrsa: To clarify, you need to "unlock" the box using a Foxtel Now account (you can use the 10 day free trial), and then you can use your satellite / cable details if you have Multiroom or Multiscreen (which I have been doing since February on my Foxtel Now Box).

            • @kirt: Thanks, I'll give that a go. Thanks

@kirk, I take it all back and you are quite right. It won't allow you to setup the box without a Foxtel Now account. I setup the 10 day trial and then did the ol' switch-a-roo and worked the treat.

In my best Cary Elwes voice, I shall never doubt again.

I got one of these bundled with foxtel now. I don't know whether my experience is in line with other users as I have never spoken to someone with one but it's a bit of a buggy mess. It regularly freezes and has to be unplugged to restart, and the volume control doesn't work at all - changing on the device has no impact on volume, and sometimes when its at full volume no sound comes through - reducing and then increasing volume fixes this.

I've made sure I'm on latest firmware and my internet connection is solid on all other devices so i doubt that's the cause of the freezes.

On the plus side it's a good cheap way to get chromecast, access to google store for games, movies and TV. It has integrated youtube and easily connects to Netflix (although I use the latter through my TV as it comes preinstalled and with a shortcut button on remote).

Overall it depends what you want it for, but I'd probably just pick up a chromecast if I knew what I know now and was not using it for Foxtel.

It crashes more than freezes on my box. Agree with the buggy volume issue.

Also, had to downvote because it's cheaper and w/ free delivery at Kogan as mentioned in the comments. Remove downvote if the deal gets changed from JB to Kogan.

  • Can i use my foxtel go login on this for my parents to use?

    • If you've got multiroom then yes, my dad has the main foxtel and I and a friend share the other 2 multiroom passes on the foxtel now box's.

Effectively we split the costs in thirds.

Vodafone TV is probably better for similar cost

  • This is a great box if you want Foxtel channels mixed with free to air all in one menu. More of a seamless unit then say the Vodafone box

The single most buggy device I've used in years. I've had 4-5 other media players, this thing stands out on its own. Roku the best.

    • ^ This.

Roku 3 by far the most stable of media players I've ever owned.
      Terrific little box.

      • Where to buy Roku 3 & does it have Kayo for AFL?

Thanks & all the best :-)

  • Thank you for this post, I purchased from Kogan.
