Did you actually want to buy one, or are you just shooting down this deal like you try and shoot down everything?

For people are looking for this screen to come on sale (I know I was looking for quite some time), this is really good information and would be used. For people who don't care and don't want to call up to verify the deal, get over it.

          I -ve voted you

    • +6

I ordered one at the price yesterday. It's legit.

    • JV 10 minutes time out please

    • JV - Looks like it was a VERY strong rumour….

      Enough PROOF for you now??

  • Contact them on dell chat and ask. Was as easy as that for me. Shame I was actually interested in a deal on the 2711…

    • +1

Before I found the Dell Chat wouldn't budge on the U2311 price but the telephone staff would…just something to keep in mind if one or the other knock you back…

    • +4

Isn't a sale or a catalogue also promotional?

      Are these allowed????

  • +11

It was offered (and accepted happily) at this price for a lot of Whirlpool users, including me. And I didn't even ask about this monitor.

You shouldn't have to phone them, just start a dell chat and ask.

People will stop posting deals if people regularly try to shoot down great deals like this one. Most people will be willing to interact with another human to get this deal.

  • New version soon, I guess dell is dumping them now.

    • Oh well, if I can get this model for $500 less I'll take it.

  • +2

If you can get a quality 32" LED TV for under $500 why is a 30" monitor a good deal at more than twice that price?? Or am I missing something….

    • +1

The dell has a much higher resolution than your standard TV, plus other features that prove to be more beneficial to users who need those requirements.

    • There always has to be one…lol :)

Don't forget it's IPS and has better colour reproduction….

WTF? What's to stop someone buying a true 1080p hd tv and using their computers HDMI output?

I agree with cornucopia, can someone 'Please explain'

    Above, thanks guys :)

    • +4

      That's easy. A monitor has;

      -Lower response (avg 2ms)
      -Higher res(tihnk like 2500 x XXXX instead of 1920 X 1080)
      -DVI/Display ports
-Highly configurable with the right software (colour, etc)
-Usually higher DPI (DOTS PER INCH, better for reading text on screen)
      -Better Refresh rate

Resolution is the short answer, I believe. Basically you can connect a PC / Notebook to a sub $500 full HD 1080 TV and it will play movies and games perfectly well, however, even with "true HD" the 1080 resolution will mean that all icons, and text will be large and blocky - and not as sharp as on the monitor you're probably using. I'm not a technical guy but I was looking into buying a 32" TV to use as a monitor about a year or so ago, when 32" full HD TVs were $1000 to $1500, and the conclusion that I made was that due to the resolution a 32" TV would not be suitable to use a PC for work purposes. The answer was to wait for these superior resolution monitors to come down in price. Personally $1100 is still a little rich for me, and I think I'll pass until the 32" TVs for sub $500 offer the same super resolution as these Dells do.

By the way, do we know what the resolution of the Dell is?

    • 2560x1600 for the 30"

    • 2560x1600 is the res. As for TVs I'm sceptical of the resolution increasing soon, especially for a size that small. Monitors are made for sitting close to and reading clearly, TVs are made to sit well away from (or at least a comfortable distance away from) with a 'decent' picture. For that size TV 1080p is a pretty high res, considering 1024x768 plasmas at 40" are still sold.

If you need a good monitor for work, get a good monitor - unless you really need the TVs features. Buying a TV to use as a monitor will always be a compromise, at least for a long time yet.

      • Good to know. I have a preference for TVs as it seems like a neater solution to me (if the resolution is right that is). TVs have built in TV receivers which would be nice, they have nice remote controls, and most importantly for me they have built in quality speakers. I've been told that the speakers in monitors are always rubbish - and essentially pointless if they're unpleasent to listen to. That being said, i've been very happy with my 24" LCD so I should imagine I'll be plenty happy with a 30" once they come down in price again. Will they, do they, have 32" monitors with this resolution, or 30" is the top?

        • Off the top of my head 30" is about as large as you will get and even then it's a pretty niche market so your choices aren't huge compared to say 24" or likely even 27".

