[Unobtainable Deal] Free - ARK: Survival Evolved @ Epic Games

Moved to Forum: Original Link

The worst kept secret from Epic is out. As usual, available from 1am AEST.

OP from Deallabs has proof.

Proof from Deallabs

Mod: Based on this image floating around that has been correct 3 of 3 times, the deal appears to have enough likelyhood to eventuate.

Mod 2: The deal did not eventuate, the free game is now Overcooked. Moved to forums as unobtainable.

      dealbot no care

    • +6

The OP that posted this has proved the last three games before they were officially released by Epic. Further, this post mentions that the Deallabs moderation team have ok’d his source but he hasn’t included it in his link.

Happy for this to be removed.

        • The game developers are paid by Epic. They aren't losing money. Buyers in next few days would be eligible for a refund.

          • +2

@ozbargainer88: Not if they buy the game elsewhere. Plus, other websites lose the sales. Who will now buy Ark from Humble Bundle, Steam, GMG, Gamersgate etc.?
Epic pays them to make the game free for a limited time (base) plus for the number licenses (add-on) given.

            • +19

@Lysander: Do you actually care about the sales or your virtual brownie points? Why do you actually care? In previous posts you were all for letting consumers know about deals in case they spent their money and now you are feeling sorry for the devs. Hypocrite much?

              • -1

@Piranha2004: There needs to be a balance.
If devs lose sales due to unauthorised early reveals and leaks, do you really think they are willing to participate in giveaways in the future? Or epic will have to pay more which might result in fewer games being given away or less "big" games.
It is similar to the situation with the unauthorised key reselling sites - people might think they are great due to them being able to get keys cheap - what they forget is that this is in breach of the licensing terms (and the T&Cs of sites like HB) which means if too many keys are hoarded and resold, devs and publishers are less willing to be included in bundles.
Why do you think that more than before games are rebundled and less big games appear in bundles like HB?
There are many articles and interviews (if you care to google) where the devs have confirmed the above.
If you do not care about that, then that is your prerogative. It is not black and white.
Plus there is a big difference between an official future announcement of a game and an unauthorised illegal leak.

                • @Lysander: All of that means nothing as these 4 games are not made by indie developers or studios. Every single one has either been out for years or has been released by a big name company. The ONLY reason they are doing freebies is to drive sales of DLC, microtransactions or upcoming games. Your argument might have merit if these were smaller devs or studios.

                  • @Piranha2004: The argument is particularly valid. How do they want to drive sales of DLC with Borderlands? They are all included. BL3 is already pretty cheap and over the sales peak.
Just remember this when the next HB comes out and people whinge about the lack of big name games or games from big studios.

                • +1

                  @Lysander:

I don't understand why posting things early presents such a problem to some people.
If people know in advance they can decide not to buy the game so it is actually helpful to know.

This is verbatim you. Pot kettle?

It's sad I knew to expect a comment from you in this thread before I clicked on it.

                  • -1

@Zazer: Do you think there is a difference between official authorised announcements and illegally obtained internal information which in other words was stolen?
Or does that not matter at all?

                    Or in short:

Epic properly reveals it: Posts fine
Epic doesn't reveal it and based on illegal stolen info: Post is not fine.

@Lysander: Worry about millions of people who suffer to find something to eat on a daily basis, not giant capitalist companies who make hundreds of millions of dollars through stupid video games.

        • Lysander, I support you!
Not many people understand this, as they didn't do anything and they didn't lose anything! They are just happy gamers enjoying free games.

        • +2

@Lysander Epic Store's Free Games End Up Selling Better After The Giveaways, Says Tim Sweeney https://www.gamespot.com/articles/epic-stores-free-games-end…

          • @gizmomelb: Keyword is "After".
Plus, if you read the whole article it is not necessarily the game that is given away but other existing and upcoming games by the publisher.
The free games serve as a hook so to speak to draw attention to the dev and publisher and make them known to a wider target audience, or in other words, make them and their games more discoverable (as that is a problem on Steam now).
Replies only by PM as I do unsubscribe to most posts these days.

        • Ahaha this leaks are on purpose. They generate money. As for the devs they bunch of crooks what game has expansion packs before the they come out of early access

        • I have no idea how you got negged. Everything you said is true. Have a +

    • +2

      Here we go again 🍿

    • +7

Lysander, your stance seems to have changed since the Christmas period when Epic were only publishing clues as to what the next free games might be.

You were quite happy to post such deals both early and without proof then.

    • +12

      cool story

    • +11

Literally not one single person cares what you have to say.

    • +9

Mate you dont have to do all the game deals. Let others have a go too.

      • +1

That's not the point. Another guy (Epixx)posted both Borderlands and Ark based on the same image and it was taken down. Do you think it is fair his was taken down and this is not, based on the same image?

        • Did you actually read the mod message? Its 3 from 3 so far. Back then it was speculation at best. Jog on mate.

          • +3

@Piranha2004: Back then it was 2 from 2. 100%. Just like now.

            • +2

@Lysander: Yes correct it was. My bad on that. Either way, mods have allowed this but not the previous ones. Go have a whinge to them privately instead.

        • Do you think it is fair his was taken down and this is not, based on the same image?

Sounds like you're just miffed here..

Who cares? Report to the mods and higher ups in OzB if you fear for the site getting sued.
Otherwise, no point getting into a war of words in here with randoms.

      • -1

I wish they'd all just wait until it's actually available tbh.

This process of open deal, save reminder, wait, open reminder, get deal is an unnecessary pita just because people want to race to post early.

