  • is this 1080p res?

    • i think it's 1366x768

  • Is this with the $129 cash back they mention on their website or can you apply the cash-back afterwards?

    • Never mind lol

  • -3

Note that the price doesn't include warranty. A minimum 2 year warranty costs another $119 :S

    Good buy, almost…

    • :S It says "This item is covered by the Manufacturer's warranty." under the warranty tab so I figure that'd be the standard 1 year warranty.

      • Ah I see. I will try to clarify it with them because if it does come with the 1 year warranty I'll grab it :D

        • +4

All items sold in Australia have a one year statutory warranty.

  • +2

wow! this was $799 (after cashback) just two weeks ago
    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/52892
i might have to wait for few more weeks or this is it?

  • +2

Pretty sure it's mandatory law that items have 12 months warranty.

    • -7

      No.

      • +6

You do have statutory right though.

        • -3

          Citation? For how long?

        • +1

afaik its for however long a reasonable person would expect a $799 laptop to last. For me I'd say around 2-3 years. Maybe different for you though.

        • -6

That is ridiculous, no way that is right.

        • +3

          http://www.consumerlaw.gov.au/content/Content.aspx?doc=home.…

@TPH, you need to understand that the "reasonable person" part would be interpreted/determined by your state FT or the ACCC! Iplau is absolutely correct, I would expect a minimum of 2-3 years from a $799 lappy as well…given that the average lifespan is somewhat higher in reality…, now if you're happy to settle for less, then more fool you! ;)

        • +3

This is why you should NEVER buy extended warranty.

        • +13

I initially read that as "Herpes should last 20 years"

        • LMAO.

  • Looks like a good deal.

        • +1

          It's just a typo.

Scroll down a little and you will see the processor model listed as i7-2630qm.

Do a quick search on intel's website and you'll realise that there isn't an i7-630qm

    • There is no CPU by the name of 630QM.

Seems quite obvious that the "2" was omitted.

  • So I am confused is it 2nd gen or 1st gen…. Is it a good deal? Seems like a good deal to me.

  • Wow! Lol

  • +1

    Do you trust Acer?

    • +1

Acer Australia support is pretty good, I vouch for it

      • I would disagree, but that is just my experience. If there is a fault that is not related to hardware like dodgy drivers you are on your own, unless you pay per minute for assistance.

Generally how ever Acer products are built really well

  • +1

is it a good deal or not?

    • +1

It's a good deal. Current generation quad core, mid-high end graphics card.

1366*768 resolution may be a deal breaker for some though.

      • +2

Big deal, connect it to your 1080 tv anytime you want to watch something HD. you won't need 1080 for general use/web browsing. I doubt this would be the first choice for gamers either.

        • +9

I need my porn to be 1080p when I am out of town, i need clarity when I am on the toilet.

        • +2

It may very well be the first choice for a gamer on a $800 budget. Or anyone on a budget who does GPU/CPU intensive tasks.

Plenty of people cannot/do not have/want an external monitor and having one defeats half the purpose of a laptop, if it's even present when you're doing your laptoppy things.

I was more referring to screen real estate than size for video playback anyway. 768p to me feels constrained for reading and word processing.

          That and the porn.

        • +1

          Touche.

        • +1

Why the negs? Are people mistaking 'touché' for 'douche'?

        • +1

Nope; I mistook ThePistonHead for a douche.

        • I think it's best not to pollute new discussions with grievances carried over from other discussions, unless it's somehow related to the topic or behaviour at hand.

        • He was quick to shoot down someone else's opinion and assert his own as 'fact'. How is he to know if 1366x768 is suited to someone's needs or not? For me, 1366x768 on a 15.6" screen is definitely not enough.

        • +1

I would say that is a far better expression of disagreement than simply calling him/her a douche. And in fairness, he later acknowledged the points made by the very person he shot down.

With that said, i agree with you. I am disappointed by the stagnation of most 15.6" displays at 1366*768.

  • Damn, only if it was full hd and had a bluray player woulda been awesome.

    • +8

and a magic flying pony, that would be awesome!

  • Might go into the WoW store near me and have a look. Very tempting though!

  • Very good deal.

  • I just purchased one. Thanks a lot, Was looking for a nice deal for a i7 with 2GB Graphic ! Plus the 2nd Gen i7. This is GREAT Value for $670 after cash back! Thanks
    ALOT!

  • Any ideas if HN or DSE carry the same unit?

  • +1

OK, I'm seeing the price now as $1,129.00

    • +1

Yep, their front page still says $799, but the item says $1129.

      Flipping my vote.

      • Oh, come on. Give it time to update. The product page most likely automatically switches back to that figure after a certain number is sold.

        • +1

Why? They either have them at the listed price, or they do not.

At $1129 it is a reasonable price, but not a bargain.

They deserve a neg just for stuffing around.

        • +1

It's a Sunday. I don't think they have a web guy sitting around all day waiting to update the home page immediately after the deal has expired.

      • +1

under 'mailer deals' it does say: Valid Online only until 02/10/2011 midnight or while stocks last.

  • +1

    back to $1,129.00

  • +1

Is the price back up to 1,129??

  • Wtf? That sucks!

  • +1

yeah confirmed through to checkout that price has changed to $1,129 - $129 cashback = $1,000

  • So did anyone buy one for $799?

    • Definetely did! $670* after cash back..

  • Yeah I did of course :)
    Guessing they had limited stock.

This model was not available from anywhere else that I could find
JB had a similar model with 8gb ram and is was around $1150

I hope some others got the benefit too.

  • Wow I may have been the person to get the last one. I bought mine just a few minutes before everyone started posting about the price increase. I have been thinking about a new laptop for a while after this poor asus machine's left hinge exploded earlier this year. Sorry if I ruined it for some people though, lol!

  • -8

    Bait and switch, no good.

    • +1

What are you talking about? It's a deal that has expired.

      • It doesn't make sense if they still have the item in stock yet they change the price of the item based on the demand after promoting it for a special price.

    • Now that the OP has explained the situation, I would like to retract this comment.

  • -2

Heaps of laptops with similar specs for similar prices around the place at the moment.

Grays has heaps of HP's with buy it nows from $650.

  • Still on special!!!! I bought one of these yesterday for this special price with cashback offer too
at WOW Sight & Sound store….3-Day Sale…ENDS TODAY!!!!

  • +1

I just added one for $799 into my cart online…
    I think it's back

  • +2

Sorry to those who tried to grab one yesterday afternoon and the price had jumped back up. Someone tripped over a power lead ;-)

Price is back to $799 until midnight tonight!

    • Is this deal online only?

      • Also available in-store until close today.

        • is there anymore cashback?….the cart does not auto update

      • Wierd you say that. I called the Canberra store this morning to ask if I could come down and pick up the bargain. There responce was "Sorry the online store is held by a different department. We have nothing to do with this and no pick-up is allowed, The deals online are exclusive to Online and not in store"…… !

So I brought online. Any chance it was sent today?

  • Just bought one @$799 woot!

  • Going and getting one today!

    • Which one is better for gaming? I know that generally larger memory means better performance, but sometimes it's not the case.

      • +1

This one is slightly better, with the GT540M being marginally better than the HD6570M.

  • Thank you just ordered one @$799.

  • Looks like a good deal; got a couple of questions: could anyone estimate the battery life? What is the deal with the 'cashback' - from the link on the wow website it appears to be in the form of an 'acer cash card' - is this useable as an ordinary eftpos/debit card? Thanks to any who take the time to answer!

  • Thanks OP!
    Edited
