TP-Link Kasa Indoor Security Cam KC120 $99 (Was $169.95) + Delivery (Free C&C) @ EB Games

160

I was looking through EB Games electrical products on sale and came across this. I purchased this camera on sale for $99 from Amazon last month as a baby monitor and I think it's great.

-Crystal Clear Video - Sharp and clear, wide-angle 1080p video makes sure you never miss a thing. Manually zoom in to get a closer look to what's going on. Even at night, the camera will detect activity 25 ft. (7.6 meters) away with Night Vision.

-2-Way Audio - Communicate clearly with whoever you see on camera. Whether it’s your kids sneaking a cookie before dinner or your pets laying on the sofa, use 2-way audio to remind them to make better choices.

-Easy Setup - Get the best angle and video from your Kasa Cam with an easy to adjust camera stand. Place it on a flat surface and start monitoring or use the magnetic base to affix it to your fridge.

-Instant Notifications - With motion and sound detection, the Kasa Smart app alerts you of activity that matters and sends notifications straight to your smartphone.

-Watch from Anywhere - Watch live video at any time on your smartphone with the free Kasa Smart app. Even stream live video to any Alexa or Google Assistant* supported display, like a Fire TV or Google Chromecast.

Try and Price beat at Office works (Currently $168) but stock looks pretty limited.

  • Can the camera record to nas?

    • Looks like TP-link has them reasonably locked down. My 5min Google has shown me it doesn't look like TP-link is supported at all in Shinobi, and the Kasa Cams (KCxx) aren't supported in iSpy (but other TP-Link cameras are).

  • It's a great price and I was about to buy this to install along with the TP-Link Tapo C200 cameras bought on another deal but was surprised to find that TP-Link Kasa and Tapo cameras use different mobile apps, so no deal.

    • I wasn't aware of that initially either. I have a bunch of TP-link smart plugs using KASA app which swayed me away from the TAPO I nearly bought.

  • Does anyone know what the KC120 offers over the KC110 ? The KC110 has pan and tilt and it is cheaper. https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/faq/2634/. The only thing I can see is the KC120 supports 5Ghz.

    • Thanks for posting that link. From what I see, the free cloud storage is only available for 2 years but currently, the paid care plans are only available in the US, so with its lack of internal storage this camera will not be much use after 2 years or will have recurring costs if TP-Link Care packages come here by then.

  • +1

I'd be interested in a review from the OP from a baby monitor perspective because everywhere I read, security cameras make terrible baby cameras compared to dedicated baby monitors with a dedicated monitor screen.

    • compared to dedicated baby monitors with a dedicated monitor screen

Here's the ticket. Going the camera route, you only get monitoring while you have the app open - no app, no monitor. If you're looking to have a second device to keep the app open, you might as well get a monitor - no device to keep update for security, monitors usually have a dock or stand, more features (music, lights, etc).

Our only real issue we've had with our monitor has been connectivity, but that is literally connecting from opposite corners of the house (which, funnily enough, is the case for us).

    • We previously had a traditional baby monitor (Oricom SC710) but the night vision was poor and often struggled away from the base. The temperature indicator was handy though. My thought was also to use the camera as a security camera once no longer needed for baby duty.

Agree with previous comment about needing to open the app to be able to actually view it but we make use of the zone feature. I think you can also get alerts for this. If our daughter moves enough in her cot (the zone) it will record the footage and save it for 2 days(unless you buy the subscription). Our daughter has a minor respiratory condition so we will look back at the footage from the night before to see how she is settling herself and the positions she generally sleeps in.

We also use the KASA app in conjuction with a TP-Link smart plug connected to a heater in our daughter's room. We set timers for it to turn on and off through the night. We are in the Adelaide Hills and having some very cold nights at the moment.

  • I have both the KC100 and the KC310S2 and love both, I might get another 2x KC100. All are on 2.4ghz.

I think the KC120 has a magnetic base whereas the KC110 does not and has to be mounted.

    • Looks like KC120 has a 2 day video history as opposed to only 12 hours on the KC100 & KC110.
