The problem is not overpolicing, it is policing itself

Recent years have seen an explosion of protest against police brutality and repression. Among activists, journalists and politicians, the conversation about how to respond and improve policing has focused on accountability, diversity, training, and community relations. Unfortunately, these reforms will not produce results, either alone or in combination. The core of the problem must be addressed: the nature of modern policing itself.

  • Lucky we don't have too many looters here.

  • Witnessed police persecution of our indigenous brothers daily while walking to usyd in early 2000's. Cops would sit in their cars, parked right on basketball courts and just watch and goad the kids.
My dad had a lot to do with corrupt cops in the king's Cross area in early 90's. Had cone from the UK and couldn't believe the racket they had set up…… You don't wine and dine us whenever we want your on your own.

  • Ironic that some people who want to abolish the police consider speech violence and want it criminalised.

    • Much like in the US, it's the people shouting "ACAB" and in the same breath want the police to be the only ones who can legally arm themselves.

  • Really? Really someone with IQ>80 would want a state without a police?
I am kind of ok build, would be able to beat more than ~80-90% of the population, but jesus - no way to get rid of police.

  • On a lateral note,we're currently enjoying a great Police related drama series on Netflix called "Mindhunter".It's about the beginnings of a branch of the FBI that studied psychological profiling of serial killers and formed a behavioural science unit.Authentic in every way and has all the classic 70's U.S.cars to gawk at.Aussie actress Anna Torv is exceptional.

  • If anyone with an IQ>80 believes that this is some kind of an anarchist manifesto (presumably on the basis of reading the title) really should spend more time in a bookshop. Or at school. And off YouTube & 4Chan.

  • The end of policing?

We’ll just have to rely on the goodwill and commonsense of people.

Oh wait, that’s why we need police…
