I don't like Kogan, but this looks really good

  • +13

Probably not the ideal res for that size?

    • +1

      Ideal for traffic management

    • +1

Actually it's the ideal res because it's an ultrawide monitor. 30" ultrawide has exact same height as standard 16:9 24" so 1080p is ideal.

      • -5

No, the ideal res is 1440p. You have extra screen space so you need more pixels to increase the PPI.

I'd only get a 1080p ultrawide if I really couldn't spend the extra cash for a 1440p model and it was only used for basic stuff. This is one of the reasons it's so cheap.

        • +2

No, I'm talking about this particular monitor. 1080p is ideal for it. Compare to a standard 24", you have extra horizontal screen space, not vertical.

          30" 21:9 @ 1080p and 24" 16:9 @ 1080p yield the same ~92 PPI
          34" 21:9 @ 1440p and 27" 16:9 @ 1440p yield the same ~110 PPI

If you go 1440p on a 30" ultrawide, it's like asking for 1440p on a 24", text will be too small for most user.
If you want 1440p, you should look at a minimum 27" for standard 16:9, or 34" for ultrawide 21:9

        • +3

No, 1080p is certainly enough for 30" ultrawide. You're not taking into account of difference in aspect ratio.

          • @MagicMushroom: Makes sense. I guess that's why 32 and 34 are usually 1440p, and are more comparable to a dual monitor setup.

  • +3

Perfectly under the $300 tax deduction threshold.

    • Not after adding the delivery if you are not Kogan first member

      • Why would anyone include a claim for delivery charges if it meant going over the $300 threshold? You simply claim for the monitor and not the delivery charge.

        • You can also claim $300 for a moniter >$300

Problem is you cant claim anything else.

          • @SnoozeAndLose: Exactly, so what does the delivery charge have to do with it?

            • @KangaDrew: So what does $300 come into play then. You don't need any prove for anything below $300 anyway. You don't claim this you can claim others

        • @SnoozeAndLose @KangaDrew - I have one question, if I buy $400 or $600 monitor, can I claim $300? or the price should be below $300 always?

  • Nearly no bezels to! It does look pretty amazing for $299. If only it also had the USB power out supply so it could charge your laptop. Plus no USB ports is annoying as you can't plus your headset and webcam in to it.

    • Buy a powered USB hub?

    • +1

Be careful with the no bezel thing. The image there is heavily photoshopped. Many other monitor advertising images also only show the housing frame border (usually 2-3mm) but the actual panel itself has 5-10mm black border in it)

  • +3

    Kogan sucks

  • +1

Would this size be wide enough to replace two 24" monitors side by side for productivity/work purposes?
I know ideally 34" is better but I am wondering whether this size is good enough.
It's a toss up for me between two 24" monitors or a wide screen monitor.

Would anyone share their experience of using a wide screen monitor to take advantage of split screen?

    • +1

It depends what you are after because screen real estate comes with 2 variables: no of pixels and diagonal size.

2x24" monitor setup will give the following values
      Aspect ratio: 32:9
      No of pixels: 3840x1920
      Diagonal size: 43.5"

You then need to work out which aspect you would want to compromise on because a 34" may not be better due to a reduction in diagonal size meaning that things will look smaller.

For no compromise, you can get this Acer which is more equivalent to 2x27" FHD in terms of physical size. https://www.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/model/UM.SE1AA.P01

      • +1

        3840*1080

        • Apologies for the error.

    • +1

2560px is a little low to screen split for work. I used 27" 2560 x 1440 for almost 5 years and really can't split screen to do anything meaningful beside watching youtube on 1 side and browsing web on the other side. You should look at 2 x 24 or a 34" ultrawide for productivity.

      • I have a 34" ultrawide (Kogan) and replaced my 2x 24" with it and am very happy with it. Freed up a heap of desk space and looks nicer, better for full screen programs like Davinci Resolve/Premiere Pro where the width makes a difference.

Colours aren't perfect, but I'm not grading colour, so fine for general usage.

        • I actually use a 34" ultrawide (X34P) myself. It's very nice for both gaming and working. But, the ultrawide resolution does make it very problematic when you need to do screen-sharing a lot, apps like Skype for Biz or Teams are buggy or just straight up not working, others work but kinda hard for the other person to see content. Also it's not possible to just share half of your screen (like when you need to shares multiple windows, and use the other half for reference while talking). So dual monitor setup still has its use.

          • @Kingduytan: Interesting. I'm also looking to get an ultrawide for work instead of dual monitors. Been waiting for a deal on a curved one but I do a lot of screen share and it's got me thinking. I wonder if you're forced to share the application itself and not the entire desktop.

            • @uder: Yeah I have to share the application window manually. It does get very tedious since I usually have to share 3-4 applications, and switching takes time since I have 20-30 apps opened. For major demos with clients I just change resolution to 2560 x 1440, share the entire desktop and use my phone for referencing materials.

              • @Kingduytan: Might keep my old 24inch then. But I guess there goes the space saving!

              • +1

@Kingduytan: I flip my laptop open for that and use it as the "screen" to view, then keep everything else on the UWD - you're right, its a pain for that.

    • I had two 24” before going with an LG 34” ultra wide.

It enables me to have three full pages in front of me eg web page, Word doc, email program etc. Or you have can your browser 2/3 screen and a chat program on the side.

