Oxford Heated Motorcycle Grips (Hot Grips) $110 Delivered @ YamahaWorld (via eBay or Amazon)

90

I was looking at a new pair of gloves for winter to stop my hands from going numb, but found these to be a much better value option. Every other local retailer I've looked at is selling these at $150, even Amazon themselves are selling at $140, so I thought $110 was a decent deal. Haven't installed mine yet, but every tutorial says it's a pretty simple process to do yourself and it comes with everything you need (though you might need some extra tools to get grips off and on, depending on the bike). The brand and product are also very highly regarded.

These are the sports variety, but other models are available. I believe the heat output is the same for all of them, but the size, length and style of grips vary.

Price also goes down with the more you buy (up to 3), so you can save another few bucks if you can get a few biking mates on board.

Also available on Amazon if you have a preference (note that I bought through Amazon and got no cashback): https://www.amazon.com.au/Oxford-OF692Z-Heaterz-Premium-Hand…

Description from the ebay listing:
"Oxford HotGrips are the ORIGINAL and the BEST. This latest PREMIUM range is the result of over 30 years of research and development by British engineers and motorcyclists. The grips have ergonomically engineered surface structures to optimise riding performance. Soft, ultra-grippy diamond tread is inspired by race grips for comfort and feedback.

Oxford Premium Sports Hotgrips give high levels of grips and feedback. Designed for and inspired by sports riders.
The grip length can be trimmed if required and has open ends so that bar end weights can be fitted.
Grips are 123mm as standard but can be cleanly cut to 114mm.
Sealed for life double bonded rainproof switch that draws under 4A.
The intelligent heat controller uses a sealed-for-life welded case construction for long-term durability and weather-proofing.
5 heat settings give the perfect operating temperature with LED lights to indicate the level.
The Battery Saving Mode protects against flat batteries. If you forget to turn the switch off, it will do it for you!

New switch technology means that, if the engine is switched off, the grips will automatically turn off until enough power is available. This eliminates the need for the user to buy and fit relays.

Thanks to their unique expandable design and fool-proof wiring loom, HotGrips are extremely easy to fit. Connection to the motorcycle could not be simpler: Connect the 2 ring connectors to the battery. No need to wire the positive to a live ignition feed.

Included as part of the pack:

2 x HotGrips
1 x Intelligent heat controller
1 x Metal bracket and fittings for mounting the heat controller
1 x Wiring loom, cable ties and grip glue
1 x Instruction booklet and warranty form"

  • Have these. Can confirm they are excellent.

However (unless they have changed) they do not automatically switch off with the bike (well not immediately anyway) so the other week I used them and forgot to turn them off for maybe 30-60 seconds before I realised and when I went to start my bike that afternoon the battery was dead dead. Admittedly I knew the battery was on its way out so it was in poor health but be mindful - make sure you turn them off when you get to your destination!!

I've installed these using the touring style grips on my LAMs cruiser. They do turn off automatically when motion isn't sensed. Warming them up and chatting with friends sometimes made them turn off (ignition on, not engine).

      For everyone considering these:
They get quite hot around 50% and I couldn't imagine using them at higher temperature. Keep in mind these will warm only the inside of your hand. My gripe after using them was that because of the heating type it often felt worse as the outside of my grip was still cold which was then exaggerated due to the warmth on the inside. Using two layers of gloves with a thermal layer underneath is how i'll be using my next bike.

Additionally the end of the grips are open so i opted to buy some cheap bar ends with a mushroom type fitting (expand as you tighten the nut) to seal them from my local.

Posting because my first pair were a dud that kept blowing the fuse. Couldn't find a break in the line or anything pinched with a multi-meter so it was quite confusing. The guys at Yamaha were extremely helpful and sent a new pair after i sent through my testing. Guy I dealt with was Jon.

Otherwise, enjoy. I'm in QLD and do some highway k's for work which is why I considered them to begin with.

They do turn off automatically when motion isn't sensed. Warming them up and chatting with friends sometimes made them turn off (ignition on, not engine).

They turn of by detecting the battery voltage - lower than maybe 13.4V and that determines that the battery isn't being charged (engine not running), and cuts them off.

However, if you have a lithium battery which sits at a slightly higher voltage, they won't switch off. That will drain you battery.

        • Oh, cool to know.
I thought I read about the motion detection in the manual but I can't find anything to back that up now, and your explanation makes more sense anyway.cheers.

Always worth wiring these in with a relay connected to ignition, as the controllers are known to malfunction and not cut out when they are meant to.

  • Got a Gixxer 600 and was actually thinking of buying these last night. Just gotta see if they work with MotionPro Throttle though

  • had this on mine for a couple of years, makes a huge difference and definitely worth the money

this is the normal price though

all over ebay for this price and amazon

    Heated grips???

Next thing you'll be buying a leather onesie with built-in unicorn helmet & pink hoof shoes for your ride.

  • I installed these myself on my bike about a month ago. They work well and do switch off automatically after 3 minutes I believe. They are a bit thicker than OEM grips so it takes a bit of getting used to. Well worth it for those who ride on cold mornings or long rides.

Every bike I have had (7) for the last 10 years I have fitted these. They are really the best $100 you can spend on your bike.

I also wire these up via a relay as I have had battery drain from the heated grips

  • Almost got these but got Oxford Hot Hands. They are attached around the standard grips via Velcro fastening. Wanted something to take off in summer and swap between bikes. Also they fit into the handlebar covers. Only 1 setting and no auto off but really hot and easy install. About 10 minutes. Just another option if you don't want to cut your grips.

  • I have been using the Oxford heated grips for 21 years now. The first set was the older generation which can be wired to the ignition so they switch off when the bike is off. They lasted 15 years. Then I updated to this set with multiple heat levels, auto switch off, and where the grip diameter is thinner and the rubber feels nicer, but only lasted 3 years of short commuting use only. I have since replaced it again with the same set because buying the grip component on its own is only marginally cheaper with no warranty over the whole system. Hopefully this set's rubber will last longer.