    • +7

Why is it only you complaining?

Because you're the only one feeling like they lost something (ability to post this deal).

      Just stop

      • -1

In case you have not noticed, there are 5 reports. Let me know how one person can report 5 times.

    • +8

Let's be real. You just wanted the fake internet points and dealbot took it for the second time in a row.

      • +2

Yes, let us be real. If I cared about that I would hardly be posting deals that are for niche indie games where at best they can get 10 votes, don't you think? Then I would ONLY post big freebies.

        • +1

It is more suitable to take your reasonings with the mods given the negative responses so far. Good luck son.

P.S. keep up the good work.

    • +8

Holy shit, you know someone that's a Forum moderator? That's the dream man

  • +5

here we go again. why so salty?

    • Some would even say Epic

  • +8

I hope it's not true. Crap game

    • +3

Aye I'm with you on this one

  • +7

I was just speaking to the CEO of Epic Games and he personally confirmed this leak to be true.

    • Lysander downvoted you boi

    • no i didnt

    • +4

Weird, I was just talking to Jim Screemey about next weeks Epic free game and he told me to contact the mod team for the Ark Survival forums.

Apparently one, and only one of the Ark Survival forum's mods has the authority to leak information about upcoming Epic free games to three people, dealbot, Lysander and the next person to contact that mod.

So I don't know who you were talking to, but it definitely wasn't Jim Screemey.

  • +3

    Love your work dealbot.

All over the big Epic deals.

  • +24

Spoke to Gabe. Half Life 3 free next week. Exclusive to Epic

    • +3

      \o/

    • +13

Do you have a Source to counter such a strike in the leak department?

      • +3

        GO find it yourself

    • totally trolling

  • +2

Someday gonna buy me a gaming pc to play all these free games.

    • You could build one to play ark rather cheap

  • At the moment you can get Borderlands 2 from there for free (until 5th of June).

    • +1

Because it is not out yet. I can give you the correct link but it is not live yet so really not of any use.

      • +2

Thanks, I edited my post (probably before you were able to post yours) once I noticed it's in 3 days.

        I'm looking forward to it.

  • +10

Just wanted to say I appreciate you Lysandar (and dealbot or anyone else) posting the epic games deals regularly each week, often at ungodly hours of the morning. The true mvp's.

  • +4

Sick I’m just adding them to my liberary in hopes of one day playing them

    • Ditto. So many games - lotto numbers just won't come in so I can retire early.

  • holy heck, this will cause nothing but a further clusterfunk on the servers, prepare for boxbox invasion, again.

  • played ark heaps on my phone, loved it, such a good port, can't believe it's so playable on the phone, managed to tame high end dinos and clear high end dungeons on my own (single player)

    • +1

it's on phone? that sounds awful!

      • i thought so too, but it was very playable, solo tamed everything TRex, Giga, Moza, Quetzal, completed all dungeons including the ice cave

i still log on occasionally to visit my babies

  • +5

Bought this for $30 on steam 3 years ago and never played it

    • +2

Dunno why you were downvoted. I fixed that.

I did same, though did play it a little. One of the few game I've ever paid for. It was beta or whatever - graphics were terrible (maybe my pc's fault I guess).
I was told it would be more expensive later. I need better friends.

  • +4

The new Total War game will also be free for 24hrs on Epic on Aug 13th.

    https://www.totalwar.com/blog/a-total-war-saga-troy-on-epic-…

    • Cheers for that. Calendar reminder will be set accordingly.

  • damn. I paid like 40 or 70 dollars for it, and never played. now it's free :(

    • +6

      40 or 70 lol

      • -1

        40usd = 70aud

  • New to this guys - no explanation really?
when I click on the link there's a borderlands free download?

    • It is not active yet.

  • It's so weird, epic studios isn't into making games last time I heard rather building engines for developers.

Imagine Ubisoft, naughty dog, konami and the entire industry just building engines and selling it to the public.

    Such a fragmented market.

  • +7

I play Ark-Survival Evolved with my 8 year old daughter. Set up a private server and we have an entire world to explore. We get to tame Dinsoaurs and ride/fly them, make bases together and go on dungeon crawls together. She loves it and I luv playing it with her. Great way to bond together and don't need an incredibly hi end PC to play.

  • +5

    Lol it is Overcooked.

    • Yep classic.

  • Ok it isn't Ark - its some Chef Game "overcooked"

damn was going to install and play with my 9 year old daughter who has huge interest in it…. tough luck

    • +2

Try Overcooked with her - she might just like it.

    • Overcooked is one of our favourite couch co-op/chaos inducing games. When we're playing, we're afraid the neighbours might start to complain because of all the yelling and shrieking and laughing that ensues.

An update is on the Ark community forums: https://survivetheark.com/index.php?/articles.html/a-message…

Given the situation in the US, and the rest of the world right now, we will be rescheduling the ARK in-game celebration until Thursday, June 11. We understand that our community has much anticipated the ARK in-game party and the launch of Crystal Isles, and we're looking forward to sharing all we have prepared for you next week. We felt it would be inappropriate to celebrate milestones during the present time as there are bigger things afoot, and that outweighs any plans we otherwise had. We believe now is the time to be respectful and hear the voices of others.

  • +2

For anyone interested, the leak was correct as a Facebook video on the Epic Games page has been uncovered.

  • It's active now. Don't forget to scroll down and get all of the free add-ons.

  • So many clicks to redeem a game I'll never play