And having moved a few times, the convenience of having one monitor, one cable etc just made life easier.

And the widescreen wallpapers are out there are amazing.

If I had the budget I would’ve got an ultra wide with a higher resolution. But then again, I don’t do any photo or video work so I’m okay with what I’ve got.

      Hope this helps.

  • +6

Pay a little more for the 34" monitor, and the resolution is much better with 3440x1440.

    • +2

Note that the 34" model is a non-curved VA panel, which may be an issue for colour consistancy across the screen as viewing angle changes.

    • but there is no freesync?

    • Hm… Kogan used to sell a curved WQHD 34" ultrawide with freesync 100hz usually on sales for $450-$500. Can't find it anymore. Did they replace it with the monstrous $999 144hz hdr version?

  • Is Kogan brand realible?

    • +17

      Realible, maybe.

Reliable, not so sure about that.

  • Is this one good for gaming?

    • 75hz depending on what game you are playing

    • If you want to game on a tight budget, you should get a good 24" like the AOC 24G2. If you also need more screen real estate for work/study, buy an additional cheap/used 24". This Kogan monitor use VA panel and has low refresh rate, 75hz is not much different compare to 60hz. I used to have a 29" ultrawide LG, the gaming experience is very underwhelming at this size and aspect ratio.

  • for those that dont want a curved monitor - not a gamer - just upgrading a 1920x1080 monitor - is this one any good? and under $300 …

Honestly I would just stay away from Kogan (or any cheap brand). They normally just use cheap panels samsung, LG etc don't want. So they can be decent if you are lucky but if you're not. You'll get problems. I've bought enough TV's/Monitors that it's just best to get at least mid range not only for quality of build but warranty is usually easier too if it's past the manufacture's warranty.

      • well its a replacement for another samsung-syncmaster-2333sw monitor which is 12 yrs old!

        • +3

So wouldn't you like the next one to last just as long?

  • +2

beware those photos are photoshopped, i mean when you get it the quality of build will not as good as those amazing lovely pictures
    and inside components too.
so yeah, i still wont touch kogan branded items

  • Great price for a monitor with its intended features.

  • +1

This is not WQHD curved, should be WFHD.

  • Ah, why the hell not for that price. Ordered one, we'll see how the Kogan roulette treats me. Can't be worse than my current monitor which I've had for 8 years.

  • need advice/help what's better this or 2. 20 inch monitors (exact I think is one is 19.5 other is maybe 20.5 or 21.5)for school work

    • Are the 2 monitors Full HD? if yes then they will be much better for you, you have 3640px (2 x 1920) in horizontal screen estate compare to this 2560px. With 2 monitors you can also game on 1 and video call with your fiend at the same time, or do presentation on 1 screen and watch movie on the other (j/k, you should be looking at your notes) etc. You really have to go up to at least 34" 1440p for ultrawide to be worth it.

  • Is this IPS or TN?

Edit: nevermind, found it. It's VA.

    • what's TN?

      Panel is VA.

      • +1

Twisted Nematic. One of the cheapest panels you can get - crappy viewing angles and colour reproduction, but it has low response times, so it's OK for gaming.

    AOC Q3279VWFD8/75 32 inch 1440p VA LCD Gaming Monitor - $166.95.

      Link?

    • +1

      link please

    • Share the link please

    • Nice try, but it’s another product. Can’t post link as it’s a referral

    • +4

IF you search AOC Q3279VWFD8/75 in ebay, this item comes up.
      https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Dahua-22-5ms-Full-HD-Computer-Mo…

      Totally different product.

I believe the item has been edited. It used to be the AOC monitor because the feedback mentions it but Tech Mall has now edited the listing to a Dahua monitor and all the good feedback is associated with it. Pretty sneaky.

  • a bit off-topic but related… does this or other models/brands can do PIP (Picutre in Picutre) from multiple input source? eg. Side by side (where HDMI1 is on the left, HDMI2 on the right?)

    • +1

I've got the 1440 version and it does PIP, but the controls are a bit fiddly, so you don't want to have to swap it around very often tbh. If this is running similar firmware, its probably 6 'clicks' using 2 different buttons to do it

      • thanks mate, do you have the model number?

  • Just found the following link for an AOC 32inch 1440p https://www.ebay.com.au/p/14031258376

    • +3

Something’s wrong with that listing, when you go to check out it changes to a 22” dahua monitor?

      • -3

        Check again… works for me.

        • +2

But when you add to cart, it changes to Dahua.

        • Buy it then

    • It shows Dahua for me when clicking on "View details". Clicking on "See all 2 brand new listings" also show 2 listing of the Dahua.

  • For those querying whether it can replace a dualie - displayfusion would be your friend.

  • Note that 30" sounds large, but a 30" 21:9 monitor has the same physical screen height as a 16:9 24" monitor.

    Unless you're ok with that, I don't suggest a 21:9 less than 32". 34" is even better as it's equivalent to a 27" 16:9 monitor in height.

  • +1

The panel is listed as an AUO panel, and from AUO's website there is only 1 30 inch 21:9 panel. Claims to support refresh rate of >=144hz. So you might be able to overclock it to 144hz with no issues. Ymmv.

    https://www.auo.com/en-global/application/detail/Monitor_App…

  • is this height adjustable? Seems really tall otherwise! Wouldn't be ergonomic….sore neck?
