Thank you Epic! Not to sound like a typical tightarse Aussie but do you guys think Epic will continue to pay for all our future DLCs as well for this game? Not meaning to overdo this as they've been generous enough to pay for the next Amazon DLC, but perhaps they'll just continue on being Epic…

Troy was a long time ago. You can't change the outcome of the war now.

    TROIA?

  • When you get the no free games for 24 hours error on this one.

    • If you just want to claim it, use the Epic website instead of the store.

It will add it to your account so you don't miss out getting it free.

I did it on mobile but should work on desktop website as well.

  • Why does release date on steam say 2021?

    • +2

I'm guessing that Epic paid for a one-year exclusive deal. They've done it a few times before. I see it as a year of patches and fixing the buggy launch and then the playable version will be available on Steam.

  • I don't play Total War games and wasn't even aware of this one.

    Got it anyway.

    • Been playing it since yesterday. I normally have little patience with learning strategy games but this is one I have been enjoying thoroughly.

      • This is my all time favourite series, been playing since Medieval 1. Normally the saga games aren't as good as normal total war titles, but seeing as how we havent had much historical titles recently (just Three Kingdoms and now Troy), most fans are eager for it.

  • Thanks OP!

    THANK YOU FOR BUYING
    A TOTAL WAR SAGA: TROY

Me: I'll never download and play this game but what the hell lol

    • I think the point is to make you feel attached to EGS. Whether you play it or not is irrelevant. If they can convince anyone with sunk cost fallacy, then it’s mission accomplished. Even if you never pay a cent, it can still affect you.

      • The $0 sunk cost? Where's the fallacy?

        • +2

Some things are worth more than money. Time for instance. Spend lots of time doing a thing, you become invested. Regardless on whether money has been sunk into it. Sunk cost fallacy applies more things than just money. The time and motivation to even click the Get button to claim the game applies. Especially if you even wanted or desired (no matter if you actually played it) a single free game out of the several dozen paid for by Epic. It's naive to think Epic hasn't tried recruiting psychologist or at least understanding psychology when undertaking this multi-million dollar initiative. Hope this clarifies what I said.

          • @Valowick: Association through marketing I'd agree with, or making the platform easily accessible with free games, but there's not much sunk cost we are talking about here.

Only a naive psychologist would conclude that giving away free games with 2 clicks of a button is enough to recoup marketing expenses through some form of 'sunk cost fallacy'.

Where sunk cost fallacies have the potential to be influential is where you pay thousands for the gym membership then make yourself go even if sick, or actually buy some games on the platform then make yourself play as you've invested money, or try to complete a game you hate because you've poured hours into it to get so far.

This here is just a normal marketing method - giving free stuff away. You get that everywhere you go, not really some fancy pancy 'sunk cost fallacy' at work…

  • I'm just going to select a hero that can constantly kick. That way I can keep yelling "Madness, no… THIS IS SPARTA!!!" in voice mic.

Another game in the collectiom which I might never play. But hey, free is free.

  • No free game for me.

"Your account is unable to download any more free games at this time, please wait 24 hours before trying to redeem a free game again"

That's what I get for procrastinating and creating an account in the last minute I guess?

I don't know how to link comments so I've copy/pasted.

Youtube Reviews show it's a crap game. But it's free and it's Total War.

Not gonna spend a cent on Epic Games Store BUT i will download the game cause it's free.

  • The upvotes on this post are the highest I've seen on Ozb, yet from the comments, it appears that the game is pretty crap lol.

  • I missed out …

I don't know how to make this OzB reminder thing work, it didn't work and I forgot.

I wish these deals would be posted on the day.
