Heat Pump Dryers - Haier?

I started researching Heat Pump dryers as our current dryer is on the blink.

I found this heap pump dryer from Fisher & Paykel DH8060P1 https://www.fisherpaykel.com/nz/laundry/dryers/dryer/8-kg-he…

But then i found there's a very similar product (nearly identical) from Haier - https://www.haier.com.au/products/laundry/dryers/?productuid…

Haier…. I hadn't heard of this brand until I started researching Heat Pump dryers as our current dryer is on the blink. A quick google shows that Haier now owns F&P! So that explains the identical product. Althought the two models look similar, one has 16 'modes' the other 13. But could I pretty comfortably assume the important bits like the motor etc are all identical? One says 7 star energy rating the other 8…. hmmm.

So, assuming both units are identical internally, would I be simply better off grabbing the cheaper Haier?

Anyone have experience with Haier products - any quality issues to speak of?

  • Had a Haier washing machine. Needed a technician twice in the first 2 years (covered under warranty but had to wait several days which made the missus angry). Moved house shortly after and gave it away as didn't want the hassles any more. We used to know many people with F&P appliances and every one of them had problems with them. I wouldn't buy either.

    • Interesting feedback, thanks.

If I was going a cheaper brand appliance- i.e. Haier, I'd take a hard look at Beko.

Generally I would buy Bosch Series 6, Miele or Asko for my appliance.

However Beko has a 5 year warranty and generally cheap too. Any product with a 5 year warranty can't be that bad.

Between Haier & F&P, depending on the savings, I'd probably lean towards Haier.

  • To counter suchislife. Our 14 year old and trouble free FP washing machine died 10 days ago. Replaced with another FP.

BTW. Dryers are so basic there are bugger all to go wrong with them.

    • Yeah I mean one persons experience on brand quality is never the whole story. I guess having never heard of Haier I was skeptical.

What about these new fandangle heat pumpers? Sounds more complex!!

Yeah Fisher & Paykel have sold millions of appliances over the years so the odds are that 1 of them would last 14 years…😜. Seriously though, JB1's recommendation of Beko might be worth considering. Here's one that seems pretty good value: Model BDP700W. Appliances Online have it for $789 but on backorder til August. One of my local JB's had one in stock for $899.

Beko staff member here 🙋🏻‍♂️Feel free to fire away any questions you may have.

          • @Capo93: How's the quality of the products so far?

I've seen your products in store, I generally would pay a little more for 'branded' names products, but with a 5 year warranty, I'm thinking I should take a punt and save some cash next time I need to replace my washing machine.

@JimB: I think for their price the quality is good, on par with the likes of LG & Electrolux.

Beko's struggle has always been the name, people just don't know it. Beko is owned by a company called Arçelik which owns other well known names like Grundig, Blomberg and now even Singer. In places like the UK Beko is one of the well known brands.

I guess too the benefit is if you have any problems you can just come to me as I'm part of the technical services team.

'Dryers are so basic there are bugger all to go wrong with them.'

True for a cheap vented dryer. Not true for a heap pump dryer.

It's like comparing a hair dryer to an air conditioner.

I looked at a dryer and considered a heat pump dryer. Eventually settled on a Miele Condenser dryer for the following reasons:
      - Still collects water
      - It was $500 brand new on clearance.
      - Faster drying than heat pump
      - It was $500 brand new on clearance.
      - Energy savings wasn't a priority as we generally line dry and only use the dryer to dry the last 10% of the dampness. Less than once a month would we throw in clothes straight from the washing machine.
      - It was $500 brand new on clearance.
