Kogan Starter Sim with 40GB of Data for $4.90 Is No Longer Available. Does Anyone Know of Other Good Deals at The Moment?

I am using cheap starter sims card to run my home internet and not joining NBN.
Any good suggestions will be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Catch Connect? Same price and same amount of data - $4.90 and 40GB for 30 days.

Just wondering, what is your setup - what modem do you use for the sim cards?

      And don't forget cashback :)

I just used an old 4g mobile phone and hotspot it. My old Microsoft Lumia phone has got a good hotspot range and the reception is good too.

      • Thank for the tip. Will get my old Microsoft Lumia 640 out to test this theory and put it to use instead of my Huawei Y6 Elite for this purpose.

        What model is yours?

Mine is the Lumia 640. Works like a charm.

          • @he88388: Cheers. Same as mine then, still like new and works well like you say.

Only does not display the Telstra 24/7 mobile App as well as the Android version, but can't have it all lol.

    • Yes I ditched my NBN and have been using 4G Catch Connect SIMs hooked up to my wireless router.

Setup is ASUS RT-AC68U + USB connection into Optus Huawei E5573 with SIM inside it.

With $3.50 cashback on Catch Connect SIMs, it's $1.40 for 40GB to use within 30 days.

With some of the recent special cashback deals it's full cashback + extra.

      Super cheap internet, no problems.

The only "catch" is you have to wait to receive the voucher/SIM and it says it has to be activated in 30 days.

On the 90 day plan, my debit card also suspiciously reappeared for direct debit after an online chat rep said he removed it (I had trouble logging in since I forgot the email address I used…). If logging in works fine, might be worth checking direct debit just before the deadline.

    • Only limit you get with Catch Connect is there is a Max 5 active Sims/services at once and unlike Kogan they remain active for longer than two months from my recent experience. I have currently hit my limit lol.

Anyone know how long services stay active after credit expires?

Can you call them maybe in order to cancel oldest services ( have done this with Telstra in the past )?

From past experience, it only pauses for a short period.

  • 3 months worth? https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/kogan-mobile-prepaid-voucher-co…

(then keep an eye out for when the $4.90 comes back, like it always doe)

    • Just note the 90 day plan is port only again. So might need to pop into a Telstra store for a $2 SIM (sometimes given free) to hurry things along.

I think the Catch 90 day plan is better since the data is 60 GB rather than 3 X 20 GB (except Kogan doesn't need a waiting period if you have spare SIMs). If data was unlimited but throttled it wouldn't be so frustrating.

That would drive any normal person NUTS!
You are wasting so much time chasing the next deal.
Havent you heard the saying "Time is money"
In other words what you are doing is false economy…BIG TIME!

Just get a good NBN deal or go with a good 4G Home broadband deal

    OMG Talk about lost direction!

  • I'm thinking that because the Queens Birthday is coming up that we might see some unusual offers soon.

It's available again. Expiry date is 31/12/2020 midnight.

    • Yeah it's back. I was logged into my Kogan account and looking around and saw someone buy the plan.

Sadly I had to buy the 3 month plan yesterday, but I guess that means less fidgeting around with the sim cards. Ported within 10 minutes yesterday.

I'm thinking about buying extra vouchers and leaving it on standby much earlier, e.g. a month earlier than I need.

      • Thank goodness it's back. I got 6 when I saw it came back on sale. Then I saw Kogan had reduced it to 99c so I got another 3 as the expiry is July 30. But catch connect has withdrew their $4.90 Sim recently. let's hope Kogan continues offering this.

  • anyone have know of any similar deals to the catch connect deal thats no longer valid? need a telco to switch to from kogan now that my 3 months is ending :(

You need to be away for 31 days before return as a new customer.

Vodafone 35 days plan may be a good choice now.

  • Kogan starter packs are now only 20gb, for $2.90

As opposed to the 40gb, for $4.90
