Anyone Work with Lotto?

Possibly not quite the correct area, but anyone work with lotto, or at newsaget or what ever?

I was curious about the scan things you can self check your ticket with.
Is there a certain amount that it wont tell you the prize or anything?

does it say see staff?

weird one one i know

Thanks!

If you have Android you can download their app and scan them yourself…although if you have the app you could also just buy the tickets in the app.

  • I have often wondered the same (secretly hoping to have that 'problem').

I would hope it doesn't fire off neon lights that say You have won $Nn,nnn, nnn, but rather a discreet 'Please contact your local Lotteries Administration'.

Newsagents who sell tickets are told not to tell the winner if they cannot deliver the news privately, and if someone checks their ticket on a machine it will simply tell them to contact the office and arrange a visit to the winners' room, but not the exact amount.

Youtube has some current affair pieces from the USA about corner store operators scanning the tickets for customers, noticing it's a winning ticket, and telling the customer 'sorry, no win'. Then the ticket is cashed out by staff. Check the numbers yourself or scan them while you hold the ticket. Never give it to someone else.

I'm 99.99999% sure you'll never win big, but it doesn't hurt to be careful.

A fellow ozbargainer won big not so long ago. Enough to buy a property and to worry if women only want him for his money kind of big. But yeah, statistically…

Can't answer for unregistered players but I recently won $8,500. I used the self service scanner. The scanner said 'go to counter' or something similar. The counter staff could not tell me how much I had won. I had to check the results or check online as a registered use.

Lotto agents can only give winnings over the counter up to $1,000.

@ Cluster. Thats why you need to be registered. You can't collect winnings without your card.

    • If you won $8500 why are you still on Ozbargain?

        Umm. Why not?

        • How much would you need to win to quit your day job, assuming you have one?

            @[Deactivated]: A lot more than $8,500!

            • @Seraphin7: I was wondering how much one would need to win to quite his job , buy property and start to question whether the women in his life are gold diggers.

              • @[Deactivated]: I wasn't wondering this - but I am now
                Calculations
                40 years to live - average $200K p.a. = $8M (That won't be much in 30 years)
                Travel - $25K p.a modest = $400K
                Pay off debts etc $200K
Give the kids some one day + mad money - say $10M should cover it well
Allow for some ROI over time compounding then may only need $5M?
Less if you keep working or buy some actual high yield investment
Less again if you party like a rock star and don't live 40 years to enjoy it
Or more if they perfect consciousness transfer (altered carbon - resleeving) in the next 3 decades

Of course anyone who gambles a lot to win may well blow it not conserve it anyway

                • @Noblejoker: Someone resigned from his job after winning a measly $800k :

When asked how he planned to enjoy his division one fortune, the man said he’d already mapped out his dream retirement.

“I’m in desperate need of a holiday,” he said.

“And I’ll have plenty of spare time to slow down as soon as I quit my job.

“I’m just going to sit back and relax.

“I want to buy house and just go fishing.

“I think golf will be my new hobby!”

                • @Noblejoker:

                  average $200K p.a

You mean there will be years that you gonna need 300k? lol

  • Thanks for the info