      • Yeah I agree that there likely won't be any advancements in resolution for mainstream sets any time soon. Sure, larger TV's are getting cheaper but the assumption is you're sitting a distance away from it that will likely make the resolution a non issue. When they finally do begin to bump the specs it'll be on the larger models since they have a lot more to gain from it.

Many argue that even 1080p is overkill on a TV below 40" so I can't see manufacturers jumping to put 2560x1600 or higher panels into 32" displays when 99% of the market will be using them from several meters away in an arm chair.

Personal use aside, work related tasks that stand to gain the most from a display like this likely involve running software applications that cost over $1000 such as design or development tools.

        • I don't think there's anypoint increasing res of tv's now anyway, as HDTV and Bluray only support 1080p, don't they? So it would take a new mainstream technology to make it worthwhile for TV makers to up the res.

      IPS =)

  • +2

Actually one fo the main reasons is the fact its IPS and huge - anybody into photography wants one of these ;)

Anywho, just bought mine - thanks GreatWhiteHunter !!

Dell guy said there is still a few left

    • +3

Exactly, 2 billion colours vs. 16 million for a std. lcd screen, google people google.

  • I can also confirm this deal exists, just bought one over the phone at $1099 including GST and delivery to Victoria

  • I just called dell and the sales rep had no idea what I was on about and asked for me to send a web link via email and also has to confirm with her manager.

    • What department? Dell has like 11564 call centers.. just do the live chat on their website, if you're worried about security they will happily call you.

      • Dell called me back and I bought one. Fingers crossed it's got a good panel in it.

I hate you for posting this! :-)

Something I do not need but absolutely want!

My 6.5 years old Ultrasharp 2405 still working rock solid and free from defect.

    • haha, i'm the same, still have my dell 2405, but interested in upgrading at this price though.

    • Me too! Love it

  • If only this offer came around after the HSC (in 2 month's time) or Christmas, I'd be all over it if it was! Perfect to join my new computer build for the new year.
Dell 30" + Dell 27" to Asus 22" lol. Would be awesome to play BF3 on the 30" watch a movie on the 27" and have a browswer/chat open on the 22"… oh well I digress.

  • I just went to Dell Chat and got the deal, too easy. Now just got to work out what to do with the U2711 I got 3 months ago :|

  • Hmmm, some assistance. I currently have dual screen, U2410 + 2407.

    Should I sell and grab 1 3011?

I was always looking at buying another 2410 2nd hand…

    • Depends on your usage. If you're doing things like photo editing.. one large screen is a godsend. If you're doing more office type stuff, I think have dual screen (i.e. one application on each screen maximised) is nicer.

I currently have a 27 inch and 19 (+ a 40 inch tv) hooked up to my tv. I thought I could use the 19-er when doing photoshop on 27 inch.. but reality is, I almost never user the 19 now. TV is hooked up just for watching videos.

You don't really need a second monitor with a 30 incher. All you need to do is put your programs side by side. Its that big. Two Firefox/Chrome/Opera/IE side by side is a bliss on this monitor :)

  • yay just took the plunge and invested, now gonna need a new rig to keep up

  • -2

The only thing I can think of that's 30" long…

    keeps whistling

    • gasp! You promised last night you wouldn't tell anyone!

      • I was actually thinking two footlongs and a six inch from subway

Seriously though, what do you guys do that justifies a monitor like this?

        • +4

I like to play the biggest game of minesweeper known to man.

  • +2

Wow, judging from the response there are sure lots of loaded OzBargainers. I for one can't really justify or afford a $1000 monitor even if it's on offer.

  • +1

Damn you ozbargain! Now I have remove one of the dell 24" monitors and slide the dell 27" across to make room for the 30". What do I do with the spare 24" monitor now? :P
Thanks for the bargain, great price for a great monitor.

  • Something tells me my new baby isn't going to stop me being owned in BF3 :(

Use the excuse that you're getting frame skips or something because of the sheer gpu power required to properly run this thing.
