    Nothing beats Tiger.

    • +9

Yes, but Tiger is x3 times the price. Not really comparable

    • +13

      Cucko zijorushi does

      • +2

You're so cruel, you burst someone's bubble.

      • Where to get the Japan made Zojirushi rice cookers now that Amazon US isn't sending to Aus?

        • Amazon AU, obviously.

          • -2

@O O: Made in China, obviously

            • @generalbaz: Fair enough, it is sent from Japan, but it's not obvious enoght to show if it is made in Japan in the listing.

How about this one, it clearly stated Made in Japan, but I'm still not sure if all the parts are Japan made.

          • @O O: oh what, are their bottles made in china too

    • +9

The Panasonic ones are actually really good for the price and have a lot of the same features and principles of Tiger etc.

    • -3

You must be joking… That is the basic model, check SR-SPX series

      • I donโ€™t believe you can get the Panasonic SR-SPX series here in Aus though. Even if you can, it will definitely not be at the price point of $110.25. (And I didnโ€™t neg you)

        • in answering "Nothing beats Tiger." (Don't care Neg, we live among negative people LoL)

          • +2

@dlovep: I've got more negs than you (a couple of posts down) - probably from people not realising that the original post was different. The irony is that OP gave my comment a positive vote and changed the post as a consequence.

    • You say that but the one I bought isnโ€™t that good. I use it as per instructions and it leaves the bottom of the rice a bit brown and crispy (not burnt but overcooked). Is this normal?

      • Same. Bought one in Costco and would be returning soon. Buying something cheaper.

    • +2

My Made in Japan Tiger JAX-S18S just blew up itself less than 3 years use, the fume even blacked the lid joint. For the last three years, I didn't find the rice cooked by Tiger was better than any other brands. I find all those hypes about the new technology using on inner pot, heating, etc, just marketing gimmick. Rice cooker is rice cooker, it's not rocket science. Just buy an average rice cooker will do, like this one.

      • Yeah my one just broken down today stuck on timer no longer respond to buttons.

    • Not worth the price. Recently tiger broken within 3 years mark

  • -4

"Almost half price"… you sound like a salesperson. It's basically 40% off rather than almost 50%.

    • +3

      Corrected to the right %๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

  • +1

@ca6bleguy Sure, only when you can afford a Tiger, which is more than double the price of this one.

    • And the rest

  • Do these have a teflon inner pan?

    • +1

      yes

  • Is it Japanese?

    • My sr-ze105 was made in Thailand not sure
      Where this is made though

    • Panasonic is a japanese company. Its hard to get info on if they make all these in japan itself or some chinese factory.. I wish I knew where this kinda information was

      • +1

Usually on a sticker on the cooker itself. Sometimes the box.

        • +1

for "Made in Japan" they printed on the rice cooker itself and box, never a sticker.

          • +1

@dlovep: Because it's a good selling point now.

    • +3

      Made in China.

  • +4

Bought one, thanks OP! The lower-end model is also discounted https://www.amazon.com.au/Panasonic-SR-DF101WST-Rice-Cooker-โ€ฆ although I don't think it's an all time low. I've had the DF101WST for about 6.5 years now and it's been pretty good, not as good as Zojirushi/Tiger but vastly cheaper, overall I think Panasonic is a much better value proposition

    • I got that one too just now. It's a good price. The normal price for DF101 used to be $89-$99 at TGG/HN when I was interested late last year, but recently, due to our weak dollar, it's hard to find it under 100 anymore (same as Xiaomi, which is my first option on similar price range, it increased by about $30 too)

Also, take note guys that the Breville 'The Rice Box' is highly rated by Choice, and is $99 at Myer for the 10-cup version which isn't a steal, but it's everyday price is low.

    • -4

Not comparable to Tiger I think, not by resale value, or quality. Choice is very biased I think.

      • +4

Choice is biased, unlike your opinion ๐Ÿ™„

        • Oh nice, thanks for the tip. I have been using the rice box for a few years and it's a winner. Looks like the newer one has a few extra features too.

    • +1

Thereโ€™s a newer version that costs a bit more. Smart rice box. Just got that, cooks rice great

  • Damn! Missed out on this.
Anyone have similar deals or can recommend anywhere to buy a Cuckoo one?! Read some reviews and they seem pretty good (as is Tiger/Zojirushi too)

    • +3

Try Korean grocery shops in Melbourne like KT Mart. But you will be shocked by price tags…

  • Pressured rice cooker is way better than this kind. But the price is pricy… Thats the problem.

    • when is money never a problem?

  • +1

Have this, cant leave rice in there or else it will overcook and there dry out the cooked rice.

I find it best practice to turn it off when it is done and put a paper towel or cloth to absorb excess moisture inside the machine if you cbb taking out the cooked rice.

    • i have the same problem that keep warm will dry the rice after few hours on a difference model of Panasonic rice cooker. Had Zojiroshi before which able to keep warm for 2-3 times longer without drying the rice. But Zojiroshi is much more expensive.

  • I've never owned a rice cooker, so genuine question: what does a rice cooker do better than someone who knows what they are doing can do on a stove top with a pot?

    • +1

This question is asked in nearly every rice cooker post. You will find lots of information in previous posts.

    • +1

like. a washing machine or dishwasher,
load it up, press a button, walk away,
      keeps rice warm for hours,
or schedule for rice to be ready at a desired time. 6am, 6pm, whatever.

  • 10 cups model available but cost $36

  • -1

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/6543150/redir

    They were much cheaper
Should target $50-60 range for a Panasonic not made in China. Japan made preferred.

    • Mate, that's different model and it's 2018 comment too, can't compare. Even 3-4 months ago, this one was way lower, but it increased a lot due to our dollar being weakened

  • +1

I just bought the 5 cup Panasonic Sr df101 for $110 is now $80. I will never recover from this.

  • Which one of these models is better, OPs one or this one?

    • Theyre the same model but different cup sizes (your link is for 10 cups instead of 5)

  • I've seen some older models have Made in Japan printed on the rice cooker themselves but not sure about this unit or current model panasonic cookers in the last few years. Would be interested if made in jap as need a new one

    • +1

Itโ€™s made in China. The fourth pic in the link shows the back of the rice cooker. The sticker has Made in China printed on it.

  • Good thing about induction is it can cook rice really fast

  • +1

I've been using this rice cooker for the past year and it's been great. Once you work out how it cooks and adjust water accordingly, the rice comes out as it would a Tiger brand one (which my parents own). Haven't had any issues with browning or overcooking after it has finished cooking.
